Chapter 162
“If it weren’t for you, he wouldn’t have abandoned my baby! He wouldn’t have been so determined to have me abort the baby!” Emily shouted angrily.
“You’ve already said that he’s abandoned your baby! You just think that I’m a pushover, so you’re hurting me. You don’t dare do anything to Samson,” said Olivia. She was in despair and cared deeply about her baby. Now, she felt a pain in her belly. Being an obstetrician, she knew the blow had already hurt her baby. She was afraid she would lose her child.
Emily said, “I’m going to…”
The man grabbed Emily, interrupting her. He said firmly, “Enough. At least get the money first. I’m not kidnapping this woman with you for fun! I want money!”
Emily calmed down slightly and glared at Olivia fiercely. She would not let Olivia’s baby go unpunished. Emily had lost her baby, and she would make Olivia’s pay for it. Since Samson loved Olivia and their baby, Emily intended to kill the child he loved, giving him a taste of his own loss.
The search for Olivia had spread throughout the city, but there was still no news. Spike believed the kidnappers had likely left the city with Olivia. Someone had discovered the kidnappers’ car had left the city from the north, confirming Spike’s suspicion.
Everyone was sent to the north of the city for a thorough search. The money was ready—20 million dollars in cash—with Samson. He was waiting for Emily’s call.
Finally, his phone rang. Emily instructed him to drive alone to deliver the money. Samson intended to stall, buying time to locate her. Emily was obviously wary and quickly hung up. The location given to Samson wasn't north of the city at all, but west.
“They must be intentionally trying to mislead us. Continue searching in the north of the city!” Spike quickly decided.
Samson set off with the money and delivered it to the address Emily provided.
It was late at night. Elvira paced impatiently, unable to stop. She worried about Olivia, especially since she had been kidnapped while pregnant. Zach hugged her comfortingly. “Sit and rest for a while, or you’ll be exhausted.”
“I’m fine,” Elvira said, but she wasn’t in the mood to rest.
Cole bought some food. “Eat some. It takes strength to find her.”
Zach also urged Elvira to eat. She had no appetite, but seeing their worried faces, she took a few bites. She couldn't stay; she wanted to go north to look for Olivia personally. Zach and Cole followed to assist her. They hoped that with so many people searching, they might find Olivia.
Olivia knew she couldn't sit and wait for death. After the pain in her belly subsided, she surveyed the room. Both kidnappers were gone. Olivia spotted a rusty piece of metal. She struggled to crawl to it and retrieve the blade. Ignoring the cut on her hand, she desperately began to saw through the rope binding her wrists.
Perhaps because she was thin and weak, the rope wasn’t thick. Olivia quickly cut it. After freeing her hands, she quickly cut the rope around her ankles. Overcome with nervousness, she was sweating profusely. Regaining her freedom, she disregarded the pain and quickly went to the window, pushing it open. Looking down, she saw she was on the second floor. She heard footsteps approaching and, without hesitation, jumped.
The moment Olivia landed, she felt a sharp pain in her ankles. Without delay, she ran into the forest behind the house.
Emily was still angry. She had to kill Olivia’s baby. However, when Emily opened the door and saw the bloodstains and ropes on the floor, she immediately shouted, “She ran away! Go after her now!”
A violent noise came from outside. The man had fallen. When Emily went out and saw this, she was so furious her eyes widened. She wanted to chase Olivia, but the man blocked the doorway.
While they were delayed, Olivia had already escaped into the depths of the forest. Behind the house was a mountain. Olivia didn’t dare stop, fearing recapture. She ran for a long time before stopping to lean against a tree, panting heavily. She was relieved when she could no longer hear anyone pursuing her; the forest made it harder to track her.
This forest was dense; one could easily get lost. However, Olivia faced a new problem: escape was one thing, but how would she contact someone? Without help, she would likely die there.
Olivia refused to despair. She had escaped the kidnappers, so she felt safe. After resting, Olivia got up and continued walking, alternating walking with rests. Night fell, and the mountain air was bitterly cold. She shivered uncontrollably.
Spike finally arrived with his men to capture the two kidnappers. They hadn’t found Olivia and were returning when they were captured by Spike’s men. After being beaten, Emily and the man confessed everything. When Spike learned Olivia had escaped to the mountain, he immediately sent his men to search.
At the same time, Samson received the news and drove frantically to the area. Zach organized his men to secure helicopters to search the mountain for Olivia.
Just before Olivia fainted from the cold, she was found. The helicopter rushed her to the hospital. After arriving, she was taken to the operating room. Ultimately, she lost the baby. Fortunately, Olivia would recover.
Samson looked at Olivia being wheeled out of the operating room, half her face covered in gauze. He broke down, devastated. Learning about the loss of the baby made him feel even worse.
Elvira was also very sad. She stayed with Olivia, refusing to leave. Zach accompanied her; Cole went home. Outside the ward, everyone felt terrible. No one had expected such an accident. Zach and Spike worried about Samson; Olivia's suffering was directly caused by him, and they didn't know how she would react when she woke up.
Elvira hated Samson. Even before, she had felt he wasn’t good enough for Olivia. This tragedy proved her right. She couldn’t believe he’d let Olivia suffer so. Olivia’s baby was gone; Elvira just wanted to vent her rage. She wished she could beat Samson up, but Zach held her back and calmed her.
Spike, on the other hand, was outwardly emotionless, but he was also upset. He and Samson were close friends. With Olivia having lost her baby because of Samson, Spike felt terrible.
