Chapter 444

Both my mom and Toya were silent for far too long before I looked up. Both were looking at me with their mouths dropped open. โ€œSay something,โ€ I nudged them, and they finally blinked.

Toya sat back. โ€œThat is a lot.โ€

My mother tried to smile. โ€œThat it is.โ€ She grabbed my hand. โ€œAre you sure about the heat?โ€

I nodded. โ€œBoth of them are going into heat.โ€

Toya choked on her spit. โ€œWhat do you mean, both of them are going into heat?โ€

I chuckled as I looked at her. โ€œExactly that. Last time it was only Nix and I. Megan took the heat as much as she could, but it wasnโ€™t hers. Now both of them will go into heat. And honestly, that sounds fucking terrifying. I barely survived my first heat without my mate, and that was only one wolf. How am I going to survive both?โ€

My mom wrapped her arm around me. โ€œWe have a few weeks, right?โ€

I sighed. Do we?

My wolves both looked at each other and then away. Erubus says we have less than two weeks. Possibly a week.

I laughed and then felt tears spring to my eyes. My mom looked at Toya, who threaded her fingers through mine. โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong?โ€

I looked at both of them. โ€œI have a week to a week and a half, give or take a day.โ€ I watched the words hit them, but then my mom nodded and stood. โ€œWhere are you going?โ€

โ€œTo call your dad.โ€ She looked like she was on a mission.

โ€œWhy?โ€ I looked at her, confusion and panic clear on my face.

โ€œBecause he has fucking magic, and if anyone can stop this mess from fucking happening, it should be him.โ€ She turned and stomped up the stairs. She was on a mission, and no one was going to stop her.

โ€œDo you think there is a way?โ€ Toya looked at me with hope in her eyes. โ€œTo stop your heat?โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t think so. I donโ€™t remember seeing anything that might stop it. Not even pack doctors have the resources, as far as I know.โ€ I swallowed past the lump in my throat, but Toya slid closer and wrapped her arm around me.

โ€œWe got this.โ€ She looked sure.

I laughed. โ€œDo you not remember last time?โ€

She nodded. โ€œI do. So I know Wendy and I can do this.โ€ She rubbed my shoulder. โ€œWe have done this before, and we can do it again.โ€ She pulled me into a hug. โ€œSo letโ€™s not stress about the heat. We have that handled. Now,โ€ she paused, โ€œthe Rowan thing might be a little more difficult.โ€ She pulled back to look at my face. โ€œYou tell me, what do you want? Iโ€™ll support you either way.

Thoth, Rowan, some random guy named Todd. You tell me.โ€

I laughed, really laughed, since Nix and Megan told me about the heat. โ€œJust like that?โ€ I watched her face, but she wasnโ€™t lying.

โ€œJust like that.โ€ She wiped a tear from my face. โ€œIโ€™m your best friend, Amy. Not a judge. You tell me who you love. You tell me who you want to be with, and I will one hundred percent support you.โ€ She shook her head. โ€œRowan is a good man. We have just decided he is stupid. And thatโ€™s okay.โ€ We both burst out in laughter, but then she kept talking. โ€œThoth is a good friend, and a man. If you want to pursue him to see what could be, then do it. You are not tied to anyone. You have no mate that we know of.โ€ She shrugged. โ€œWe just want you to be happy.โ€

I groaned my frustration. โ€œRowan might be my mate.โ€ I looked at her and watched her eyes widen.

โ€œWhy do you say that?โ€ She was hesitant to say anything.

I looked at her for a minute. โ€œWhy did you say it like that?โ€

She looked back towards the kitchen and then sighed. โ€œTruthfully?โ€ I nodded. โ€œBecause Wendy and I have been thinking that it only made sense that you and Rowan are mates.โ€

โ€œWhy?โ€ I pulled away completely to watch her face. โ€œAnd why didnโ€™t you tell me?โ€

She winced. โ€œSince meeting Nix, we assumed since you two are the last Lycans, you two had to be mates.โ€

โ€œBut the Lycans are alive,โ€ I cut in, but she held her hand up.

โ€œWe didnโ€™t know that at the time. And having the only two Lycans alive mate made sense. And the goddess is nothing but sensible.โ€ I nodded, but then she looked at me. โ€œAnd the reason why we didnโ€™t tell you was because you two were hitting it off. And we just assumed everything would unfold as it should.โ€ She looked away. โ€œAnd then he shattered you, and I wanted to kill him.โ€ She turned back to me. โ€œI was going to kill him.โ€

โ€œToya.โ€

But she shook her head. โ€œYou didnโ€™t see yourself at the height of your heat, Amy. If he had showed back up, I would have died trying to kill him. And I wouldโ€™ve done it happily.โ€
