Chapter 424

I went back to the stairs and hurried to my room. Then I jumped onto my bed, pulling my laptop onto my lap. I hit answer, then the next time the call rang through, the screen lit up with my fatherโ€™s face, one I havenโ€™t seen in years, and I felt the tears jump to my eyes.

โ€œDaddy,โ€ I smiled. โ€œIโ€™ve missed you so much.โ€ I wanted to be on the other side of the screen, in his arms. I felt my breathing stop for a second as his face broke into a smile.

โ€œIโ€™ve missed you too, baby girl.โ€ A black box jumped into the call. โ€œThoth. Happy you could join us.โ€ He smirked.

A deep voice chuckled, but it was warped. โ€œI was here exactly at nine, but someone was late.โ€ I couldnโ€™t see his face, but I knew he was staring at me. โ€œWhy were you late?โ€

โ€œBrandon.โ€ All three of us growled.

โ€œWhy was he there?โ€ Thoth questioned.

I rolled my eyes. โ€œHe came with flowers and a picnic. Said he wanted to โ€˜have dinnerโ€™ when in reality all he wanted to do was keep me from this call.โ€ I sighed as I sat back. I pulled my computer with me and put it on the lap table I had.

โ€œYou told him we were having this call?โ€ I snorted at Thothโ€™s accusation.

โ€œIโ€™m not stupid.โ€ I shook my head and sighed. โ€œBefore I jump into everything, I need to really lay everything out.โ€

โ€œSure, baby girl.โ€ My dad got up and shut a door. Then I heard him cast a silence spell. Nothing I said was going to get out. I looked at Thothโ€™s dark screen.

His voice came out warped and confusing to my ears. โ€œIโ€™m in the safe room you made me, Gav.โ€

My dad nodded. โ€œHeโ€™s in a safe space. No one will hear us. What about you?โ€ He looked at me and I raised my brow.

โ€œIโ€™m talking to you, whoโ€™s supposed to be dead. I already made sure I was safe.โ€ He snorted out a laugh.

โ€œWhatโ€™s on your mind, pup?โ€ My father settled back into his chair like he always did when I needed to talk to him. The simple gesture made tears spring to my eyes.

โ€œGoddess, I miss you, Daddy.โ€ My voice wavered and my dad looked away for a second.

โ€œI miss you too, pretty girl. Soon.โ€ He nodded and then gestured for me to continue.

I took a deep breath and then leveled him with a look. โ€œI know Thoth is your friend, and I want to clarify this before I put my foot in my mouth. Thoth, I consider you a close friend, but since I have never seen you in person, I need to ask this.โ€

Thoth chuckled, and my lower belly clenched. Even with his voice being warped, it was enticing. โ€œI understand.โ€

โ€œOkay.โ€ I turned back to my dad. โ€œDo you trust Thoth? And I mean really trust him, because I have secrets I have to tell you. And heโ€™s obviously going to hear everything Iโ€™m about to say.โ€

My dad paused, and I could see that he was thinking about it. Thoth cleared his throat and my dad smiled. โ€œYeah baby, I do. I might not always like the man, but I trust him. Heโ€™s good.โ€ His eyes shifted to my face. โ€œWhat do you have to tell us?โ€

I swallowed past the lump in my throat. โ€œHow much do you know about Momโ€™s family?โ€

My dadโ€™s smile dropped away. โ€œEnough.โ€ He was defensive, but I waved him off.

โ€œI wasnโ€™t asking to get your back up. I honestly want to know.โ€ I leaned into the screen. โ€œIt doesnโ€™t matter.โ€ I waved my hands.

My dad sighed. โ€œYour mother talked about her mom at the cabin. I knew who her father was, his pack, but her motherโ€™s line was more elusive.โ€ His eyes met mine. โ€œWhy?โ€

I smiled. โ€œBecauseโ€ฆ I have two wolves.โ€ There was silence for a moment.

โ€œWhat are you talking about?โ€ He sat up.

I scratched the back of my neck. โ€œWellโ€ฆโ€

โ€œThatโ€™s impossible.โ€ Thoth cut in. His disbelief was easy to hear.

โ€œBut it is.โ€ I pushed the laptop back and angled it to the side of my bed. My father leaned in.

โ€œWhat are you doing?โ€ He tried to get closer, and I chuckled.

โ€œThis.โ€ I shifted into Nix. Her black fur shifted to a dark blue in the light of my lamp.

โ€œHello.โ€ Her voice was strong, filled with power. Her golden eyes flashed as she leaned into the camera. โ€œIโ€™ve missed you.โ€

My dadโ€™s eyes flashed to Lokiโ€™s. โ€œI have missed you, pup.โ€

She tilted her head, and then we shifted again, our huge form shrinking into a normal-sized wolf. Grey and brown fur shone in the light. Grey eyes stared back at the screen. โ€œHello. Iโ€™m Megan.โ€ Her voice was softer, but held an edge. โ€œIโ€™m Amyโ€™s wolf, and even though you never knew me, I loved and missed you, Father.โ€ Her voice held a bit of hope.

Loki stared back at her, and his eyes softened. โ€œI have neglected you, pup. When I see you again, I will rectify that.โ€ He retreated.

My fatherโ€™s voice filled the screen. โ€œHello pup. If youโ€™re Amyโ€™s wolf, then who is Nix?โ€

Megan retreated, and Nix came back. She shook her black fur and smiled as she stretched out. โ€œIโ€™m her Lycan.โ€
