Chapter 710 Conflict
Meryl was disappointed upon seeing Chandlerโs expression. Of course, she didnโt genuinely wish for Rachel to die. She merely wanted to gauge Chandlerโs stance and, more crucially, determine who held greater importance in his heartโher or Rachel.
She was putting him to the test, but Chandler hesitated. A look of disappointment crossed Merylโs face. Just then, Anne returned.
Meryl remained silent, broke free from Chandlerโs embrace, made her way towards Anne, then turned around, and walked out of the ward.
Chandler watched Merylโs back, astonished that she left him so abruptly, and felt rather helpless.
A few minutes later, Walter entered from outside and said, โSir, Lydia has just been wheeled into the operating room. She might be on the verge of giving birth.โ
Chandlerโs expression was rather cold. At this moment, he was in a foul mood and had no interest in this matter.
Walter said, โMalcolm is waiting outside the operating room. Even her biological mother, Sandra, has come!โ
Chandler suddenly recalled that when Meryl entered the operating room, only he and the driver were waiting for her outside.
But when it came to Lydiaโs childbirth, Malcolmโs attitude had changed significantly. He even personally stood guard outside Lydiaโs ward.
In fact, Lydia was far more fortunate than Meryl.
At the thought of this, Chandler felt pity for Meryl.
Meryl had always lacked love and had never asked for much.
Clearly, when they got married, he had intended to give Meryl the very best.
Walter noticed that Chandlerโs face looked somewhat ashen.
Chandler had spent the entire night in the corridor, exposed to the wind, and seemed to have developed a fever when he woke up that morning.
Walter wanted to take him to see a doctor, but Chandler was solely focused on cooking for Meryl and refused to go.
Walter advised, โYou donโt look well. Youโd better consult a doctor and get some medicine.โ
Chandler remained silent.
Walter could tell that Chandler was distracted and guessed it was probably due to Meryl.
Walter could not help them.
Lydia was nervous as she entered the operating room.
Her bone was dislocated, causing excruciating pain, especially in the pelvic region.
She felt as if she were paralyzed. She had to stay in bed, having never felt so humiliated.
Moreover, Charlotte had been persistently refusing to let the doctor administer painkillers to Lydia.
Lydia cursed Charlotte repeatedly in her mind, feeling that Charlotte showed no regard for her feelings.
Although Lydia was dissatisfied with Charlotte, she didnโt dare to lash out at Charlotte.
She could only attempt to get Malcolm to assist her.
Fortunately, Malcolm had always been quite fond of her.
As soon as Lydia started crying, Malcolm couldnโt bear it and even got into an argument with Charlotte in the ward.
Just at that moment, the baby in her womb had reached 32 weeks. Coupled with the fact that she had been receiving pulmonaryโpromoting injections recently, the doctor suggested they could try to deliver the baby. Thus, Charlotte finally gave her consent for Lydia to give birth.
Lydia was extremely anxious because the doctor had long informed her that the baby had congenital heart disease and might not survive.
Therefore, even as she walked into the operating room, Lydia was on tenterhooks. And she never expected that Sandra would turn up just before she entered.
Sandra was worried about Lydiaโs wellโbeing and secretly came to the hospital to see her.
After all, Lydia was her biological daughter. The thought of Lydia suffering in the hospital had kept Sandra from sleeping well for several days.
Originally, Sandra just intended to take a quick peek at Lydia before she entered the operating room and then left. But she unexpectedly encountered Morton and Charlotte.
Lydia was lying on the operating table while the doctor was conducting the final examination. However, Lydia was distracted. Just before she entered the operating room, she witnessed Charlotte slap Sandra.
Charlotteโs face turned pale with rage upon seeing Sandra.
Lydia also heard Charlotte shout at Sandra, โHow dare you show your face in front of me? Youโre incredibly audacious.โ
The scene descended into chaos.
Charlotte was always known for her nobility, yet in such a public place as the hospital, she not only started shouting abuse but also slapped Sandra repeatedly and kept hurling insults at Sandra.
At that time, Lydia was puzzled as to why Charlotte would call Sandra a mistress.
Charlotte seemed to be enraged beyond her control. She lunged forward, grabbed Sandra, and slapped her again.
Just then, the nurse from the operating room came to take Lydia to the operating room, so Lydia had no idea what transpired next.
Lydia felt a nagging sense of unease.
She surmised that what could have enraged Charlotte so much might be that Sandra had dated Morton before dating Malcolm.
Otherwise, Charlotte wouldnโt have called Sandra a mistress.
If that were truly the case when Charlotte found out that she was Sandraโs daughterโฆ
Lydia didnโt dare to contemplate the possibility any further.
Dalton didnโt love her, and she could only rely on Charlotte.
But now it seemed that Charlotte might not be dependable either.
Lydia kept praying in her heart that her son could survive for a few more days. Then she would find a way to alter her situation by relying on the child.
After all, the child was a member of the Aniston family.
No matter how angry Charlotte was, she couldnโt overlook him.
Moreover, everyone in the Kingsdom knew that she was about to give birth. Even if Charlotte hated her, they had to feign a harmonious family in front of outsiders.
Meryl had already given birth, and Lydia had secretly inquired that it was also a boy.
Lydia intended to swap Merylโs son with this child afflicted with congenital heart disease.
The doctor had already hinted to Lydia that there was something amiss with the fetus in her womb.
In order to establish a firm position in the Aniston family, Lydia felt she had no other choice.
