Chapter 119

I woke up with my grandmotherโ€™s words in the air. โ€œThe first werewolf and witch created the same night. The fates intertwined our lines, and both goddess blessings run through our veins.โ€

I woke up groggy, as if what I dreamt of was something I actually did, instead of a dream I had. I rolled over and the bed was empty.

I got out of bed and checked my phone. It was seven in the morning the next day. I slept over twenty-four hours. I stood and stretched. Then I went into my bathroom and took a shower.

I walked to my closet and realized my clothes were clean and hung up. The scenting spray lingered in the air, and it was like the room was a vacuum of smells. Or lack of smells.

I grabbed some clothes and got dressed. I did my morning routine and then walked down the stairs, not sure what to expect.

I walked into the dining room to find Shannon and Morgan waiting at the table, but my mother was nowhere to be found. I looked around and found her outside on the porch, sipping on a coffee. โ€œMom?โ€

โ€œOh, hi baby. I was wondering when you were going to wake up.โ€

โ€œWhen did you wake up?โ€ I slid the door shut and walked over to where she was sitting on the stairs and sat next to her.

โ€œYesterday afternoon.โ€

โ€œWhy didnโ€™t you wake me?โ€

โ€œI tried, baby, but you were out cold.โ€ She looked at me, and she had this look. โ€œI thought you might need the sleep.โ€

I just nodded. โ€œYeah, I had a very interesting dream.โ€ I smiled and leaned my head on her shoulder. โ€œMorgan and Shannon are sitting at the table.โ€

โ€œI know.โ€ Her words were stiff.

โ€œWhy?โ€

โ€œThey are hoping or waiting for me to cave.โ€

โ€œCave?โ€ I seemed to have missed quite a lot.

โ€œThey think this is just a phase. That I will get over the two of them ruining our run.โ€

โ€œThe two of them? What did Shannon do?โ€

My mother threw her head back and laughed. โ€œOne of the reasons Morgan was so desperate to get me backโ€ฆ Shannon didnโ€™t want to eat the pizza and they felt we had run long enough. They wanted me to cook them a late dinner.โ€

She looked at me, and I wanted to roll my eyes. โ€œYou have to be kidding me?โ€

She shook her head. โ€œSo now they can cook their own damn meals.โ€ She shook her head and took a sip of her coffee. โ€œThey think sitting there looking like lost puppies will make me change my mind.โ€ I laughed, but then stood.

โ€œWhere are you going?โ€

โ€œTo make breakfast before I head to university to pick my major. Hopefully, there is still room in the course I want.โ€

โ€œAbsolutely not.โ€ She pushed off the deck and wrapped me up in her arms. โ€œIโ€™m still your mom and I will cook for you.โ€ I smiled at her and she nodded towards the door. โ€œLet's go.โ€

โ€œOkay.โ€ We walked in and she went directly into the kitchen as I sat down at the table. Within a minute, my mother was bringing me a cup of coffee. โ€œThanks, Mom.โ€

โ€œWhat do you want for breakfast, my love?โ€

โ€œCan I get waffles and bacon?โ€ I smiled up at her, picking Shannonโ€™s and Morganโ€™s favorite foods.

She smiled and poked my side. โ€œOf course.โ€

โ€œAinsley?โ€ Morgan tried to call to her, but she just rolled her eyes as she faced me and turned and went back into the kitchen.

โ€œHello?โ€ Shannon called out, but my mother ignored them both. I waited and scrolled through my phone while I sipped my coffee.

โ€œTalk to your mother, Amy.โ€ Morganโ€™s words were tight, and I barely looked up from my phone.

โ€œNo.โ€ I tossed out and kept scrolling. Shannon growled softly and I let it go. They werenโ€™t used to not getting their way, and it would take a few days to sit with the reality.

โ€œYou have to talk to her.โ€ He started.

โ€œWhy?โ€ I put my phone down and my cup of coffee and gave him my full focus. โ€œWhy do I have to tell her anything?โ€

โ€œBecause.โ€

โ€œBecause why? You are her husband, yet you donโ€™t respect her. She is allowed to feel the way she is feeling because she asked for one thing. One fucking thing in your entire marriage. This past seventeen years, she has cooked for you. She has taken care of your home. Washed your clothes. She has taken care of your very ungrateful daughter. And she did so without a complaint. All she asked was that you treat her with respect, and that you keep your word. Yet, Shannon has never respected her and you broke your word for the most important day of my life. So why should I help you?โ€
