Secret Admiration: Finding True Love Afterโ€ฆ

Chapter 635 Heโ€™s Here

Meryl was almost seven months pregnant.

It was late at night and pitch dark outside. The weather had been changing lately, making the nights quite chilly.

Being pregnant, where could she go if not to Anneโ€™s?

Worry gnawed at Chandler as he stormed out the door, his face dark with concern.

He drove straight to the orchestra hall, which was a secure facility, and no one could enter without proper credentials. Even with Chandler pulling rank, the security guard wouldnโ€™t budge.

However, the guard informed him that due to an extended holiday break, most members had left town for concerts, leaving the building nearly empty.

Learning that Meryl wasnโ€™t there, Chandler slumped back in his car, lighting one cigarette after another.

With his number blocked, he couldnโ€™t even get through to Merylโ€™s phone.

Just then, Walter called, โ€œSir, Ms. Morgan is awake.โ€

Chandlerโ€™s temple twitched. Just hearing Rachelโ€™s name was enough to set his teeth on edge.

He asked, โ€œSo what if sheโ€™s awake? Get a doctor! Why are you telling me?โ€

Unable to find Meryl, Chandler was in a foul mood, and Walter had the misfortune of walking right into the line of fire.

Walter instinctively rubbed his nose and said softly, โ€œBut she wonโ€™t stop crying, says her whole body hurts, and keeps demanding to see you. Nothing I say makes any difference.โ€

The wailing had been going on half the night, disturbing the neighboring rooms so much theyโ€™d knocked on the door several times.

Walter knew he shouldnโ€™t be bothering Chandler at this hour, but he was at his witโ€™s end.

โ€œThen get a doctor to prescribe her some painkillers.โ€

With that, Chandler hung up with a sharp click.

Pulling out the last cigarette from the pack, he lit it between his lips.

Things were starting to spiral out of control.

Ever since Rachel returned to the country, his relationship with Meryl had been hitting rough patches every other day.

Perhaps it was time to find a way to send Rachel away.

As his cigarette burned down to the filter, Chandler suddenly thought of a place.

He wondered, โ€œCould she have gone back to Stone Villa?โ€

Late at night, after leaving, Meryl initially thought about checking into a hotel.

But being so far along in her pregnancy and having just been discharged from the hospital, the doctor had strongly insisted she shouldnโ€™t be alone.

She didnโ€™t want to disturb Anne, whose house was noisy at night with children, making it difficult to get proper rest.

So she took a taxi to Stone Villa.

Bianca was sitting on the couch watching TV.

When Meryl walked in, Bianca did a double take, instinctively glancing behind her. โ€œYouโ€™re out of the hospital? Why are you alone? Whereโ€™s Chandler? Isnโ€™t he with you?โ€

Since their relationship was mended, Merylโ€™s old room had been cleaned up and prepared for her.

During Merylโ€™s hospital stay just days ago, Bianca had visited, bringing plenty of health supplements.

While changing into slippers, Meryl replied, โ€œYeah, he didnโ€™t come. Iโ€™m a bit tired, so Iโ€™m going upstairs to rest.โ€

Bianca was undoubtedly happy to have Meryl stay, but her expression froze when she saw the suitcase in her hand. โ€œWhatโ€™s going on? Did you and Chandler fight?โ€

Meryl didnโ€™t elaborate.

Malcolm approached, saying, โ€œWhatโ€™s all this fighting about? We men work our butts off every day, then come home to deal with more drama. Canโ€™t you stop making such a fuss over nothing?โ€

Bianca glared at Malcolm, not taking kindly to his words.

โ€œMalcolm, whatโ€™s with the attitude? Who exactly are you calling dramatic?โ€

Malcolm replied, โ€œIโ€™m just stating facts. Donโ€™t take it personally.โ€

Bianca shot back. โ€œDo you even know whatโ€™s going on between them? Why are you so quick to come down on your daughter? Would you say the same thing if this was happening to Lydia? Have I been too easy on you lately? Making you forget who really runs this house?โ€

Bianca had been fired up for a while now.

