Chapter 587 Rescued

Despite the manโ€™s intimidating aura, the guard maintained a sliver of professionalism.

โ€œHow can I just hand over such an important key to you?โ€ the guard asked, his tone uncertain.

The man shot him a cold glare. โ€œI have little patience. Iโ€™ll give you one chance to take that back and say something smarter.โ€

Before the guard could respond, Felix delivered a sharp punch to his face.

โ€œForget it. You probably werenโ€™t going to say anything useful anyway,โ€ Felix said casually.

Without hesitation, he yanked the keys from the guardโ€™s belt and strode off toward the concert hall without a backward glance.

In the dimly lit lounge, Meryl huddled into herself, shivering uncontrollably. Suddenly, she heard faint noises in the distance.

She strained her ears, catching the sound of footsteps growing closer.

Jolting upright, she stumbled toward the door to investigate, but her frozen limbs betrayed her. She bumped into a table with a loud clatter and nearly fell.

Pain shot through her knee, making her cry out softly as she clutched it.

Felix, unlocking the heavy chains on the concert hall door, froze at the noise. He immediately dashed toward the source of the sound.

Meryl was rubbing her bruised knee when the power suddenly came back on, illuminating the entire lounge and the corridor outside.

The sudden brightness after hours of darkness was blinding. She instinctively shielded her eyes but felt herself being pulled into a firm embrace.

Startled, she froze.

The scent of the man holding her was unfamiliar, making her instinctively want to pull away.

But the grip tightened, refusing to let her go.

She glanced up and locked eyes with Felix.

Shock flickered across her face. It was the last person she had expected to see. Her gaze dropped to his legs as realization dawned.

After a few stunned seconds, she pointed at him, stammering, โ€œYouโ€ฆ you can walk?โ€

Felixโ€™s expression was calm, almost smug. โ€œThanks to you,โ€ he said, his voice as deep and steady as ever. His eyes seemed to glimmer. โ€œSurprised to see me?โ€

Meryl was definitely surprised.

โ€œHow did you know I was trapped here?โ€ she asked.

Felix shrugged. โ€œCall it intuition.โ€

Meryl frowned. She felt this guyโ€™s words were really hard to follow.

Meanwhile, Chandler arrived outside the concert hall and jumped out of his car, striding purposefully toward the entrance.

Spotting the guards, he grabbed one by the collar and demanded, โ€œWhere are the keys?โ€

After Felixโ€™s earlier โ€œvisit,โ€ the guards had become somewhat desensitized.

Tonight, it seemed like the concert hall had turned into a magnet for troublemakers. Here came another relentless one.

The guard, now thoroughly resigned, blurted, โ€œSome guy took them five minutes ago.โ€

Rachel trailed behind Chandler, leisurely fixing her hair. โ€œChandler, wait for me!โ€ she called out.

Chandler didnโ€™t even glance her way. Instead, he picked up his pace and disappeared into the building.

Inside, Felix quickly noticed Merylโ€™s condition.

Her lips were turning blue, and her hands and feet were ice-cold. She was freezing.

Felixโ€™s brow furrowed. Without hesitation, he pulled off his coat and handed it to her. โ€œPut this on,โ€ he said firmly.

Meryl hesitated. She knew it was inappropriate, but the bone-chilling cold was unbearable.

Her body felt like it was shutting down.

With no room for pride, she wrapped herself in Felixโ€™s coat. The warmth was a relief, but as her mind cleared, a thought surfaced.

Chapter 588 Determine the Truth

Meryl looked at Felix. โ€œWas it you who killed Mr. White?โ€

โ€œMr. White?โ€ Felix frowned. โ€œWhoโ€™s that?โ€

โ€œYinson White, the bar owner. Didnโ€™t you go see Rachel there?โ€ Meryl pressed.

Felix let out a dry laugh. โ€œWhy would I kill him? I donโ€™t even know who he is. Cover my tracks? You give me too little credit. For something so trivial, I wouldnโ€™t bother.โ€

Meryl studied his face, searching his eyes as if trying to determine the truth.

Felix met her gaze without flinching. His composure didnโ€™t waver.

Having spent some time with him, Meryl understood Felix to a degree. She knew that though he seemed unpredictable, he wasnโ€™t one to lie.

โ€œIf he says it wasnโ€™t him, then it wasnโ€™t him,โ€ Meryl concluded silently.

โ€œBut if it wasnโ€™t Felix, how did Mr. White die?โ€ she thought.

The situation grew murkier, leaving her no closer to understanding the truth.

Meryl suddenly remembered her dinner plans with Chandler.

Realizing she was already late, she turned to leave, but Felix spoke up. He seemed to guess what she was up to.

โ€œDid you see the photo I sent you?โ€

Meryl frowned. โ€œMy phone has no signal. What photo?โ€

Felix handed her his phone. On the screen, Meryl saw a picture of Chandler and Rachel sitting in a car together.

They were parked outside the orchestra building, appearing to talk.

From the angle, it looked almost like they were embracing.

โ€œThis one wasnโ€™t staged,โ€ Felix said, shrugging. โ€œI just happened to catch them.โ€

Merylโ€™s face turned pale. Her fingers curled tightly, and she bit her lip.

Felixโ€™s voice was low but deliberate. โ€œSo, what do you think? Maybe itโ€™s time you stepped aside and let them be.

โ€œOr better yet,โ€ his gaze flicked to her abdomen, โ€œMarry me. Let me try the role of a ready-made dad.โ€

At his words, Meryl snapped. She shoved the phone back at him.
