Chapter 348
Dane
โWhat is her problem?โ I muttered, rubbing my temple. I watched her run down the hallway, into the bathroom, and slam the door shut. โYou goโฆ I will be coming back soon,โ she yelled.
Why does it feel like sheโs chasing me away? I sighed. My mood is already spoiled. I thought she was pregnant, but the doctor asked us to return in a week. โWhy canโt she just tell me if sheโs pregnant or notโฆ Why is that so hard?โ I bumped my fist against the wall, grunting, โFuck.โ
I have been craving those little pups for so long, and nowโฆ I paused, staring into space. Well, the doctor never said she wasnโt pregnant; she just asked us to come back in a week. That meansโฆ โAurora might be pregnant,โ I thought aloud.
I turned toward where sheโd gone and smirked. โBefore she gets back, Iโll prepare something special for her.โ I rushed down the hallway. On my way out of the cottage, I bumped into Miles. He greeted me, then immediately walked past and went inside.
I held his gaze. โI donโt know why I donโt trust this boy.โ I donโt trust any of themโAlina, Rowan, and all who joined the rebellion against the pack. I only spoke in Alinaโs favor this morning because I felt sorry for her; I donโt even know if she was telling the truth, but Warrick should fix his problem. Why would he kiss a girl who isnโt his mate?
I snorted, entering the pack house and rushing to my room. Tonight, Iโm taking Aurora to a romantic dinner in town. She can relax, and the babyโif there is oneโwill grow healthily, in love, and peace.
I freshened up in the bathroom, put on my clothes, and wore a nice perfume. By the time I was done, over thirty minutes had passed. โWhatโs keeping Aurora?โ I asked aloud, raising an eyebrow.
โMaybe she went to the office to work,โ I sighed, walking to her office. โAurora?โ I called, entering. โOhhโฆโ I whispered, seeing Evander and the kids inside. โHey kidsโฆ whereโs your mother?โ
โDaddy, whereโs Mummy?โ
We looked at each other in shock. โI thought sheโd be in the office.โ
Sera shook her head. โWe thought so too, but when we got here, we only saw Uncle Evander, so we decided to wait for her.โ
I ran a hand through my hair. Whatโs keeping her? Hasnโt she left the hospital cottage? I better go find her. I turned to leave when Tristan raced up to me and took my hand.
โDad, donโt leaveโฆ come help us solve this puzzle.โ
I grunted, turning to him. โChamp, I need to get your mother; she needs to get ready for dinner with me.โ
Sera frowned, stomping her feet. โBut Dadโฆ we need your help with this puzzle. We came to ask Mum, but she isnโt here, and Uncle Evander doesnโt know how to solve it.โ
I looked up at Evander; he shrugged and looked away. I rolled my tongue against the inside of my cheek. Whatโs in a kidโs puzzle that he canโt solve?
โFine,โ I groaned, walking to the desk and seeing the puzzle. I gulped. โThis isnโt a kidโs puzzle; this is a fucking adult puzzle,โ I growled through gritted teeth.
โDo it, Dad. This doesnโt take Mum five minutes,โ Tristan winced, watching me.
โDonโt trouble himโฆ you know Dad isnโt as bright as Mum, give him some time,โ Sera added.
I turned to them, raising an eyebrow. โOh really?โ I grunted.
Evander burst out laughing, and when I glared at him, he coughed and composed himself. โBetter for you,โ I growled, picking up the first piece. My gaze darted to the window; it was getting dark. I needed to get Aurora and take her to dinner.
I rolled my eyes, looking back at the puzzle. Everythingโs going so badly today. First, I had a headache and had to take medication. Then I met Aurora, who was complaining, followed by the unsuccessful pregnancy test, and now thisโฆ just when I thought Iโd take Aurora out.
I wiped my lips and hurried through the puzzle; I was almost halfway done.
โWowโฆ Dadโs goodโฆ youโll see, heโll beat Mumโs record,โ Tristan cheered, while Sera rolled her eyes.
โNo matter who wins, Iโll still be proud of them bothโtheyโre my parents, remember?โ
โDone,โ I breathed, grabbing my phone.
โWowโฆโ the kids cheered, eyes wide. Tristan walked to the table, trying to touch it, but he tripped and hit it. The puzzle scattered, and they both looked at me with wide eyes.
Hell noโฆ Iโm not doing that again.
โSee you later, kids,โ I said, darting out of the room before they could say anything.
I hurried from the pack house toward the cottage, heading for the hospital. As I got closer, I saw Aurora, her back to me, talking to someone.
Who was that? I wondered as I approached. She shifted, and I saw who she was talking to.
โMiles?โ I called softly. โWhy would she be talking to him?โ
