Chapter 347

Aurora

The words were out of my mouth before I realized what I'd said. Dane and I stared at each other, wide-eyed. His gaze dropped to my body as his lips curled into a smile. "What!!" he exclaimed excitedly.

I rushed to him. "Don't be too happy yetโ€ฆ I haven't checked yet, but I will."

Dane frowned. "Why are you wasting time here? Come, let's go check." He tried to take my hand, but I pulled away.

"Ermmโ€ฆ" I searched for another lie. "Well, I'm nervous, Daneโ€ฆ I just want to stay here a while and gather some courage."

"Nonsense," Dane blurted. "What courage? I'm here to give you all the courage you need. Come with me."

I shifted away. How do I get rid of him? Why is he so stubborn?

"No," I snapped, feigning seriousness. "Dane, you need to understand this is a sensitive issue for me, so I need to be calm before it can be done successfully."

Gosh, what nonsense am I spewing?

Dane shifted, looked at me, moved closer. I backed against the wall as he touched my neck.

"Are you feeling okay, Aurora?" he asked.

I frowned, crossing my arms. "Don't I look okay?"

Dane shrugged. "Well, I don't know. You're saying so many things at once, and I'm getting confused."

I sighed, dropping my gaze. "Maybe it's because I have a headache," I lied. "Dane, just go ahead. You'll only make me more paranoidโ€ฆ I'll finish the test and tell you the results."

Dane nodded. "Fine."

He turned to leave, and I breathed a sigh of relief. But then he turned back, rushed to me, and lifted me into his arms.

"Dane!" I screamed, holding onto his neck. "Put me down!"

Dane smirked. "Fine, if you don't want to listen, I'll gladly carry you there."

"Not fair," I said, rolling my eyes, and relaxed against his chest, enjoying the comfort.

But this isn't why I'm hereโ€ฆ I have very limited time to solve this mystery and free Warrick from Alina's clutches.

I looked over Dane's shoulder and saw Miles walking towards us. I rolled my eyes. If he'd arrived a little earlier, this drama would have been avoided.

I sank further into Dane's embrace and closed my eyes as he walked inside.

"You should have told me you wanted me to carry you, because you seem to enjoy it a lot," he said.

I clicked my tongue and ignored him. He reached a ward and gently lowered me onto a bed.

"Stay here, I'll go get the doctor."

I nodded, and he left. I sighed and sat up. I know I'm not pregnant.

Now I've made this mistake and given Dane high hopes. How disappointed he'll be when he finds out I haven't conceived.

I clicked my tongue and slapped my face. "I shouldn't haveโ€ฆ I should have thought twice before saying that."

I stood and walked to the window, opening it. A rush of fresh air, mingled with the earthy scent of green leaves, filled the room. I stood there a while, letting the breeze hit my face, my hair shifting in the soft wind, letting my mind go blank.

Such a huge responsibility, with such limited time. I just don't want to think about it right now.

I let my mind go blank while waiting for Dane. I heard approaching footsteps and rushed back to the bed, lying down. Looking at the ceiling, I saw a CCTV camera with a blinking red light.

I burst into laughter as it dawned on me that I'd made a complete fool of myself in front of anyone watching the CCTV footage.

Dane walked in, and I quickly composed myself, stifling my laughter. There's no way I could explain what I found so funny.

The pack doctor followed, adjusting his glasses as he walked past Dane and reached me.

"Greetings, Alpha. Luna, how are you feeling?"

I am not feeling anything, I screamed in my head, looking around the room, my fingers intertwined on my belly.

My eyes met Dane's, and he frowned. "Tell him," he whispered.

"Wellโ€ฆ" I started, clearing my throat. "It all started this morning. I lost my appetite, felt dizzy, and nauseous."

"Hmm," the pack doctor sighed, taking my hand to check my pulse.

My gaze found Dane, and I saw him grinning sheepishly. I narrowed my eyes at him.

How can he be so happy about this? He should feel sorry for me.

Selfishโ€ฆ he just wants a babyโ€ฆ that's all.

The doctor looked into my eyes, then checked my palm.

"Well, I can't see any visible symptoms now. I'd advise you to come back next week."

"Damnit," Dane groaned. I stood and walked to him; he seemed moody. "Let's go," he said, taking my hand as we started to leave.

"What!!" I pulled my hand away before reaching the exit. "I think I have diarrhea. You go; I'll come later."

Dane furrowed his brow. "But you can do that in our bathroom."

I shook my head. "No, this is urgent," I said, racing back inside towards the bathroom.
