Chapter 11

I had already hired a private investigator to monitor the Winters family 24 hours a day. After I left, Azazel—who rarely lost his composure in front of my father—reportedly kicked over a table in rage.

“Sylvia did this deliberately!” he shouted. “She called her father here just to intimidate us! I already agreed to the marriage arrangement—why is she still acting like this?”

Christine sighed, trying to reason with him. “Sylvia’s been spoiled since childhood. It’s probably because your tone was harsh, and you seemed reluctant. And Rebecca slapped her. She was upset, so she called her father. Staying with him for a few days might be good—his home has better medical facilities for her pregnancy. The baby will be safer there. In a few days, we can go get her. Just speak more gently when you bring up the marriage arrangement again. Once her anger subsides and she sees we’re sincere, she’ll come back.”

Azazel snorted coldly. “All this drama, threatening us—she just wants me to beg her to accept the arrangement. Fine, for the family’s sake, for the child’s sake, I’ll sacrifice myself one more time.”

Richard frowned. “That Sylvia is truly too spoiled. A minor displeasure and she humiliates the entire family. No wonder neither Alaric nor Azazel liked her. Fortunately, she loved Azazel deeply and will compromise for his sake. Otherwise, our family would have no control over her!”

“Who wants her affection?” Azazel scoffed. “Rebecca is a hundred times better than her! Let’s wait a month before going to get her. When she’s anxious from waiting, she’ll agree quickly without playing hard to get.”

His parents nodded in agreement. I watched the video my investigator had secretly recorded of their family conversation and couldn’t help but laugh bitterly. That same day, I told my father I wanted to terminate the pregnancy.
