Olivier's eyebrows rose in amusement as he gazed at her. Gwenda's heart skipped a beat, and she blushed, her fiery arrogance vanishing. "You um, let go of me, please?"
"Nope. I want to know what you mean by 'your man.'"
His arm was wrapped around her waist; his breath warmed her face. Frozen, Gwenda dared not move. "I I was just talking nonsense. Please let me go?"
"Explain yourself first."
Olivier's demeanor became overbearing again. Gwenda felt resigned and helpless. "I really was just talking nonsense. Please don't take it to heart."
"Then why did you come here?" Olivier asked, raising his eyebrows, though he knew the reason.
"I came because your assistant called me," Gwenda said.
"Oh? And?" Olivier smiled, mirth dancing in his eyes.
Gwenda averted her gaze, her heart pounding. Her voice shrinking, she said, "He told me your grandmother arranged a blind date banquet for you, and asked me to help 'fix' it."
"Fix it? Fix what? My bachelor status?" Olivier teased.
Gwenda's heart quickened. So nervous, she almost forgot to breathe. "No, he wanted me to help you get rid of the blind dates."
"Right, but since you've gotten rid of them, how am I going to explain this to my grandmother?"
Gwenda was stunned. "He's right," she thought in numb disbelief, "how could I have forgotten?"
Seeing her freeze, Olivier's eyes glinted with amusement as he rubbed her back. He casually suggested, "Well, you could come home with me to deal with her."
"What?" Gwenda felt an itch at her waist and subconsciously leaned back, only to be trapped by Olivier's arm.
He gripped her chin, forcing eye contact. In a mournful tone, he said, "My grandmother has been pushing me for a while. If I haven't brought someone home, she might do something drastic. Since you're here to help, why don't you help me to the very end?"
"But but"
"No 'buts'!" Olivier cut her off. "I'm wooing you anyway. You'll be mine sooner or later, so it doesn't matter if you meet my grandmother in advance."
Gwenda was speechless. Where the hell did this guy's confidence come from? He's so certain I'll fall for him?
"You haven't made up your mind?" Olivier finally asked, gazing deeply into her eyes.
Gwenda nodded under his affectionate gaze, only realizing she'd fallen into his trap again when he chuckled. She growled angrily, "Olivier Petit, you tricked me again!"
Olivier smiled smugly. "Don't worry, my grandmother's wonderful. She only wants great-grandchildren, and as soon as possible." Gwenda's face flushed with rage as she struggled. "Can you just let go of me?"
Olivier's eyes sparkled with amusement as he released her. Gaining her freedom, Gwenda sat up straight and glared at him.
Gazing at her with a look of mock hurt, he asked, "Could you bear to let my grandmother yell at me before she sends me out on yet another blind date?"
Gwenda huffed and looked away, her rage subsiding. Seeing this, Olivier grinned and rang for the waiter. "Are you hungry? Shall we eat something?"
The waiter arrived as he spoke. Gwenda looked at Olivier out of the corner of her eye. Seeing his relaxed demeanor, she cursed him mentally. "Fcking ashole! He does this every dmned time! Tricks me and changes the subject!"*
After the food arrived, Gwenda ate little, losing her appetite. Seeing this, Olivier put down his cutlery. "Are you full?"
"Do I really have to go?" Gwenda mumbled sullenly, attempting one last escape.
"You have to pay for your mistake!" Olivier said with a straight face.
Gwenda looked more downcast than ever. She dejectedly followed him out of the hotel and into his car, which took them to the Petit Mansion. On the way, she remained silent, terribly nervous.
The car pulled up before the mansion. Gwenda followed Olivier, her anxiety peaking. "I'm meeting your grandmother for the first time. Is it bad that I didn't bring a gift?"
"You don't have to bring anything but yourself," Olivier said, taking her hand.
Gwenda instinctively tried to pull away but was stopped by Olivier's glare. "You are now my fiancée. Don't blow our cover."
Gwenda said nothing. "Alright, let's go," Olivier said, leading her into the family estate.
