Chapter 37: Popular with Men
As soon as the words left her mouth, Abbie realized her mistake and quickly apologized. "I'm sorry, Kelvin. I didn't mean it like that. I meant I envy her popularity with men."
"And from childhood to adulthood, I haven't had many friends except for you," she continued.
Chris, who was driving, overheard the conversation and instantly understood the situation. No wonder Mr. Foley's aura seemed off; it was because of his ex-wife.
But Miss Berry was so hypocritical! She deliberately mentioned Mr. Foley's ex-wife but pretended otherwise. I really don't understand why Mr. Foley has tolerated her for so many years.
"Don't mention her again," Kelvin warned, his voice sharp.
The angrier he got, the happier Abbie became. This clearly showed how much he disliked the woman.
"Kelvin, don't be angry. If you don't like her, I won't bring her up again," she said, softening her voice and gently wrapping her hands around his arm.
The moment she touched him, his body visibly stiffened. Suddenly, he said, "Stop the car."
Chris pulled over slowly, looking at Mr. Foley with confusion.
"Take Miss Berry home. I'll take a taxi to the company." He grabbed his files and walked away, leaving Abbie stunned and hurt.
"Kelvin!" She tried to grab his sleeve, but only touched the cold fabric. He heartlessly closed the car door, his deep-set eyes devoid of emotion. "I need some time alone. Chris will take you back."
"Yes, Mr. Foley," she replied.
Abbie leaned against the car window, so angry she was close to tears. The promotional text ("Search the FindNovel.net website on Google") has been removed as it is not part of the narrative.
