Chapter 124
My mom nodded and looked at me. โYou arenโt stupid with your money, but I want to make sure you have enough to do what you want.โ She bit her lip as she thought about it.
โHow much is normally added?โ I turned back to Mrs. Sandlewood.
โOh.โ She clicked a few times on her computer and then nodded. โBetas or lower usually load between twenty-five to forty thousand dollars, but the Alphas usually load more.โ
โWhy?โ My mom kept counting things on her hands, and I just laughed.
โWell, they have access to a few specialized clubs on campus. Plusโฆโ Mrs. Sandlewood trailed off.
โWhat is it?โ I prompted her to finish her thought.
She lowered her voice and leaned in. โIt really depends on the Alpha. Some blow through their money quickly at the clubs.โ
โYou mentioned them. What are they?โ
โThere are a few sports bars and one dance club. Only ranked wolves can get in, but Alphas have a VIP section, and it costs more. The flashier ones spend their money there. Then the others, they are more respectful and sponsor kids.โ
โSponsor kids?โ
Mrs. Sandlewood kind of sighed. โSome of the unranked wolves donโt have a lot of money, or none at all. They get jobs around campus to earn their meals.โ
My mother covered her mouth, and I felt my face fall. โBut these kids are here to study, and now they have to worry about eating?โ I turned to my mom, and she shook her head.
โThatโs horrible.โ
โI know you arenโt allowed to give me the names, but are you able to see how many students have a zero balance on their cards?โ I pulled my phone from my pocket and dialed my father.
โOf course.โ Mrs. Sandlewood worked for a few minutes on the computer as I called my father.
โBaby?โ My fatherโs deep voice rang out, and I watched my mother shiver next to me. โIs something wrong?โ
โYeah, Dad, there is.โ I drew a breath. โI need you to transfer me a lot of money.โ
โWhat?โ My dad chuckled. โWhy?โ
โIโm at the university, and we are getting ready to load my meal card.โ
My dad burst out laughing. โThey still do that bullshit.โ He cackled for a few more minutes, obviously proud of himself. โOkay. Okay. What do you need for your meals?โ
โItโs not my meals. Iโm worried about daddy.โ I started, and he fell silent.
โThere are three hundred low-ranked and unranked wolves with no money on their food cards,โ Mrs. Sandlewood whispered to me, and I nodded.
I covered the phone and whispered back to her. โHow much does a basic meal plan cost, just three meals a day, and the cost of textbooks for a semester?โ
She clicked a few times and then scrunched up her face. โAround ten thousand dollars.โ
Chapter 124
โDaddyโฆ I need three million.โ
I listened to my father choke on whatever he was drinking. โOkay, but explain.โ I heard my father whisper a few things to Ronnie, who also choked. He laughed again.
โI just found out that lower-ranked wolves, and some of the unranked wolves, have to take jobs around the campus instead of focusing on their studies.โ
โWhat?โ My fatherโs voice faltered.
โYeah.โ
โWhat? Did this happen? There used to be a basic food plan included in tuition.โ Mrs. Sandlewoodโs eyes widened as she looked away.
โThe integrated food plan was removed about ten years back,โ she answered, and I did the math. I leaned the phone towards her and hit the speaker button to make this easier.
โAlpha Vince was appointed as Dean ten years ago.โ My fatherโs voice was dark, and I knew he was angry.
โThat is correct.โ Mrs. Sandlewood answered, but she wouldnโt meet my eye.
โHow much is the basic food plan?โ His voice was controlled, but I knew my dad.
Mrs. Sandlewood swallowed. โAbout six thousand.โ
I pulled the phone back towards me. โI asked how much the basic food plan and the textbooks per semester would work out to be, Daddy.โ
โRight, textbooks and necessities. So roughly itโsโฆโ
โTen thousand a person,โ I finished.
โAnd how many are under the amount for the semester, for the entire school?โ His question proved he was smarter than I was.
Mrs. Sandlewood, bless her heart, shivered in fear. โOne second.โ She worked for a few more minutes at the computer. "There are three hundred with no money, and an additional two hundred students that fall below the basic living amount."
โMrsโฆโ
โSandlewood,โ she finished.
โMrs. Sandlewood, you were the secretary when I was there, werenโt you?โ
โYes, Alpha, I was.โ She blushed, and my mother looked away with a smirk.
โOkay, Mrs. Sandlewood. How much would be needed to bump everyone up to about the basic amount?โ
She clicked a few more things, and then we all heard an audible gulp. โFour million seven hundred and thirty dollars.โ
