Chapter 320

AURORA

Dane shrugged. โ€œWell, maybe you were too busy to notice he was sick.โ€

I narrowed my gaze at him. โ€œBaby, I promiseโ€ฆ if I had known he was sick, I would never have taken him out to train.โ€

Dane nodded and sat beside Tristan, lifting Sera onto his lap. โ€œExactly what Iโ€™m sayingโ€”you were too occupied to notice he wasnโ€™t well.โ€

I rolled my eyes. โ€œIf I were really occupied, would I have had time to take him to train? You know I was just trying to let them have fun. It wasnโ€™t meant to be a serious training session.โ€

Dane nodded. โ€œOkayโ€ฆโ€ He was about to say more when the Pak doctor entered.

โ€œGood morning, Luna,โ€ the doctor greeted.

I nodded as he sat. โ€œHow old is he?โ€

โ€œTwelve,โ€ I answered. โ€œCan you tell me whatโ€™s wrong with him?โ€

The doctor nodded. โ€œHeโ€™s suffering from motion sickness. I understand he traveled across the country yesterday?โ€

I nodded, gently patting Tristanโ€™s head. โ€œHe also has a cold and needs to stay indoors and warm for a few days.โ€

The memory of Tristan running out into the cold came to mindโ€”it had to be the reason he was sick. Tristan sneezed, and Dane beat me to handing him a tissue.

โ€œThanks,โ€ Tristan muttered, his eyes darting toward me. I sensed heโ€™d noticed his fatherโ€™s distance.

I forced a smile and nodded.

The doctor handed me a bag of medication. โ€œHere are the herbs he needs. Use these to make tea, and give him these medications as prescribed. The instructions are in the bag.โ€

โ€œThank you, doctor.โ€ I turned to Dane, who was watching me intently. He locked eyes with me. โ€œCan I take them inside?โ€ I asked softly.

Dane stared a moment before gently setting Sera down. โ€œDarling, go with your mom. Iโ€™ll join you shortly.โ€

She nodded and took my hand.

โ€œCome on, Tristan,โ€ Dane said, lifting him effortlessly.

โ€œDad, I can walk on my own. Iโ€™m a big boy now,โ€ Tristan protested, wincing slightly.

โ€œYouโ€™ll always be my little champ, and Iโ€™ll carry you no matter how big you get,โ€ Dane replied with a soft chuckle.

I smiled at their exchange as they walked past. Dane carried Tristan to our room while I followed. He gently placed Tristan on the bed and tucked him under the duvet. โ€œYouโ€™ll need to stay here for the rest of the day,โ€ Dane said firmly.

Tristan frowned. โ€œHow can I get better if I donโ€™t move around a little?โ€

โ€œListen to your father, Tristan. You need to stay warm, and the weather is far too cold outside.โ€

โ€œFine,โ€ he groaned, turning away.

โ€œGood boy,โ€ Dane said, brushing Tristanโ€™s hair back. โ€œI need to get dressed and check on things at the park. Iโ€™ll be back soon, okay?โ€

Tristan nodded silently. He had always been an active child, and I knew staying in bed all day would feel like torture for him. But I resolved to do my best to make it less boring.

Sera let go of my hand and went to Tristanโ€™s side. โ€œHow are you feeling?โ€ she asked, her voice full of love and concern.

Tristan managed a small smile. โ€œIโ€™ll be fine, butโ€”โ€ His words were interrupted by a fit of coughing.

Dane reached for the herbal tea, but Sera was faster. She quickly picked up the cup, helped Tristan sit up, and held it for him as he drank slowly.

โ€œThanks,โ€ Tristan said, smiling weakly as he relaxed back onto the pillow sheโ€™d fluffed.

Dane stood beside me, watching them. โ€œAdorable, arenโ€™t they?โ€ he whispered.

I nodded, taking his hand. โ€œYes, they are. Iโ€™m so glad theyโ€™re home. Now that the problem is dealt with, they can stay, right?โ€

Dane nodded firmly. โ€œI donโ€™t want to be far from them ever again.โ€

I turned to him, and he squeezed my hand. โ€œCan I talk to you outside?โ€ he asked.

I hesitated, wondering if he was going to scold me again for taking the kids to train earlier. Was he going to blame me for Tristanโ€™s illness?

โ€œCan I?โ€ Dane repeated, his tone gentler.

I pushed my thoughts aside and nodded. โ€œOf course.โ€

โ€œLuna Aurora.โ€

I turned to see Raven standing at the door. My heart skipped a beat. Lately, his visits had only brought news of trouble or war.

โ€œYes, Raven. Is everything okay?โ€

He hesitated, rummaging through his leather bag. โ€œWellโ€ฆโ€

I swallowed hard and let go of Daneโ€™s hand. โ€œWhat is it?โ€

โ€œHere, Luna.โ€ He handed me a brown envelope.

Frowning, I took it. My hands shook as I started to break the seal, but then I paused and looked up at Dane. He gently took the envelope from me.

โ€œWho sent this?โ€ Dane asked sharply.

โ€œA stranger at the border,โ€ Raven replied.

โ€œA stranger at the border?โ€ Daneโ€™s tone rose with irritation. โ€œAnd you brought it here?โ€

Fear crept into me as I glanced at my kids. They had just come homeโ€”I didnโ€™t want any trouble now.

โ€œAlpha,โ€ Raven began cautiously, โ€œI donโ€™t know if she was a stranger. It was a woman in a cloak. She handed me the envelope and asked me to give it to Luna. I tried to see her face, but before I could, she disappeared.โ€

Dane gritted his teeth. โ€œWe donโ€™t need this,โ€ he said, turning to me. โ€œNot when the kids are here.โ€

I nodded in agreement, my heart pounding. Raven bowed slightly. โ€œIโ€™ll take my leave now, Luna, Alpha.โ€ He turned and left.

Dane broke the seal and pulled out some photographs. His eyes narrowed, and his jaw tightened as he leaned back.

โ€œLet me see,โ€ I said, snatching the photos. My heart stopped when I saw Warrick kissing Alina.

โ€œWhat?!โ€

โ€œWhere are my adorable niece and nephew?โ€ Evanderโ€™s cheerful voice rang out as he strode into the room. Panicked, I quickly hid the photographs.

โ€œUncle, Tristan is sick,โ€ Sera grumbled.

โ€œWhat?!โ€ Evander exclaimed, lowering his voice as he approached Tristan, who was now asleep.

โ€œHow did that happen?โ€ Evander asked, his tone quieter.

โ€œMotion sickness and a cold,โ€ I explained, trying to stay calm.

โ€œPoor kid,โ€ he murmured sympathetically.

Evanderโ€™s eyes narrowed. โ€œWhat are you hiding from me?โ€ he asked, stepping closer.

โ€œNothing,โ€ I replied quickly, but he wasnโ€™t convinced.

He snatched the photographs, and his expression darkened as he looked at them. His knuckles turned white as he clenched the photos tightly.

โ€œHow dare he cheat on her? Iโ€™ll make him pay for this!โ€ Evander growled, his voice low but seething with anger as he turned and left.
