Chapter 547 Disappointment
Since this was a matter between Dante and Anne, Meryl felt like an outsider and couldnโt say too much. Of course, she couldnโt betray Anneโs trust either.
Meryl replied, โI donโt know.โ
โHow can you not know? Youโre Anneโs best friend! She tells you everything!โ Danteโs eyes were scarlet. โItโs my child, right? Meryl, just nod and tell me!โ
Meryl was swayed by him.
Chandler forcefully pulled Dante away, positioning himself protectively in front of Meryl.
โWhy are you pushing her, Dante? If we werenโt friends, Iโd have punched you by now,โ Chandler said, taking Merylโs hand and holding her in his arms.
He continued, โMeryl is pregnant, and sheโs understandably emotional because of whatโs going on between you two. Who are you to question her? If you want answers, ask Anne yourself!โ
Chandler looked down at Meryl, worry etched across his face. โAre you okay?โ
Meryl shook her head slightly.
โMaybe you should sit down and rest a bit?โ Chandler suggested.
Meanwhile, Rachel, who had been standing nearby, felt increasingly uncomfortable watching it.
Suddenly, she cried out in pain, clutching her forehead while her knees wobbled beneath her.
Chandler frowned, casually asking, โWhatโs wrong?โ
Rachelโs voice was faint. โI didnโt eat breakfast; I think Iโm just feeling a bit faint.โ
As she spoke, she was about to lean into Chandlerโs arms.
But Chandler shifted aside, a hint of coldness in his gaze as he pulled Walter closer.
Rachel stumbled into Walterโs arms instead.
Chandler remained calm. โThen Iโll let Walter take you to eat something?โ
Walter caught her gently, though his voice held a trace of annoyance. โMr. Aniston, Ms. Morgan had breakfast. On the way to pick her up from the police station, she ate some toast. I was going to bring it back for my girlfriend after finishing my work.โ
The implication was clear: Walter was upset that Rachel had eaten the toast he had intended for his girlfriend.
Rachel shot Walter a glare.
Chandlerโs face immediately darkened.
He realized Rachel had been lying to him.
Looking at her with disappointment, he asked, โRachel, why the act?โ
It was the first time Rachel had seen that look from Chandler, and she quickly explained, โChandler, donโt listen to Walter. I didnโt eat his food!โ
Walter couldnโt believe her shamelessness.
She had eaten the toast he bought for his girlfriend and lied about it.
He retorted, โMs. Morgan, if you didnโt eat it, then did my toast get eaten by a pig?โ
Rachelโs nose turned red, โHey, language!โ
โSince you say you didnโt eat, why are you so anxious?โ Walter pressed.
โIโฆโ Rachel stammered.
At this moment, Chandler felt quite disappointed.
After piecing everything together, he realized Rachel was up to no good.
Since Rachel had appeared, problems had arisen between him and Meryl โ misunderstandings that seemed to multiply.
Chandler could see that, at this rate, Meryl would only grow more distant from him.
He refused to follow in Daltonโs footsteps and certainly wouldnโt be fooled by a woman.
Chandler sensed that Rachelโs feelings toward him were complicated.
Losing all her relatives at a young age had created a dependency that morphed into a peculiar possessiveness.
This possessiveness made her instinctively hate any women around himโnot out of genuine affection.
In just a few minutes, Chandler made a decision.
He took Merylโs hand and said to Rachel, โStop trying to pull tricks in front of me from now on. It wonโt work.โ
