Aurora held my hands and pulled me into a nearby empty room. Fear clouded her eyes. “What do you think he’ll do to Warrick?”

I gritted my teeth, clenching my fists. “Anything he deserves for doing this to my sister. I thought he loved Piper. I’ve been so consumed with pack duties that I forgot to look after my baby sister.”

I slammed my fist into the wall, groaning in frustration. “Aurora… Piper is going to be devastated when she sees this… she…” My voice trailed off as Aurora placed a comforting hand on my back and began to rub it gently.

“Calm down, Dane… please,” she pleaded. “I need you to keep a cool head right now.”

I pressed my eyes shut, trying to rein in the storm of anger coursing through me. My chest heaved as I shook my head, biting my bottom lip.

Leaning against the wall, I let out a deep breath. “I can’t help it, babe. I hate cheaters.”

Aurora stepped closer, cupping my face. “Close your eyes, Dane. Let me help you calm down.”

Reluctantly, I shut my eyes, ready to tell her it wasn’t working.

“Wait, Dad,” she interrupted. “Let me tell you everything that happened.”

I nodded, leaning back in my chair.

“This morning, Tristan was fine. Mum came to our room wearing her exercise suit. We knew she was heading out for a run, so we begged her to let us join.”

I lowered my head, grinding my teeth in regret. I hadn’t even given Aurora a chance to explain.

“Mum took us far away from the trainers to make sure we were safe. She let Tristan grab a wooden sword and showed us a few easy moves. She wasn’t even trying to train us.”

I nodded, letting her continue.

“Tristan loves being active, just like you. He started jumping around when Mum wasn’t looking, and that’s when he fell.”

I sighed, running a hand over my face. “So, in a way… it was my fault he fell.”

“No, Dad. It was nobody’s fault. I just wanted you to know that Mum is our best doctor. Whenever she treats us, she adds so much love and care that we heal faster. That’s why she wanted to treat Tristan’s wounds herself.”

I licked my lips, feeling ashamed. “I’m sorry, Sera.”

She smiled, shaking her head. “That belongs to Mum. You should say that to her instead. She was really hurt this morning—I could see it in her eyes.”
