Chapter 124

My mom nodded and looked at me. โ€œYou arenโ€™t stupid with your money, but I want to make sure you have enough to do what you want.โ€ She bit her lip as she thought about it.

โ€œHow much is normally added?โ€ I turned back to Mrs. Sandlewood.

โ€œOh.โ€ She clicked a few times on her computer and then nodded. โ€œBetas or lower usually load between twenty-five to forty thousand dollars, but the Alphas usually load more.โ€

โ€œWhy?โ€ My mom kept counting things on her hands, and I just laughed.

โ€œWell, they have access to a few specialized clubs on campus. Plusโ€ฆโ€ Mrs. Sandlewood trailed off.

โ€œWhat is it?โ€ I prompted her to finish her thought.

She lowered her voice and leaned in. โ€œIt really depends on the Alpha. Some blow through their money quickly at the clubs.โ€

โ€œYou mentioned them. What are they?โ€

โ€œThere are a few sports bars and one dance club. Only ranked wolves can get in, but Alphas have a VIP section, and it costs more. The flashier ones spend their money there. Then the others, they are more respectful and sponsor kids.โ€

โ€œSponsor kids?โ€

Mrs. Sandlewood kind of sighed. โ€œSome of the unranked wolves donโ€™t have a lot of money, or none at all. They get jobs around campus to earn their meals.โ€

My mother covered her mouth, and I felt my face fall. โ€œBut these kids are here to study, and now they have to worry about eating?โ€ I turned to my mom, and she shook her head.

โ€œThatโ€™s horrible.โ€

โ€œI know you arenโ€™t allowed to give me the names, but are you able to see how many students have a zero balance on their cards?โ€ I pulled my phone from my pocket and dialed my father.

โ€œOf course.โ€ Mrs. Sandlewood worked for a few minutes on the computer as I called my father.

โ€œBaby?โ€ My fatherโ€™s deep voice rang out, and I watched my mother shiver next to me. โ€œIs something wrong?โ€

โ€œYeah, Dad, there is.โ€ I drew a breath. โ€œI need you to transfer me a lot of money.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ My dad chuckled. โ€œWhy?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m at the university, and we are getting ready to load my meal card.โ€

My dad burst out laughing. โ€œThey still do that bullshit.โ€ He cackled for a few more minutes, obviously proud of himself. โ€œOkay. Okay. What do you need for your meals?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s not my meals. Iโ€™m worried about daddy.โ€ I started, and he fell silent.

โ€œThere are three hundred low-ranked and unranked wolves with no money on their food cards,โ€ Mrs. Sandlewood whispered to me, and I nodded.

I covered the phone and whispered back to her. โ€œHow much does a basic meal plan cost, just three meals a day, and the cost of textbooks for a semester?โ€

She clicked a few times and then scrunched up her face. โ€œAround ten thousand dollars.โ€

Chapter 124

โ€œDaddyโ€ฆ I need three million.โ€

I listened to my father choke on whatever he was drinking. โ€œOkay, but explain.โ€ I heard my father whisper a few things to Ronnie, who also choked. He laughed again.

โ€œI just found out that lower-ranked wolves, and some of the unranked wolves, have to take jobs around the campus instead of focusing on their studies.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ My fatherโ€™s voice faltered.

โ€œYeah.โ€

โ€œWhat? Did this happen? There used to be a basic food plan included in tuition.โ€ Mrs. Sandlewoodโ€™s eyes widened as she looked away.

โ€œThe integrated food plan was removed about ten years back,โ€ she answered, and I did the math. I leaned the phone towards her and hit the speaker button to make this easier.

โ€œAlpha Vince was appointed as Dean ten years ago.โ€ My fatherโ€™s voice was dark, and I knew he was angry.

โ€œThat is correct.โ€ Mrs. Sandlewood answered, but she wouldnโ€™t meet my eye.

โ€œHow much is the basic food plan?โ€ His voice was controlled, but I knew my dad.

Mrs. Sandlewood swallowed. โ€œAbout six thousand.โ€

I pulled the phone back towards me. โ€œI asked how much the basic food plan and the textbooks per semester would work out to be, Daddy.โ€

โ€œRight, textbooks and necessities. So roughly itโ€™sโ€ฆโ€

โ€œTen thousand a person,โ€ I finished.

โ€œAnd how many are under the amount for the semester, for the entire school?โ€ His question proved he was smarter than I was.

Mrs. Sandlewood, bless her heart, shivered in fear. โ€œOne second.โ€ She worked for a few more minutes at the computer. "There are three hundred with no money, and an additional two hundred students that fall below the basic living amount."

โ€œMrsโ€ฆโ€

โ€œSandlewood,โ€ she finished.

โ€œMrs. Sandlewood, you were the secretary when I was there, werenโ€™t you?โ€

โ€œYes, Alpha, I was.โ€ She blushed, and my mother looked away with a smirk.

โ€œOkay, Mrs. Sandlewood. How much would be needed to bump everyone up to about the basic amount?โ€

She clicked a few more things, and then we all heard an audible gulp. โ€œFour million seven hundred and thirty dollars.โ€
