Chapter 636 Comforting His Wife
Chandlerโs gaze held a hint of pain. He was the one who cared most about Meryl and their unborn childโs safety.
Yet his good intentions had been misunderstood by Meryl, who now saw him as someone who would harm them.
Meryl bit her lip in the darkness of the room, hoping Chandler couldnโt see her tears.
She quietly wiped her eyes with the corner of the blanket. โI didnโt push her down those stairs. Look at how Rachel puts on this whole act, and you immediately start doubting me.
โSince you think I pushed her, fine, letโs say I did. Iโm just that evil. Iโm not good enough for you! Just go!โ
Her chest tightened with emotion, making it hard to breathe. Her voice cracked as she finished speaking.
She didnโt want to appear vulnerable in front of Chandler, but the unfairness of it all was overwhelming.
Though Meryl had her back to him, Chandler could sense she was crying. His heart ached for her.
Chandler pulled Meryl into his embrace, holding her close. โAlright, it was my fault. Please stop crying.โ
He had to admit, walking in to find blood everywhere, and Rachel soaked to the bone like a drowned rat, anyone would have jumped to conclusions.
Especially since Meryl had recently been hospitalized because of Rachelโฆ
It was understandable that Meryl harbored resentment towards Rachel and might lash out at her.
Chandler wasnโt trying to blame Meryl. He was just stating the facts.
He said, โCome on, donโt cry anymore. I believe you.โ
Meryl had a feeling Chandlerโs words of belief werenโt genuine, just something he said to soothe her.
She bit her lip, feeling even more miserable. โI want to sleep.โ
Chandler studied Meryl for a few seconds. Seeing her eyes closed, genuinely trying to sleep, he lay down on the other side of the bed.
His voice came out low and deep. โGo home with me tomorrow. Iโll find a way to get her out of here.โ
With the plagiarism scandal, Rachelโs reputation was shot. Forget about holding a concert. She might not even get hired for small gigs.
In this industry, reputation was everything. At this point, developing her career abroad would be her best option.
It was the perfect opportunity to get rid of her.
Meryl knew perfectly well that this wasnโt over. While Rachel might be at the heart of her problems with Chandler, sending Rachel away wouldnโt magically fix everything.
โIโm not going home,โ she said stubbornly. โIโm perfectly fine staying here.โ
At least until Rachel was gone for good, she had no intention of returning home.
Chandler frowned. โMeryl, Iโm sending her away. Arenโt you done being angry?โ
Meryl stayed silent, closing her eyes to rest.
Being pregnant, she needed proper rest for the babyโs sake.
Maybe it was Chandlerโs presence beside her, combined with everything weighing on her mind, but even with her eyes closed, sleep wouldnโt come.
After all the drama and missing dinner, her stomach betrayed her with a couple of growls.
In the darkness, Chandlerโs large hand reached from behind her, gently caressing her belly.
โIโll make you some pasta,โ he said, getting out of bed.
Meryl replied petulantly, โIโm not hungry. Donโt bother.โ
Chandler responded with tender affection, โWell, Iโm hungry. Keep me company while I eat.โ
He was always this gentle, maintaining his composure no matter how moody she got or how much she snapped at him, always finding ways to soothe her.
The room fell into silence.
Meryl gently caressed her belly.
Perhaps for the babyโs sake, she shouldnโt let herself get lost in her emotions.
Chandler had his burdens to bear; his hands were tied, too.
With Rachel, it was duty and obligation, not love.
Besides, he was planning to send Rachel away.
This thought brought her some comfort.
About ten minutes later, Chandler came in.
Night had fallen deep, and the Stone family had all retired to bed.
โI made you some pasta with the shrimp you love.โ
Chandler sat down on the edge of the bed. โWill you get up and eat something? Even if youโre mad at me, eat first, then be angry. Donโt neglect your health.โ
Meryl felt her irritation melt away, as if a gentle breeze had smoothed it over.
Even in the middle of their fight, Chandler was still worried about her well-being.
It was past one in the morning, and during these cold days in Kingsdom, everyone was typically tucked away in their warm beds at night.
No CEO in their right mind would be up at this ungodly hour making food for their wife.
Meryl wasnโt usually unreasonable.
But thinking about the afternoonโs hurt feelings, she said, โEven if I eat your pasta, it doesnโt make things right.โ
Chandler revealed a slight smile, finding her pouty anger somewhat adorable.
He knew what was bothering her.
โFine, then Iโll pack my things and move to Stone Villa to live with you.โ
After all, living apart wasnโt an option for them.
Many couplesโ problems started with living separately.
Meryl was surprised. โSince when does the husband permanently camp out at the wifeโs parentโs house? Arenโt you worried about the gossip? People will call you a freeloader.โ
Chandler raised an eyebrow. โLet them talk. Dante would kill for the chance to freeload off Anne but canโt. Besides, itโs just reputation. Youโre more important than that. Wherever you go, Iโll follow.โ
Meryl was speechless.
Chandlerโs attitude was absolutely unbeatable.
No wonder he ended up with a wife.
Who knew this guy had such a shameless side?
Without warning, he bent down and swept Meryl up into his arms.
Merylโs face drained of color. โWhat are you doing?โ
He replied, โIf we waste any more time, the pasta will get mushy. Iโm carrying you over.โ
Meryl was so hungry she could feel her stomach touching her backbone.
Once they were in the light, Chandler noticed Merylโs eyes were red and swollen.
Guilt flooded his eyes as he said, โI had no idea she would suddenly show up at our place. Maybe she figured out the password.โ
The code was Merylโs birthday, not that hard to guess.
Meryl froze, sensing something wasnโt quite right.
She and Rachel werenโt close. How could Rachel possibly know her birthday?
Meryl fell silent and focused on eating her pasta.
Suddenly, she thought perhaps she shouldnโt keep fighting with Chandler.
After all, punishing yourself for someone elseโs mistakes was foolish.
Just as this thought crossed her mind, Chandlerโs phone on the table started buzzing non-stop.
Though his phone was on silent, the vibrations were strong enough to make the table shake.
He glanced at it and rejected the call without hesitation.
Meryl noticed it was Walter calling.
Chandler ignored the call, but shortly after, Rachelโs number appeared on his phone.
Meryl guessed that Walter must be taking care of Rachel at the hospital.
โJust answer it,โ she said. โIf you donโt, sheโll keep calling.โ
Chandler picked up, his tone hostile. โDidnโt I tell you to get a doctor if somethingโs wrong?โ
Walter replied uncomfortably, โThe situation is complicated, Sir. Ms. Morgan seems to have lost her sightโฆ she canโt see anything.โ
The night was so quiet that Meryl could hear the voice from the phone.
Rachel had gone blind?
