Chapter 315: Aurora

“Evander?” Dane asked, straightening his back. “Unbelievable,” he added, shaking his head.

I closed my eyes, letting a tear fall. “It happened to be my very own cousin, Dane… my own,” I whispered, my voice trembling.

Dane shifted closer, pulling me into a hug. “Baby… don’t cry,” he soothed. “We will look into this, I promise you.”

I sniffed, nodding. Pulling away, I feigned a smile. “How do you feel now?”

Dane licked his lips, running his thumb across my cheeks to wipe away my tears. “There,” he said. “You should always be happy. Now that everything is resolved, can we enjoy this peace?”

“But Evan…” He placed a finger on my lips, silencing me.

“Shush… babe, leave that for later…” he murmured, leaning in to kiss me.

I smiled into the kiss, feeling a surge of joy—the joy of his recovery. My Dane was getting back on his feet.

He tucked my hair behind my ear and pulled me onto the bed, lifting me onto his lap.

Chapter 315

I opened the bathroom door and peeked out; Dane wasn't in bed. Where was he?

I grabbed a towel and looked around, but the room was empty. I closed my eyes, attempting to send a mind-link message. Grunting, I opened my eyes, sitting on the chair before the mirror.

“Why is he blocking me out?”

I quickly dried my hair, put on a long nightdress, and hurried out to find him; he was in no condition to be wandering around.

I reached the door, hand on the knob, when it flung open. I furrowed my brows and stepped back, surprised to see Dane standing there with a smirk. He'd looked weak moments ago. How…?

Lowering my gaze, I saw him carrying a tray of food.

“I made dinner,” he whispered.

My lips curved into a wide smile, my heart soaring. “What… a surprise.”
