Chapter 93
Everyone turned their heads at the sound, instinctively looking in the direction of the noise. Celeste followed their gazes and looked ahead. There, through the crowd, she saw a familiar figure slowly approaching under the watchful eyes of everyone.
The man was dressed in a black suit, his strikingly handsome face almost devoid of expression, save for an air of indifference. His presence radiated a chilling aura, causing the crowd around him to part and clear a path instinctively.
Celeste’s hand, holding the pen, paused briefly. She hadn’t expected Adrian to show up. Annie followed behind him, swiftly approaching the consultation table.
“Yes! Our clinic has surveillance cameras. We can just pull up the footage to see what happened.” Rowan nodded in agreement with Adrian’s words, his gaze settling on Celeste.
Celeste quickly withdrew her gaze from him and focused on Zander. Her expression turned grave as she addressed him directly. “That day, Dr. Moss and I told you over and over not to eat seafood. It’s obvious your condition now is from eating it, and not just a little, but a lot.”
Betsy’s expression darkened, her voice dropping to a dangerously low tone. “What are you implying? Are you accusing my son of deliberately eating seafood in large amounts?” Her words echoed through the room, sending a wave of shocked murmurs through the crowd.
“Mom! Stop saying nonsense!” Zander quickly cut her off, a cold look flashing in his eyes.
“I don’t know if it was intentional, but I do know that he ate a large amount of seafood after I had specifically warned him. From that, it’s safe to infer that the chances of it being ‘intentional’ are very high.” A chilling aura filled Celeste’s eyes, her gaze turning as cold as ice.
Adrian walked to the consultation table and placed one hand on its edge while the other rested on Zander’s shoulder. He glanced down at Zander, his voice calm but low. “Did you come here deliberately to stir up trouble?”
“I didn’t! I didn’t cause any trouble. I just might have forgotten…” Zander seemed to recognize Adrian, and his eyes flickered with a faint sense of fear.
“You’re already stirring up drama on their first day? What kind of grudge do you have against Ms. Morin?” Adrian’s hand on Zander’s shoulder tightened suddenly.
“Sir, my son didn’t cause any trouble! It’s because they failed to warn him properly. I’m sure of it!” Betsy insisted, her sharp gaze now fixed on Celeste with fierce intensity.
“Go.” Adrian’s eyes instinctively flicked toward Rowan. “Get the surveillance footage.” His voice was low, his gaze narrowed, and there was a faint trace of crimson in the corners of his eyes.
Rowan quickly nodded. “Got it.”
A buzz of whispered conversations spread through the crowd.
“Could it really be intentional?” “Who gave him the order?” “The results aren’t even in yet. How do we know who’s at fault?” “I think that the doctor’s skills are questionable. She looks so young. What kind of expertise could she possibly have?”
The chatter continued around them, relentless and unyielding. Celeste ignored it, her focus solely on the screen in front of her as Rowan navigated the surveillance footage. Annie and Matilda quickly stood behind Celeste, their attention fixed on the monitor as well.
Meanwhile, Adrian’s gaze remained locked with Zander’s, their eyes meeting in a tense, silent standoff. There was a flicker of fear in Zander’s eyes. It was just a brief flash, but it didn’t escape Adrian’s notice.
