Hearing her words, Gretchen wore her usual expression of hurt. Martin, still brooding over what he'd seen earlier, exploded when he heard Gwenda's words. "What's with your attitude? Gretchen just arrived, and you're grilling her. What the hell are you trying to do?"
Gwenda looked confused. When had she ever grilled anyone? She'd only been trying to understand what happened.
"Mr. Morel, please calm down!" Olivier stepped forward, putting an arm around Gwenda. He said coldly, "Gwenda was just trying to understand the situation. It's not as malicious as you think."
Seeing Olivier's arm around Gwenda's waist, Martin's anger intensified. "Her attitude was clearly hostile. What's there to explain? She should apologize. Gretchen is here now. Gwenda, apologize instantly!"
Gretchen, surprised by Martin's defense, felt a surge of joy. She didn't bother to explain, her gaze instead falling on Olivier. So, he's Gwenda's new lover, she thought. Quite handsome, but unfortunately blind. How could he like Gwenda?!
"You want me to apologize?" Gwenda sneered, about to retort when Wendy intervened. "Sir, this has nothing to do with Gwenda. Your girlfriend accused me of pushing her."
"What?" Martin's fury subsided as he stared at Gretchen. "Didn't you say"
"I never said it was my sister," Gretchen mumbled.
Martin looked embarrassed, his anger returning. "Then what's going on?"
"That girl pushed me!" Gretchen pointed accusingly at Wendy.
Wendy, calmer now, retorted, "I didn't even touch you! You knocked into me. You're deliberately trying to find fault with me!"
"I did not!" Gretchen's voice rose. "I was going to overlook it because you're young and I wasn't badly hurt, but now you're being irresponsible!"
"I'm not being irresponsible! I didn't push you!" Wendy's eyes welled up.
Gwenda reached out to comfort Wendy, but before she could confront Gretchen, a girl ran up. "I I finally found you" she gasped.
Everyone looked at her questioningly.
"Miss, who are you?" Martin asked impatiently.
"I'm a witness!" The girl produced her phone, pointing it at Gretchen. "When this woman fell, I was recording. I accidentally recorded the whole thing. Look!"
The video showed Gretchen running toward Gwenda. When Wendy suddenly quickened her pace, Gretchen slipped, bumping into Wendy before falling. The truth was revealed: Wendy hadn't pushed her; Gretchen had attempted to frame Gwenda and failed.
"I thought this woman had a bad fall, and the young lady shouldn't be blamed," the girl explained, glancing at Gretchen then Wendy. "I'm not too late, am I?"
"No, you're just in time," Gwenda smiled, then sneered at Gretchen. "If you hadn't arrived, someone might still be wrongly accused." Gretchen paled.
"Thank you," Gwenda said to the girl.
After the girl left, Gwenda turned back to Gretchen. "Gretchen Evans, how long will you keep this up? It's the same trick every time. Aren't you tired?"
"I wasn't trying to trick anyone, I just"
"Just what? You wanted to knock me down, failed, so you targeted Wendy instead?" Gwenda laughed coldly. "Such dirty tactics, and you use them repeatedly."
Gretchen started to cry. "Sis"
"Don't call me sis, I'm not your sister," Gwenda said disgustedly. Turning to Martin, she said coldly, "Mr. Morel, keep an eye on your girlfriend. This is despicable!"
Gwenda, Wendy, and Olivier left, leaving Martin and Gretchen alone.
"Why did you do that?" Martin asked, having seen the video. The truth was undeniable.
