Chapter 425

โ€œLycan!โ€ My father shot to his feet, and there was a thud from Thothโ€™s side.

Nix stood there in all her glory. โ€œDid you not find it weird that I was almost twice the size of a normal wolf?โ€

My dad bent at his waist to look at the camera. โ€œYou are my pup. You are strong. I expected you to be big.โ€ I shifted back to my body. His eyes widened, and he pointed a finger. โ€œHow did I never notice you keep your clothes? What the hell?โ€

I laughed. โ€œItโ€™s a Lycan thing. It has nothing to do with power, or strength, like we were led to believe.โ€ I sat back down and pulled the laptop to my lap. My father dropped into the chair. โ€œAre you okay?โ€

โ€œWaitโ€ฆโ€ His eyes grew hazy for a minute. โ€œYou get your witchโ€™s power from me, and your Lycan power from your mother?โ€ His eyes snapped to mine, and I nodded. โ€œSon of a biscuit. Thatโ€™s why she never told me.โ€

โ€œWhat, why?โ€ I was confused.

My dad sat back. โ€œThe same reason my mom never told my dad that her line was the first family. He was obsessed with that stuff. My grandmother had a dalliance with a wolf and had my father, but she raised him as a witch until her wolf showed up. But he was a lone wolf, technically. My momโ€™s pack was Silvermoon. Her father commanded her to keep it a secret from my father, said he was untrustworthy to know the truth. My grandmother agreed.โ€

โ€œReally?โ€ I leaned down and put my head on my fist. I glanced at Thothโ€™s black screen and realized I hated that I didnโ€™t get to see his face. โ€œWhy?โ€

โ€œBecause she said she saw something growing in my dad. Something she didnโ€™t like. My mom was a cool woman, but she loved me in her way. But my father, he was something else.โ€ He shook his head. โ€œBut it doesnโ€™t matter. Heโ€™s dead. Good riddance.โ€

I gave my father a sad smile. โ€œThankfully, you grew to be nothing like him.โ€

He smiled back at me. โ€œMy grandmother taught me how to love properly. You have her to thank for making me the loveable man you know and love.โ€ We both laughed.

Thoth finally spoke up. โ€œYou are a wolf, witch, and Lycan hybrid?โ€

I thought for a minute, then nodded. โ€œBut it is more than that.โ€

Thoth sighed. โ€œHow?โ€

I sat back. โ€œSo, my wolf is a direct descendant of the first family, and my witchโ€™s line comes from the oldest in the area. Actually,โ€ I closed my eyes and remembered the memory. โ€œThe first family of wolves was created by the son of the witch.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ My dad cut in.

โ€œGrandmaโ€™s witch line is traced back to an ancient line that lived in the woods. There was a mother and a son. She raised him to take her place worshipping the three-faced goddess. But he was attacked by my wolves, the animals protected by the moon goddess. The wolves confused him for another and attacked, nearly killing him. The witch prayed for her goddess to save him, but she refused. The moon goddess granted him the shift as a repayment. His life was saved, but forever changed. So, our witchโ€™s line and our wolf line have been intertwined since the beginning. But my Lycan lineโ€ฆโ€ My eyes snapped open. โ€œIs descended from the goddess herself.โ€

Thoth huffed out a breath. โ€œAll Lycans descended from the goddess.โ€

I nodded. โ€œThe first Lycan was born from her blood, but my family was born from her flesh.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s impossible,โ€ Thoth cut in.

I lifted a brow. โ€œDo you know how Lycans came to be?โ€

โ€œYesโ€ฆdo you?โ€ Thoth sounded skeptical. โ€œThe actual story, not the bullshit that was taught in school.โ€

โ€œWhen the goddess was young, she saw a man in a mountain who was dying, but she was trapped in the night sky. He prayed to the moon in the sky, the last thing he could see, and she felt for him. She cut herself and allowed her blood to drip into his mouth, transforming him. Her blood changed him into the first Lycan.โ€

โ€œYeah.โ€ I heard him reposition himself. โ€œThatโ€™s actually right. But where did you hear the story from?โ€

โ€œThe goddess.โ€ I shrugged. โ€œAnd she didnโ€™t tell me. She showed me.โ€ I sat back. โ€œShe told me later about how my line came to be.โ€ I picked at my nail bed. โ€œWhen the goddess was finally strong enough to leave the sky, she came down and fell in love with one descendant of the first Lycan. She became his wife, had his pups, and then he betrayed her with another Lycan. She retreated to the sky and watched over her children. The ones she created and the ones she bore.โ€