Malcolm, desperate to avoid divorce, had been walking on eggshells at home, trying his best to stay on Biancaโ€™s good side.

Though they kept up appearances as a married couple, behind closed doors, Malcolm was relegated to sleeping on the floor.

Bianca flatly refused to let him in the bed. โ€œYou want to sleep in a bed? Sure, go ahead! After weโ€™re divorced, you can sleep in any bed you want. Why not run back to your mistress, Sarah Johnson?โ€

That comment left Malcolm speechless. At over fifty years old, the poor guy had been sleeping on the hard floor for months, leaving his back stiff as a board.

At home, Biancaโ€™s word was law. Malcolm had to swallow his pride and submit to her every whim, more abject than a servant.

If he didnโ€™t, Bianca would throw him out and file for divorce.

When Meryl came back, and they heard about her fight with Chandler, Malcolm immediately related it to his recent situation.

His words came out a bit too blunt, unexpectedly setting off Bianca.

Knowing that continuing to argue would only make things worse, Malcolm backed down. โ€œAlright, alright, I was wrong to say that, okay?โ€

Meryl went to her room, gently closing the door behind her.

Bianca followed her in, wanting to figure out what was causing the conflict between Meryl and Chandler.

Meryl lowered her eyes softly.

How could such complicated problems be explained in just a few words?

Seeing Merylโ€™s silence, Bianca didnโ€™t push further. โ€œJust make yourself at home here. It is your house! Stay as long as you need.โ€

In the middle of the night, as Meryl lay half-asleep in bed, she heard a faint sound at the door.

Too tired to investigate, she kept her eyes closed.

Suddenly, the other side of the bed dipped. Someone had climbed in.

Meryl snapped awake, instinctively turning her head.

She thought, โ€œItโ€™s Chandler! What is he doing here?โ€

Meryl reflexively clutched at the blanket, wrapping it tighter around herself.

Without a doubt, Bianca must have let him in.

Meryl let out a quiet sigh to herself.

She rolled over, turning her back to Chandler and trying to go back to sleep.

Being in her third trimester, sheโ€™d been feeling increasingly tired lately. The cooler weather only made her more tired.

Chandlerโ€™s voice cut through the darkness as he gently tapped her shoulder. โ€œMeryl, we need to talk.โ€

Meryl kept her eyes closed, neither pulling away nor responding, just lying there with her back to him, focused on sleeping.

He said, โ€œEven if she provoked you, you shouldnโ€™t have pushed her down the stairs. What if sheโ€™s seriously injured, Meryl? What if she ends up with some permanent condition and becomes our problem for life?โ€

At these words, Merylโ€™s eyes snapped open in the darkness. A heavy weight settled in her chest.

She wondered if Chandler had seen the blood pack Rachel had left at home. Rachel was clearly faking, yet here he was, accusing her of pushing Rachel downstairs and taking Rachelโ€™s side.

Originally, Meryl had wanted to understand why Rachel knew their house code and was sleeping in their bed and had Chandler arranged it.

But now, it seemed like the answer didnโ€™t matter anymore.

Her lips trembled as she spoke with bitter disappointment, โ€œEven if she doesnโ€™t end up with any permanent injuries, sheโ€™s still going to be tied to you for life, isnโ€™t she?โ€

Chandler froze. โ€œMeryl, how could you think that way?โ€

โ€œAm I wrong to think this way? Chandler, why am I really in the hospital? Was it really because Rachel attacked me in a fit of rage after being accused of plagiarism? No. Itโ€™s because of you! Rachel wants you for herself, so she canโ€™t stand to see me happy. She canโ€™t stand to see the baby in my belly doing well. All this pain, yes, she caused it, but looking at it another way, youโ€™re the one who brought this into my life!โ€
