Chapter 101

I looked between my mother and Carl. โ€œYeah. It is.โ€

โ€œHave you settled in and started on anything?โ€

I laughed. โ€œI have been home for less than a day. Iโ€™ve just been focused on cleaning my room.โ€

โ€œRemoving the rest of the old scent, I assume?โ€

โ€œYeah. The Alpha and his son met me at the house as soon as I arrived back home.โ€ He laughed.

โ€œWhat a joke. They tried to catch you as soon as you got back.โ€ His voice grew serious. โ€œCarl, Iโ€™ll have everything ready for you.โ€

โ€œDaddy?โ€

โ€œYeah?โ€

โ€œHow fast can the plane get back here?โ€

โ€œOne second, we might be in luck.โ€ I heard him put his cell down and pick up his desk phone. โ€œRonnie, where are you right now?โ€

There was silence. โ€œHow long until you two make it to the plane?โ€ There were a few uh-huhs, and then my dad said something that settled my stomach. โ€œNo, I need you to wait at the airport. Amy is sending two people to meet you. You remember Gavin? Yeah, him and his little girl. Should be quick, but just in case there is any delay, I need you to wait there for them. Thanks, man.โ€ My dad hung up the receiver and picked up his phone. โ€œYou heard all that, baby?โ€

โ€œYeah, daddy.โ€ I looked at Carl and he nodded.

โ€œThank you, Gavin.โ€ Carl kissed Carly.

โ€œNo thanks needed. Iโ€™ll talk to you later, pup.โ€ My dad said his goodbyes, but then he stopped. โ€œHowโ€™s your mom?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s okay.โ€ I looked over at her and she turned to look at the phone, surprised.

โ€œGoddess, I miss her.โ€ His voice was quiet. โ€œI love you both, pup. Never question it.โ€

โ€œI know, daddy. I love you too.โ€ I hung up without meeting her eyes. I turned to the two shamans. โ€œLeave quickly.โ€

โ€œWhat do you mean?โ€

โ€œYou raised Vinceโ€™s suspicion.โ€ I was sure of it.

โ€œIf he thinks youโ€™re hiding something, he will chase you like a dog with a bone.โ€ My mother nodded along with me. โ€œSheโ€™s right. You made too big of a deal with Brandon coming back here to say goodbye to Amy.โ€ She looked at me. โ€œHe will be organizing a hunt for you, if I could guess.โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t even go home. You are far enough off pack lands. You will have a head start to get to the airport and to Ronnie.โ€ I slipped my phone into my pocket. โ€œTake my number in case something goes wrong and I can reach Ronnie for you.โ€ I rattled off my number.

โ€œBut we need our clothes.โ€ Carl started, but Carly reached up and tapped his cheek with her small little hand.

โ€œWe canโ€™t go back, daddy. They are already there.โ€ We all looked down at Carly, and her eyes were clouded over again. โ€œThey are right. He is coming for us. He thinks you were hiding a pregnant mate. And he is desperate to get his hands on a child of the shaman. Little does he know she is already here. The first child of the nine-hundred-year-old shaman. A foot unlike any has seen before.โ€ She turned to me, her eyes still white. โ€œThree-spirited shifter, you will be in danger soon. Follow the path your father has set out for you, but stay smart with your choices. Otherwise, all will be lost. The shaman child isnโ€™t the only one that will turn the tide in this war.โ€

My mother gasped. โ€œWar?โ€

We both turned to her, and I watched her pale. โ€œThere is so much you donโ€™t know, Luna.โ€ Carly faced me with her power still riding her. โ€œBut you will explain at the proper time. They must reunite.โ€

I nodded and her eyes cleared. I felt the kick in my gut. Something was coming. โ€œGo now. Or you wonโ€™t make it out of here.โ€

Carl nodded and headed out of the back door, not even locking up the store. โ€œCome on, baby. We should go too.โ€ I nodded as we walked toward the front of the store. My mom cut her eyes to me. โ€œDoes your father say stuff like that to you a lot?โ€ She tried to act like it didnโ€™t matter, but smirked.

โ€œEvery time we talk. He wants me to know he misses and loves me.โ€ I played stupid, and she scowled but pushed the back door. I grabbed a spray bottle as we passed the rack and we walked out. โ€œShould we lock it?โ€

My mother turned back to me and jingled her keys. โ€œI have the spare.โ€ She smiled and locked up.

โ€œNow where to?โ€

โ€œPizza.โ€ My mom headed to the car.

โ€œRight. Pizza.โ€ It feels like itโ€™s been days since we ordered the pizza. So much has happened in the short time that my entire world shifted.
