Chapter 505

I froze. There was no way. He had to be gone. I slowly turned to look towards my bed. There, waiting patiently in the dark, was Rowan.

I groaned and spun away. Water still dripped down my skin, and now he was here. Sounds about right. โ€œWhy are you here, Rowan?โ€

โ€œI would love to tell you, Rabbit, but I canโ€™t think with you standing in front of me in a towel.โ€ I heard him move and felt the air behind me shift. He was standing behind me; I heard him draw in a breath. โ€œI canโ€™t smell you at all now.โ€ His mouth sent tiny puffs of air against my neck, sending shivers down my back. โ€œI donโ€™t like it. Even with the fake scent, it was something I had grown to love, to expect, but thisโ€ฆI hate this.โ€

I stared at the far wall. His words were soft, alluring, but the pain was still so fresh. He sniffed me again and let out a soft growl. I took a step away. โ€œIโ€™ll go get dressed.โ€ My voice was deadpan. I felt Rowan drop his head to my shoulder, causing me to stiffen. Shocks rippled down my skin. It had been so long since I felt his touch that it seemed my skin craved his. I closed my eyes and felt the dancing sparks along my skin. My body was greedy for his touch. The simple act of his head against my shoulder electrified my entire body. I wanted to moan.

โ€œPlease donโ€™t hate me. I donโ€™t think I can survive if you hate me again.โ€ His words were tiny blows to my defenses.

I forced a laugh. โ€œLetโ€™s not pretend, Rowan. You didnโ€™t even notice.โ€ I stepped away, the sparks fading as I went to the closet and pulled on some clothes. I heard a faint knock, then silence. I walked back out, expecting Cass, but she was nowhere to be seen, and Rowan sat at the edge of the bed, elbows on his knees. His head hung down, but I knew he was watching me. โ€œWhere is Cass?โ€ I looked towards the door, but I couldnโ€™t even scent her.

Rowan looked up, and his eyes made me take a step back. The need, the hunger in his gaze was raw, fully on display. โ€œI asked her to leave.โ€

I felt my anger rise. โ€œWhy?โ€ He had no right. My voice was full of agitation. โ€œWho do you think you areโ€”โ€ โ€œYour mate.โ€ His whispered words were low. If I hadnโ€™t been watching his lips, I would never have caught them.

โ€œWhat the fuck did you just say?โ€ I stumbled back.

He took a few steps toward me. โ€œI donโ€™t know anymore. Iโ€™m sorry about sending your friend away, and after we talk, I will leave. But I think itโ€™s time we actually sit down and have a conversation.โ€

I growled. โ€œYou are not my fucking boss.โ€

He smirked, and my lower stomach clenched. He might be an asshole, but goddess, was he handsome. โ€œTechnically, I am.โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ I shook my head. His stupid face distracted me.

โ€œYou said Iโ€™m not your boss.โ€ He walked slowly toward me until he stood in front of me. He leaned down, bringing his face level with mine.

โ€œI know what I said,โ€ I shot back, growling as he leaned closer. My eyes snapped to his lips as he came closer. โ€œYou donโ€™t have to repeat it.โ€

His eyes started to glow as he leaned in closer. โ€œWell, I didnโ€™t want to be misconstrued when I said this.โ€ His smirk made my stomach clench again, earning another growl from me. โ€œI technically am your boss.โ€ His eyes danced between my eyes and my lips.

I stared at him for a few seconds. My mind wasnโ€™t computing what he was saying. โ€œWhat?โ€ I leaned in a little closer without realizing it.

His smile was like a lightning strike. His eyes focused fully on my lips as he leaned in so close that our breaths mingled. โ€œYou said I wasnโ€™t your bossโ€ฆbut I am.โ€ His eyes flashed to mine. โ€œTechnically, I mean. I am the king.โ€

โ€œYes,โ€ I felt my wall slam down. โ€œYou are the king. And if I remember correctly, you are very much taken.โ€ I let my eyes shift to my wolfโ€™s. โ€œFor both our reputations, you should leave. I donโ€™t want your fiancรฉe to get the wrong idea.โ€ I snarled as his eyes grew angry. โ€œDid I hit a soft spot?โ€ I pressed in so that our skin touched. โ€œPoor King Rowan, engaged to be mated to an evil witch.โ€ I growled as he tried to pull away. My hand snapped out, and I pulled him back against me. โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong? She doesnโ€™t do it for you?โ€

Rowan growled. โ€œNoโ€ฆonly you do.โ€ Then he slammed his lips onto mine.
