Yancey arrived just then.

He pushed Dante aside and cradled Anne in his arms, desperate to help.

Dante replied, “She had a car accident.”

Dante looked despondent. “I’ll apologize to her myself,” he said quietly.

“Can you let me go?” Dante asked.

“I just want to hit you,” Meryl replied through gritted teeth.

“Meryl, calm down. You’re pregnant,” Chandler interjected.

He had brought her a coat and looked at her with worry. “It’s done now. Let’s just wait for news about Anne.”

Just then, a nurse emerged from the delivery room. “The accident has caused complications with the fetus. The midwife has determined that Anne can’t deliver naturally. We need to do surgery. Where’s the father? He needs to sign.”

Dante shot Yancey a resentful glance.

They were divorced, so he couldn’t even sign for her.

“I’ll sign!” Meryl rushed forward. “How is she?”

“The patient is conscious, but the baby’s condition is uncertain,” the nurse explained, handing Meryl some documents. Her hands trembled as she picked up the pen.

Chandler wrapped his arms around her shoulders, whispering, “Stay calm. Anne is lucky. I’ve contacted the best doctor; he’ll be doing her surgery.”

Meryl took a deep breath, feeling somewhat reassured by Chandler’s words.
