Chapter 183

“Cole, you finally woke up.” When Elvira realized Cole had awakened, she excitedly leaned over to see if he had become a fool, as the doctor had suggested.

“I’ll kill you.” Cole suddenly reached out and grabbed Elvira by the neck, his grip so tight that she coughed.

“C–Cole, let go! What’s wrong with you?” Elvira grabbed his hand, hoping he would release her.

Cole fixed his eyes on Elvira. Elvira thought to herself, “Oh, no! He really became a fool. He doesn’t even recognize me. Moreover, he’s strangling me so hard that I can’t break free from his tightening grip.”

Cole’s eyes slowly began to focus. When he realized it was Elvira, he suddenly let go, as if shocked.

Elvira, weak from the ordeal, fell onto the hospital bed when Cole loosened his grip. She covered her neck and coughed as she looked at him.

Cole suddenly covered his head. Many memories flooded his mind: the castle, his parents, stepmother, younger brother, grandparents, and numerous servants… Then, the terrifying scene on the cruise ship, his stepmother, and him being pushed into the sea…

“Doctor, doctor, Cole is awake. Come and see what’s wrong with him!” Elvira quickly called for the doctor.

Soon, the medical staff arrived. Cole slowly calmed down. He felt a splitting headache and looked at Elvira worriedly. “Are you alright? I’m sorry.”

“I’m fine. You didn’t become a fool, did you?” Elvira looked at him in surprise. When he’d suddenly gone crazy, she’d thought something was seriously wrong with his brain. Judging from his appearance now, however, he seemed fine.

Elvira wondered what had been wrong with him.

The doctor examined Cole and confirmed he was fine. He wanted to take Cole for a brain checkup, but Cole refused, insisting he was fine and sober.

Seeing this, the doctor didn’t force the issue, simply saying Cole would be fine since he’d woken up, and to come for a checkup if he felt unwell.

After everyone left, Elvira remained worried. “Are you really alright?”

Cole looked at the complicated emotions in her eyes and shook his head. “I’m fine. I’m sorry for scaring you just now.”

“Not really. I know you wouldn’t hurt me. You should rest well. Don’t go to work for the time being. You’ve been busy for so many years and haven’t given yourself a break. Take it as a vacation this time,” Elvira advised. Cole worked desperately; overtime was his daily routine. Ever since the company was established, he had never truly rested.

“No, thanks. I don’t need to rest. I have to go back to the company now,” Cole said, lifting the covers and preparing to get out of bed.

“No! You have to rest! Look at your injuries!” Elvira became anxious as Cole insisted on returning to work.

“I… I want to be alone, okay?” Cole looked at her and asked. He needed to recollect his memories. Although he’d recovered a portion of them, many things remained unrecalled. He needed peace to continue the process.

“Alright, then you can stay in the hospital alone. I’ll go buy some food for you,” Elvira said, looking at him suspiciously. She felt he was hiding something, but since he didn’t want to tell her, she wouldn’t press him.

Cole thanked her. Elvira was speechless; she didn’t think he needed to do that. She went out to buy food. After Elvira left, Cole sat in a daze. More memories surfaced. He finally remembered who he was.

In the sewers, Jayden sat in the deepest part. There were many supplies near him. Rats scurried around. After the arson yesterday, he hadn't left Jersten immediately because he knew that leaving now would make it easier for those people to catch him. How could he escape Zach’s men? He was playing a trick on them. His hiding place was less than a thousand meters from the arson site. Those people would never have dreamed he would stay here.

Jayden’s phone rang. It was Amber. He picked it up. “What’s the matter?”

Amber, locked in the restroom, whispered, “I heard Elvira isn’t dead.” She was also a little afraid. If Jayden was caught by Zach, there would be huge trouble.

“That woman is really lucky. No wonder our daughter can’t beat her. Don’t worry. Since I can hurt her once, I can do it again,” Jayden frowned, taking a sip of wine.

“That’s not the most important thing. Where are you now? You can’t be caught by Zach. Once you are caught, Judy and I will be done,” Amber said anxiously.

“Don’t worry. They won’t be able to catch me. Even if they do, I won’t expose you and my daughter, even if I have to die,” Jayden said coldly.

Amber was still worried but didn’t dare provoke him. She could only remind him to hide carefully and avoid capture.

Jayden said impatiently, “Got it,” and hung up.

A sudden knock almost gave Amber a heart attack. She opened the door angrily to find a servant preparing to clean. She scolded and slammed the door. “Couldn’t you see the door was locked? Why are you still knocking? What are you up to? You bitch!”

The servant, beaten and crying, rushed out. Amber sprained her ankle chasing after her, causing her significant pain. She shouted for someone to send her to the hospital.

Spike searched for Jayden for two days and nights without finding any clues. Jayden seemed to have vanished without a trace. Spike found the man too strange. He’d used thousands of people in the search, yet still, nothing.

Jayden’s identity information was fake. It seemed he’d even had cosmetic surgery. Spike even discovered Jayden had been recommended for the job by another security guard. The person who introduced the arsonist only took two hundred dollars and knew nothing about his background. The lead was cut off.

Zach told Elvira what Spike had discovered. Elvira instinctively felt it was connected to Amber and her daughter. However, Zach’s investigation hadn’t yielded any valuable information.

Elvira was puzzled. Amber and her daughter couldn’t have conjured such a person out of thin air to kill her, could they? Where did that person come from?

Zach ordered someone to continue investigating. At the same time, since Elvira’s company had burned down, he’d already ordered a floor emptied overnight for her to move her company into Gilbert Group. For safety, he chose the 15th floor—the highest the fire escape ladder reached. Because Cole had saved Elvira, Zach’s impression of him had changed. He even got someone to prepare a luxurious office for Cole, as lavish as his own.
