Gwenda interrupted sharply, glaring at Martin. "Are you saying that even though Gretchen seduced you away from me, she's still a good person? And I, the victim, am supposed to forgive her?"
"That's not what I meant"
"Then what did you mean?" Gwenda's voice rose.
"Keep your voice down—" Martin looked around nervously, fearing humiliation if the neighbors saw them.
"What? You dare do it but not admit it? Martin Morel, you're an absolute scumbag!"
Martin frowned. "Hey, stop it. You weren't like this before."
Gwenda closed her eyes. Why was she arguing with a scumbag who'd slept with his fiancée's younger sister? How foolish.
Taking a deep breath, she said, "Forget it. I don't want to argue anymore. The engagement is cancelled. You two can do whatever you like, just stay away from me."
She keyed in the passcode and reached for the door. Martin stepped forward, blocking her path and grabbing her arm. "Gwenda"
"Let go!"
"Gwenda"
"Let—"
Martin was still harassing Gwenda when the door burst open. He stumbled when he was hit. They both looked up to see a tall figure standing there. He wore casual clothes and had a bandage on his arm, but his distinguished aura was undeniable. His face was cold, and hostility radiated from him as he approached. Gwenda's heart leaped. Martin was equally surprised.
Before he could react, Olivier grabbed Martin's arm, snapping it with a loud crunch. He then threw Martin aside with force.
"Ah!" Martin slammed into the wall, his ribs impacting painfully. He winced.
Holding his broken arm, he glared at Olivier. "Who who are you?"
Olivier ignored him, turning to Gwenda with concern. "Are you alright?" He then pulled her toward the door. "Let's go inside."
"Hold on! Who the hell are you?" Martin roared, enraged at being ignored. "Gwenda Evans, is this why you canceled the engagement? Because of this man? I thought I was in the wrong! You cheated on me first!"
Gwenda froze, then turned and viciously slapped Martin. "Don't you dare speculate about me with your filthy accusations! I've always been a person of integrity, unlike you!"
The slap added to Martin's pain and fury. He snarled, "Then who the hell is he? Don't tell me nothing's going on between you two!"
"It's none of your business" Gwenda began, but was cut off as Olivier pulled her into a warm embrace. He eyed Martin coldly. "I am Gwenda's future husband."
Silence fell. Gwenda and Martin stared at him. Martin was stunned, disbelief etched on his face.
"What did you say?" He thought he'd misheard. "You're Gwenda's future husband? How is that possible!?"
