Chapter 86
Maltida remarked, “I’ve heard from Annie for a long time that your medical skills are exceptional. Now that I’ve seen it for myself, I can say that you’re even more impressive than those veteran traditional medicine practitioners!”
Celeste replied, “You’re too kind. Saving lives and healing the sick is a doctor’s duty.”
“You really are beautiful inside and out!”
Celeste couldn’t help but smile slightly upon hearing the praise.
Standing nearby, Rowan chimed in, “Indeed! She’s perfect in every way. I wonder which lucky guy gets to marry someone as amazing as Ms. Celeste.”
Celeste shot him a sidelong glance and offered a faint smile. “Stop messing around.”
Rowan grinned at her, then leaned in a little closer to look at her prescription list.
Meanwhile, a dark gaze watched this exchange.
After Matilda left, Celeste immediately found herself under the weight of a brooding stare. Damien was walking slowly toward her from the doorway.
Celeste glanced at him briefly, then quickly looked away.
When Damien entered the room, Rowan, who was standing at the cashier counter, instinctively asked, “Sir, are you here for a consultation?”
Damien turned his head toward Rowan. Standing at six feet one, it was clear that Rowan was an extraordinarily handsome man, even with a mask on.
Rowan couldn’t help but glance at Damien a few more times after noticing his silence. Damien was dressed in a sleek black suit that exuded an air of refinement. He was clearly from an influential family.
“Sir?” Rowan called out again when Damien still didn’t respond.
However, Damien quickly stepped forward and grabbed Celeste’s arm firmly. “You had this huge thing going on and didn’t even tell me?”
Celeste immediately stopped in her tracks, turning to face him. “What does this have to do with you? Do I really need to tell you?”
“You’re opening a clinic with my money. Why wouldn’t I inquire about it?”
Celeste’s expression quickly darkened as she shook off his hand. “How many times do I need to correct you on this? You bought the guardian gargoyles I carved with your own money, and since it ended up in my pocket, it’s my money now!”
Damien’s voice was cold as he countered, “Who sent the floral arrangements at the entrance? You don’t seem to have many friends, so who’s so generous as to send that many of them?”
Celeste wasn’t interested in engaging with him. “Why don’t you go pick up your child if you’re so bored? He should be out of school by now.”
“Stop having some mistress pick him up instead. People might start thinking I’m dead!”
Rowan was left wide-eyed at these words. It took him a few seconds to piece together the vague hints from their conversation. Damien was likely Celeste’s husband, and they had a son together. Apparently, he was also seeing other women.
Rowan hadn’t expected Celeste’s family background to be this complicated. He was reminded of the saying about how good women could never seem to find good men.
“Celeste, do you really have to talk like that?” Damien’s eyes were filled with a chilling coldness.
Celeste merely gave him a disinterested glance before turning her attention to Rowan. “Rowan, can you check if this gentleman has lost his mind? If not, please help me escort him out.”
