The following two days passed quietly for Meryl. She continued staying at the Stone familyโs place, and Malcolm didnโt dare say anything about it. Chandler would call Meryl periodically to update her on the situation on his end. The eye specialist was coming to examine Rachel today. Theyโd soon know the condition of her eyes and whether they could be treated. Meryl had used these two days to compose a new piece at home.

Seeing Meryl preparing to leave, Bianca, who was sitting on the couch having some snacks, spoke up. โYou must be about seven months along now? It would be best if you didnโt go out alone. Iโll come with you.โ
Meryl shook her head gently. She was going out to clear her mind and wanted some personal space. Having Bianca along would make her feel uncomfortable. โIโll be fine on my own,โ Meryl said. Bianca didnโt insist.
After leaving, Meryl wandered. She glanced at the time. Exactly a year ago, she and Chandler had been on their way to get their marriage license. It was hard to believe how quickly time had flown. In the blink of an eye, theyโd reached their first anniversary. Meryl pulled out her phone, tempted to call Chandler. But would it seem desperate to remind him about their anniversary?

If he genuinely cared, heโd remember without prompting. Calling him now might feel like she was forcing him to celebrate. Being heavily pregnant, even a short walk left Meryl tired, so she rested on a nearby bench. Suddenly, her phone rang.

She hadnโt expected the call to connect, only to disconnect immediately. Meryl stared at her phone dejectedly for a long while. If the call had gone through, why hadnโt Chandler said anything? This emotional uncertainty was starting to wear on her. She hadnโt seen Chandler since they parted ways two days ago. Suddenly, she realized how much she missed him and how badly she wanted to see him.
