Chapter 133
I dropped into a seat in the far back of the lecture hall. I pulled my bag onto my lap and took out my computer. Once that was booting up, I pulled out my notebook and took a sip from my coffee. I nearly moaned into my cup as the first hit of caffeine hit my bloodstream.
I waited, sipping my French vanilla cappuccino, as the rest of the class streamed in. I scrolled on my phone, waiting for the last few minutes before class was to start. Nix and Megan kept vigil, so when the male approached me, I wasnโt startled.
โExcuse me?โ His voice was deep, but Iโve heard deeper. The Kingโs voice flashed through my mind. His voice was the deepest I had ever heard. Just thinking of it had my skin breaking out in goosebumps. I regretted not bringing a sweater.
โYes.โ I looked up from my phone. The man in front of me was tall, muscular, and decent looking. His chestnut hair and chocolate eyes were warm, and he had a perfect smile. I smiled up at him and waited.
โCan I sit here?โ He pointed next to me and I shrugged.
โItโs open.โ I turned to the front of the class and slid my phone into my pocket. The man settled next to me and turned to face me.
โIโm Caleb.โ He stuck his hand out and I smirked. I shook his hand.
โAmy.โ
โWhat made you pick computer science as your major?โ He held onto my hand and I pulled it back forcefully.
โI want to help my pack. And this is a great way to make extra money from the humans.โ
Caleb smiled. โMy father said the same thing.โ
โSmart man.โ
โHe is.โ Caleb tilted his head. โYou donโt seem intimidated by me.โ
I smirked back at him. โWhy would I be? Are you trying to be intimidating?โ I watched his eye twitch.
โNo.โ He forced a laugh. โBut lower ranks feel my excess aura.โ
โWho said Iโm lower rank?โ
โI donโt feel your aura.โ
โBecause in my pack, we learn at a very young age how to keep it in.โ
He reeled back. โWhy?โ
โBecause the higher-ranked wolves donโt want the lower ranks to feel any discomfort just living their lives.โ
Caleb reeled back so hard he nearly toppled out of his chair. โSeriously?โ
โYeah.โ I scoffed. โWhy wouldnโt you want all your pack to be comfortable?โ
Caleb straightened in the chair. โI never thought of it like that. Our alpha always said to keep our power under wraps, but if our aura leaks out, so be it.โ
I shrugged. โEvery pack is different. We all have our own way of doing things.โ
Caleb opened his mouth to say something, but the door at the front of the room opened and an older man walked in. He walked to the whiteboard and grabbed a marker. โGood morning class, welcome to math one ten.โ He wrote his name on the board. โMy name is Gamma Charles. Iโm from the Aurora pack from Alaska.โ He turned to face us in the room and walked to lean against his desk. โObviously, this is a math class. Why are you in math? Who knows, but it helps with computers.โ He laughed at his own joke. โLetโs go around the room and introduce ourselves. I want your rank, your pack, and name.โ
The room was silent until he pointed to a man in the front. I looked around the room and realized I was the only woman in this class. The first man opened his mouth, but the Gamma touched his lips and curled his fingers, making him stand up. He huffed out a sigh. โGamma Cedric, Stonewall pack.โ He sat back down and then the next man went.
Over and over, we went around the room until Caleb stood. He tried to hold in his smirk as he turned to the teacher. โBeta Caleb, Cornwall pack.โ He sat down and turned expectantly to me.
Gamma Charles widened his eyes a little as his gaze settled on me. โThis is a surprise.โ
โWhat is?โ I took a sip of my coffee.
โYou. We donโt have many females in this course.โ I raised one shoulder as I stood. Everyone turned to stare at me. I cleared my throat, but Charles just smiled. โI ask for ranks, but they donโt matter here. We are all just here to learn.โ I nodded.
โIโm Amy. And my pack changes. My fatherโs pack is the Silvermoon pack and my mother settled in the Oakenfang.โ I smiled and went to sit.
โRank?โ Caleb asked. โI mean, if you have one.โ
โItโs okay.โ Charles waves his hand, dismissing me. But that kind of irked me, and Nix bristled.
โSorry.โ I smiled. โIโm an Alpha.โ I dropped into my seat as the rest of the room froze.
