Chapter 76

“I’m talking to you about the divorce. Why are you bringing your uncle into this?” Celeste questioned.

Damien abruptly rose to his feet, walked around the coffee table, and came to her side. He placed both hands on the back of the couch behind her and knelt on one knee, trapping Celeste between his arms. The sudden closeness caused her brows to wrinkle slightly. “What are you doing, getting so close to me suddenly?”

His voice lowered. “I heard that you two hugged.”

Her frown deepened when she heard this. She couldn’t figure out how he’d even noticed.

Celeste’s expression clouded. She snapped, “Did you have someone follow me?”

“Answer my question! Why are you and Uncle Adrian so close?”

Damien grabbed her chin and forced her to look up. “I nearly stumbled on the steps, and Mr. Wrenford caught me—nothing more. How did that turn into us hugging by the time it reached you?” She slapped his hand away as she mockingly smirked.

“Next time, tell your people to watch more carefully. I don’t care about gossip, but if this nonsense reaches your uncle’s ears, he may not find it funny.”

Damien’s lashes trembled slightly. She wasn’t wrong. Adrian hated being slandered most of all.

Celeste got up from the couch, and Damien did as well. “If you don’t want to sign the documents, I don’t mind wasting time with you. But as far as I’m concerned, we’re already divorced. From today on, we’re out of each other’s lives. Please ask your people to stop watching me.”

Her voice was icy, and the corners of her eyes were sharp with steely determination.

As she turned to leave, Damien grabbed her wrist and warned, “If I find out that something’s going on with Uncle Adrian, I won’t be kind to you!”

Celeste’s heart skipped a beat when she heard his threat. She hadn’t planned anything like that, but he had given her an idea. She figured that if she needed protection, Adrian might be an excellent choice. After all, Damien crossed the line first. So, why couldn’t she?

“I’m already divorcing you. Why do you still care about what I do?” She smiled faintly. “I’m no longer your wife. To me, Adrian is a man, like any other.”

When Damien heard this, fury flashed in his eyes. “Celeste, do you know what you’re saying? That’s my uncle!”

“Right. He’s your uncle. Not mine.” She shrugged off his hand, and her grin turned colder by the second.

For the first time, he noticed a sensual charm about her. As she walked away, he asked, “When did you become so wild?”

Celeste froze as soon as she heard that word. That was the first time he used that term to describe her.

“Say whatever you want.” Celeste flashed a mocking smile full of contempt.

After leaving Wrenford Corporation, she stood at the entrance of the building and lingered for a long time, lost in thought. Eventually, she took out her phone and texted Adrian. “Do you have time tonight, Mr. Wrenford?”
