Chapter 666 Run Away

โ€œMs. Stone, please save Mr. Powell! Heโ€™s still so young! If he canโ€™t stand again, it would be such a waste!โ€

Meryl fell silent on the other end of the line, her mind racing.

Philipโ€™s mention of prison struck a chord, bringing back memories of her time behind bars.

She had only spent three years there, and it had been unbearable.

But Felix? He had endured a full ten years!

What kind of disappointment must he have felt towards the Powell family to prefer staying in prison over facing the world outside?

At that moment, Meryl felt an unexpected connection with Felix, a shared understanding of their struggles.

After hanging up, Chandler noticed that Meryl seemed lost in thought, her mind wandering, likely to Felix.

Following her gaze, he saw her staring at the medical kit in the corner.

Chandlerโ€™s brows furrowed.

After a few seconds, he made a decision. โ€œMeryl, if you want to go, then go.โ€

3/14

He understood that Meryl had a remarkable talent for healing, and helping others was a calling for her.

As her husband, his role was to support her unconditionally.

Chandler had always been on board with her practicing medicine.

Gently, he cupped Merylโ€™s cheek and said softly, โ€œBut remember, youโ€™re my woman. You can treat him, but donโ€™t let Felix sweep you away.โ€

Meryl nodded vigorously, surprised by Chandlerโ€™s willingness to let her go.

โ€œI know,โ€ she replied, her heart swelling with gratitude.

She quickly grabbed her acupuncture kit and turned to leave, but Chandler took her hand, his touch warm and reassuring, โ€œIโ€™ll drive you.โ€

Meryl smiled, unable to resist the urge to hug him tightly. She tiptoed and planted a soft kiss on his cheek.

โ€œWhere else could I find such an understanding husband? Chandler, youโ€™re amazing!โ€

There werenโ€™t many men like him, and her admiration for Chandler grew even deeper.

As they left the house, Rachel watched them from her room, her gaze fixed on the door until the car disappeared from view.

5/14

Chandler was sending Meryl away, but the thought of leaving filled her with dread.

After a moment of hesitation, Rachel made a bold decision.

She quickly packed a few things, dragged her suitcase to the door, and stepped outside.

Not far from the house, she spotted a sleek Cayenne parked at the curb.

The window rolled down, revealing a smiling man inside. โ€œRachel,โ€ he called, waving at her.

Rachel froze for a moment, instinctively taking a step back.

It was Christopher.

6/14

Her expression shifted, a mix of shock and unease flooding over her. โ€œWhat are you doing here?โ€ she thought, feeling an urge to retreat further.

But Christopher seemed oblivious to her discomfort.

He swung open the car door and grabbed her wrist, pulling her into the vehicle with surprising force.

Before she knew it, Rachel found herself sitting on Christopherโ€™s lap, their faces inches apart, breathing in each otherโ€™s space.

โ€œRachel, Iโ€™ve missed you these past few days,โ€ he murmured, leaning in to kiss her.

Startled, Rachel dropped her suitcase, which hit the ground with a thud.

โ€œWhat are you doing here?โ€ she gasped, pushing against his chest.

She mused, โ€œThis is only a few hundred yards from Chandlerโ€™s place!โ€

โ€œRachel, I couldnโ€™t take it anymore. I had to see you! I tried calling, but you didnโ€™t pick up. I thought maybe you were coming out to meet me?โ€

Rachel was fuming.

She thought, โ€œWhat a lunatic! If I hadnโ€™t happened to step out, would he have tried to sneak into the house?

7/14

What if he was caught by the cameras?โ€

8/14

Unbeknownst to them, a figure in a black cap stood a distance away, watching their every move with keen interest.

The tall, lanky guy next to the man said, โ€œAndy, youโ€™ve been lurking here for days just to keep an eye on this woman? You really into her?โ€

The man called โ€œAndyโ€ stayed silent, and the lanky guy continued, โ€œBut she seems pretty cozy with Christopher. Just look at them in the car, getting all touchy-feelyโ€ฆ damn, thatโ€™s some next-level excitement.โ€

Andy pulled a cap down over the lanky guyโ€™s eyes. โ€œShut your eyes and stop staring!โ€

Inside the car, things were heating up.

9/14

The vehicle began to rock violently in the night, a clear sign of the intense activity within.

Not wanting to stick around, Andy said to the lanky guy, โ€œLet Christopher handle the next batch of business.โ€

The lanky guy nodded but then hesitated, a puzzled look creeping onto his face. โ€œWait a minute, Andy. If youโ€™re into her, isnโ€™t Christopher your rival? Why hand the business over to him?โ€

โ€œWho said Iโ€™m into her?โ€ Andy replied, irritation lacing his voice.

The lanky guy frowned. โ€œIf youโ€™re not into her, then why have you been watching her

10/14

for so long? Whatโ€™s so special about this woman?โ€

Andy didnโ€™t respond, his cap shading most of his face, lost in thought.

Despite her gut feeling, Meryl was still taken aback when she saw Felixโ€™s legs.

The injuries were severe. Without prompt treatment, amputation could be a real possibility.

His legs were covered in bruises, some areas turning a dark, ominous shade from the prolonged neglect.

Furrowing her brow, Meryl turned to Philip, her expression serious. โ€œYou need

11/14

to stand guard outside. Donโ€™t let anyone in. And I need a basin.โ€

Philip nodded, quickly fetching a clean basin and taking up his post by the door.

Meryl felt for Felixโ€™s pulse and then retrieved silver needles from her acupuncture kit.

She pinpointed several pressure points and expertly inserted the needles.

โ€œDoes it hurt?โ€ she asked.

Felix, pale and weak, shook his head, though sweat was beading on his forehead.

The infection had set in due to the untreated wounds, and he likely had a

12/14

fever. Meryl soaked a towel in cold water and placed it on his forehead to help cool him down.

As time passed, dark blood began to seep out from the needles in his knees.

โ€œThis pus needs to be expelled quickly, or you risk losing your legs,โ€ Meryl said.

Felix remained silent, his eyes fixed on Merylโ€™s face, unblinking.

Meryl noticed something different about him today.

Normally chatty, he was unusually calm, not uttering a word since she entered the room.

With Felix quiet, Meryl decided to keep

13/14

her mouth shut as well.

The pus flowed slowly, and before long, over half an hour had passed. With most of it drained, Meryl took bandages and wrapped his legs tightly.

โ€œThereโ€™s still a little left, but it should be absorbed gradually. In the meantime, you need to rest in bed and absolutely must not get up.โ€

Just as she finished speaking, a commotion erupted outside, a womanโ€™s voice cutting through the air.

โ€œMrs. Miranda Powell, what are you doing here?โ€ Philipโ€™s voice rang out suddenly.

โ€œWhereโ€™s Felix? Is he in there?โ€ Miranda asked, stepping forward to enter.

14/14

Philip blocked her path, refusing to let her in.

Mirandaโ€™s expression soured instantly. โ€œWhat do you think youโ€™re doing? Who do you think you are to stop me?โ€

With that, a couple of bodyguards behind her swiftly overpowered Philip, and the door was pushed open.
