Susan gasped, a sound of alarm cutting through the phone's speaker. "Hannah, Hannah, what happened?" she cried, her voice laced with panic.
Silence answered.
Manuel, instantly alert, watched Susan's face crumple with fear. He snatched the phone, leaping from the bed and rushing outside. He hadn't anticipated danger; the villa's security was usually impeccable. Susan hurried after him, and they both scrambled into the car.
"Check if Hannah sent her location," Manuel instructed.
Susanโs hand trembled as she checked her phone. No message. Tears welled as she frantically called again; the phone rang unanswered. "She's not answering! No message," she sobbed.
Manuel remained calmer, using his phone to triangulate Hannah's last known signal tower. Susan, beside herself with worry, felt helpless. Nothing could happen to Hannah. She was pregnant! The thought of possible harm sent a fresh wave of panic through her.
"Manuel, let's go! We have to save her! Hurry!" Susan urged, her anxiety mounting as she watched him work.
"Calm down!" Manuel snapped. "Give me time!"
Susan bit her lip, trusting his actions even though she didn't understand them. She shivered, watching him anxiously.
Meanwhile, Hannah, after attempting to call for help, had been in a car accident on a Kensbury City street. Miguel, swerving to avoid a speeding vehicle, had collided with a guardrail. The impact, though not severe, had sent Hannah's phone skittering under the seat, out of reach.
"Go, go, go, Dad! Hurry!" Hannah yelled, urging her father onward.
Miguel, sensing the danger, slammed the accelerator. Michelle and Lorie were equally terrified. Their speeding vehicle was pursued relentlessly by a black SUV.
"They changed course. Should I intercept?" a voice crackled over a phone in the pursuing car.
"Move," came the curt reply.
"Understood," the driver confirmed, accelerating his pursuit.
Hannah, noticing their pursuers' speed, pleaded, "Faster, Dad!"
The car weaved through the streets, passengers clinging to their seats to avoid being thrown. Miguel's hands were slick with sweat; driving at such speed, through heavy traffic, was beyond his usual comfort level. Hannah knew her father couldn't sustain this for long.
All she could do was buy time. Manuel was her only hope. Even without her location, she trusted he could find her. She just needed to hold on until he arrived.
Hannah fought to remain calm, watching her father's sweat-soaked shirt. The sight of his grey hair brought tears to her eyes. She regretted the risk, the decision to leave. She saw her mother's terrified silence, Lorie's trembling fear, yet no one blamed her in this moment of shared peril.
Tears streamed down Hannah's face. The memory of her parents' death in a similar accident in her previous life flooded back, the image of being shielded by their bodies as they perished. Was history repeating itself? Was she destined to fail, no matter how hard she tried? What was the purpose of her reincarnation?
Gripping the seat, Hannah fought for composure. This time would be different. God had given her a second chance; it wouldn't end the same way. Manuel would find her.
But the pursuing car relentlessly closed the distance. Miguel couldn't hold out much longer.
Then, Hannah saw a modified car, speeding toward them from a crossroad. Collision was inevitable.
"Watch out! Left!" Michelle screamed from the front seat.
Miguel, driving too fast to react, dared not brake. He pressed the accelerator, pushing the car to its limit. The oncoming car showed no signs of slowing; in fact, it accelerated. They would be smashed into the air, leaving them no chance of survival.
Hannah felt hopeless, her heart heavy with despair.
"Bang!"
A deafening explosion ripped through the air, shaking the city. It was a catastrophic pile-up. Hannah saw two cars collide, then three more behind them. One of the wrecked vehicles belonged to Manuel.
In a desperate maneuver, a high-speed car had plowed into the pursuing vehicles, halting the chase. But Manuelโs car was a mangled wreck.
Hannah's distress overwhelmed her. Manuel couldn't be hurt! What would happen to Susan?
Her vision blurred.
Miguel, instinctively braking from the shock, caused a violent collision within their own car. Hannah was thrown, hitting her head and possibly her belly, yet felt nothing. She stumbled from the wreckage, heading towards Manuel's car.
