Chapter 35: Getting Angry

George was about to be driven crazy. Was the issue her appearance, or the damning reports he'd seen? The Lawrence family's gold-digging daughter, who'd married Kelvin and extracted 100 million from the Foley family, had immediately fawned over Benson after her divorce. Furthermore, the report indicated she'd been fickle in love and sexually active with multiple men during high school.

Malaya approached, swaying her hips, and patted George's shoulder. "Honey, don't be anxious. I believe Cheyenne isn't that type. The newspaper is probably mistaken."

George glared at Cheyenne, his anger escalating. "Absolutely not! Look at this picture!"

Cheyenne chuckled softly. "Technology is advanced; it could be photoshopped." She added, "Even if I had many boyfriends in high school, I never neglected my studies."

Malaya's sarcasm wasn't lost on George. He thought, Does she think I had multiple boyfriends? Never neglecting studies… everyone knew I was the most notorious girl in high school! Fighting, skipping class, being late, sleeping during exams—my grades were always second-to-last. But I got into college, and people assumed it was because of my family's wealth. They didn't know about my hidden abilities.

George's expression darkened. Sean, having just arrived home, whistled at Cheyenne. "A classmate even asked if the woman in the news was my sister!" he announced, with exaggerated flair. "I denied it, of course—said she was a distant cousin!"

Cheyenne snorted. "Focus on yourself. At least I went to college. Our family will likely have to sponsor your education!"

Sean, clearly uneasy, retorted, "I have another year. You're just at a second-tier college. What's so great about that? My Thalia's at a top university!"

Cheyenne retorted, "That's Nora, not you. I heard you're bossed around by your girlfriend, skip class to play games, and have been reprimanded by the dean." She added sarcastically, "Compared to you, I'm doing remarkably well. You're a true school celebrity! I admire your dedication!"

Their argument escalated. Finally, George shouted, "Enough! Both of you, upstairs!" They were a disgrace to the Lawrence family.
