When Gwenda left the hotel, she carefully looked around and found Lan's men were gone. She heaved a sigh of relief. After getting into Olivier's car, she was quiet. Seeing Olivier was also silent, Gwenda gave him a cursory glance. "Did I cause you trouble?"
"No, you did a great job," Olivier replied, turning to look at her, his eyes filled with doting affection. "I was just wondering if you suffered any grievances."
Gwenda was surprised. "You don't blame me?"
"Why should I? She provoked you first. You were perfectly justified in fighting back. Even if you made a big mistake today, I would still back you up." Olivier took it for granted.
Gwenda couldn't believe it. "You're serious?"
"Of course."
Gwenda's eyes teared up; her heart felt as if something were squeezing it. She had trouble breathing for a minute. No one had ever said anything like that to her, in her previous life or this one. She thought there would be nothing left for her but revenge after her rebirth. But who knew she would run into him? The calm Gwenda had struggled to maintain shattered.
After dropping Gwenda off at her apartment building, Olivier left only after she had gone upstairs. The ride back was quiet. As he drove, Otto tentatively asked, "Boss, I'm guessing the business deal today wasn't successful?"
"Yeah," Olivier replied in a detached manner. Even if the deal had been successful, they had dared to hurt the one he cared about; thus, the deal would have been voided anyway.
"But the Greens don't seem easy. They tried for a month to get today's meeting. I doubt they'll give up quickly."
"Then find a way to make them give up!" Olivier said flatly. When the streetlamps shone on him, his eyes were flinty with anger. Seeing Olivier's darkened face in the rearview mirror, Otto felt a chill go down his spine as he silently mourned for the Green family. Why did they provoke the one my boss cares about most? Otto thought with a quiet sigh.
Meanwhile, Laurinda had disclosed Lan's scandal online, causing a heated discussion. The hashtag "#Viral" soon trended on Twitter.
"Breaking news! Famous male singer caught cheating by wife!"
"Useless fools!" Benson Evans swept the folders off his table, roaring. "Useless fools! Take down the news! Don't you think the company's in enough trouble already?" Rubbing his injured forehead, the head of Public Relations said hesitantly, "We can't, Mr. Evans. Russell's scandal is all over the internet. We posted an announcement, but it's ineffectual."
The head of PR was at a loss. Cecilia's departure had already damaged KG Entertainment's reputation. This scandal only made matters worse.
"Did I hire you to hear your babbling? I don't care how you do it, but cover up this scandal! If you can't, you can forget about working tomorrow! Get out!" Benson angrily drove the man from his office. He slumped into his chair, red-eyed, his chest heaving violently.
A while later, Pauline Evans entered with a cup of tea. Seeing the mess, a dark look briefly crossed her face before she brought the tea to her husband.
"I made you tea, Benson. Please calm down; being angry won't help."
Seeing his wife, Benson relaxed slightly and rubbed his forehead wearily. "I don't know what's wrong with my company these days. Something keeps happening, and it's frustrating."
"Try not to dwell on it. Your health is more important." Pauline advised gently, handing him the tea.
Frowning, Benson sipped his tea. "How's Gretchen doing?"
"Fine. But Martin came over a few times and was turned away." Pauline sighed. "Benson, I know Gretchen caused this, but it's done. There's no other way to resolve this. Besides, I think Martin really cares about her. If we let things continue I'm afraid it will hurt our relations with the Morels."
"What, you still want Gretchen to marry Martin?" Benson's eyes sharpened.
Pauline bit her lip. "Or what? Gretchen's staying out of sight, but Martin keeps coming over. I can't bear to see them like this"
"Gretchen is right to stay out of sight. After all, Martin is supposed to be Gwenda's fiancé!"
