Chapter 502

Thoth ripped his mask off, and my breath hitched. The pain in my ears faded as I stared at his face. "You have got to be fucking kidding me," I breathed. The room was silent except for the crackling mask and the yell that escaped his lips.

I stared at him a moment longer before my anger exploded. "You fucking bastards!" I whirled on my father, my eyes shifting, fangs dropping so fast my lip bled. I pointed in his face. "You fucking knew it was Rowan, didn't you?"

My father paled, his eyes darting between me and Rowan. "Amy..."

I turned to Ronnie. "Did you know?" Ronnie looked around the room, avoiding my gaze. I laughed, a painful, hollow sound. "Of course you did. You're his best friend." I turned back to my dad. "Any other secrets you want to fess up to, Father?" He winced at the formal address.

A new thought churned in my gut. I pulled out my phone, holding up a hand to stop my father from reaching me as I pressed the screen. The phone rang as I glared at him. "Hey baby," my mother's voice chirped. "Everything okay? How's your dad?"

"Did you know?" My voice was flat as I stared at my father.

"Baby?" My mother's voice held a worried tone. "What's wrong?"

I ignored her, repeating my question. "Did you know?"

My father winced. Rowan moved closer. "Amy, can we just talk?" His words hit me like a punch.

"What is going on?" My mother's voice was agitated. "Someone explain. Now!" Her commanding tone made several men in the room recoil.

My father closed his eyes. "Ainsley..."

"Gavin Maclean, you need to explain what's going on," my mother insisted, but I interrupted before my father could answer.

"Did you know Thoth was Rowan?" My voice remained flat, but a tiny spark of hope flickered in my chest. Please, goddess, please tell me not everyone in my life kept this from me. I heard a sharp intake of breath on the other end of the call, and I knew. I knew everyone had lied to me. I laughed, tears springing to my eyes. I shook my head. "Fuck me, I guess, eh?" I closed my eyes, a tear trembling, which only fueled my anger. I refused to cry in front of these men. Forcing my eyes open, I said, "Thank you for showing me exactly where I stand." I hung up as my mother sputtered, slipping the phone into my pocket as I turned.

"Amy, wait," my father reached for me. I unleashed my aura, holding nothing back. Everyone in the room crumpled to the ground.

"Don't fucking touch me," I growled, turning to my father, who was struggling to stay upright. Rowan surprised me; he was sweating, my power pressing against his, making his knees tremble. A small satisfaction bloomed within me. "You had no right," I said, letting him see my hurt. "He might be your kingโ€ฆ but he's my daughter. You don't get to play me like a fucking puppet and think I'll be okay with it." He winced.

"It wasn't like that."

I laughed. "That's all you got?" He stared up at me, but I was already backing away. "I did everything you wanted. I followed your plan for my career, my life; everything I gave up to be the dutiful daughter." A tear slipped out, but my aura slammed out so hard the other men pressed their faces into the carpet. Only Rowan and my father saw my tears. "I put my pain on the back burner to follow you. But this?" I waved my hand. "This is fucking bullshit." I glared at him before turning and stalking from the room.

I raced down the stairs, slamming out the front door and instantly shifting into Nix, letting her take over. She headed straight for the trees, diving under a fallen log as I heard a distant door slam. I stopped caring. I curled up against a tree in my mind, focusing on breathing.

Nix ran for a few minutes before calling back. "Someone's following our scent."

I turned to Megan. "Shut it off."
