Chapter 555 Donโt Be Afraid
There was a dead silence for a few seconds.
Yancey gazed at Anneโs face and said firmly, โI am the babyโs father.โ
His statement irritated Dante, and he punched Yancey in the face.
Yanceyโs nose bridge was hit, and blood gushed out instantly.
โHow dare you say you are my daughterโs father? Where do you get the courage?โ
At the sight of the blood, Anne got angry.
โDante, why are you going crazy in my ward? Get out of here right now!โ
Yancey covered his nose bridge with his hands, his face showing pain. Meryl quickly took out a tissue and handed it to him. โYancey, are you okay? Do you need a doctor?โ
He shook his head and blocked his nostrils with a tissue. โItโs just a minor injury.โ
With that, he glanced at Dante and said, โGo out. Donโt annoy Anne. She just had a cesarean section. If she gets furious, the wound will easily split.โ
Anyone could have persuaded Dante to leave, but Yancey was the last person he wanted to do it.
But he was also very clear that Yanceyโs words made sense.
Having just given birth to a baby and been in a car accident, Anne really couldnโt get angry.
โAnne, have a good rest.โ
Dante planned to talk to Anne when she recovered some of her energy.
Less than two minutes after he left, a nurse came in and gave her an infusion.
The nurse asked curiously, โThe man outside has been standing in the corridor for the whole afternoon. Is he your family member?โ
Anne looked out through the crack in the door and found that Chandler was still waiting for Meryl outside.
โGo home now. Youโre pregnant. Take care of yourself. At least Iโve given birth now.โ
Meryl was still worried about Anne.
Yancey immediately said, โDonโt worry, Meryl. Iโll look after her, and the servants are on their way here.โ
Meryl nodded and left, leaving only Anne and Yancey in the ward.
โAre you hungry?โ He considerately tucked the corner of the quilt for her.
Anne shook her head gently, gazed at Yanceyโs embarrassed appearance, and said softly, โWash your face.โ
He obeyed.
More than ten minutes later, he came out with wet hair, and the water drops ran down his cheeks and dripped onto the white shirt he had just changed.
Anne closed her eyes on the bed. He moved very quietly, and even his breathing was barely audible.
Yancey walked to the bedside and stared at her. Suddenly, he recalled she had just been covered in blood on the side of the road.
At that moment, he was so scared that his soul left his body, and his mind went blank.
For the first time in his life, he was overwhelmed by a boundless fear, a sense of utter impotence.
Fortunately, Anne was not seriously injured, and both she and her baby were safe.
Yanceyโs gaze fell on the back of her hand.
There was an IV needle. Her skin was very delicate, with a part of her wrist exposed, which was a little blue from the chill.
Without hesitation, Yancey immediately sat on the chair next to her and took her hand.
His palms were warm, and he covered the back of her hand, trying to warm the cold liquid.
He remained motionless and silent, gazing at her intently.
After a long while, Anne finally opened her eyes when he had fallen asleep, leaning against the bed.
In the operating room, she had been transferred from natural birth to cesarean section before.
She was put on the operating table in excruciating pain. Upon hearing the medical staff say that an emergency cesarean section was needed, she was terrified.
The cold air invaded her limbs and bones. She was suddenly at a loss. She couldnโt stop shaking slightly, and her spirit was strained like a string ready to snap.
At that moment, Yancey was brought in by a nurse.
He approached Anne, held her hand, and coaxed, โDonโt be afraid. Iโm here.โ
