Chapter 16: Su Jingwenโs Tantrum
โYouโre asking to die!โ Scarface snarled, lunging at Ye Mo. Initially, seeing Ye Moโs unyielding demeanor, Scarface, anticipating his imminent release, had sought to avoid trouble. But Ye Moโs provocation proved too much. How could Scarface, a habitual bully, tolerate such insolence? He raised his hand to strike.
The others in the room guffawed at Ye Moโs perceived folly. Several men huddled in a corner, whispering that Ye Mo was foolish to antagonize Scarface. They thought he was asking for a beating.
Their amusement quickly evaporated. The seemingly unassuming Ye Mo effortlessly seized Scarfaceโs wrist, then backhanded him several times before delivering a powerful kick to his stomach.
Scarface, despite his imposing physique, was utterly helpless. Ye Moโs kick sent him flying, crashing into the metal door with a resounding clang.
The black-faced police officer outside heard the commotion. A cold sneer played on his lips as he made a call.
โHello, Young Master Zheng? Yes, itโs me. That guyโs locked up and Scarface is โteaching him a lesson.โ Nothing to do with us. Oh, yes, yes, Iโll let him have a โgood timeโ before his trial. Iโll make him shed a layer of skinโโ Hearing noises outside, he abruptly hung up, affecting a show of duty as he approached the entrance.
Even Scarface couldn't believe his swift defeat. A veteran of the underworld, he instantly recognized Ye Mo's dangerous aura. While ferocious in appearance, he wasn't stupid. Provoking Ye Mo had been a grave error.
Ye Mo's strength was undeniable. Scarface was certain that even four men couldn't subdue him. Otherwise, he wouldn't have dared to provoke him. Ye Mo sauntered toward Scarface and stated, โI want the bed by the window. Objections?โ
Scarface's heart pounded, expecting another attack. Instead, Ye Mo's request left him relieved. โNo objections! No objections! Please, take the bed!โ He plastered on a forced smile, ignoring the pain from his collision with the door.
The other burly men remained silent, witnessing Scarface's humiliating defeat. The usually invincible Scarface was utterly defenseless. They weren't about to risk a similar fate.
As Su Jingwen approached the police station, the manโs figure increasingly resembled the person who sold her the charms. This solidified her resolve to bail him out. She was surprised, however, to find that the police refused to let her see Ye Mo.
โHeโs not a prisoner. What right do you have to refuse? What right do you have to lock him up?โ Though unaware of the details, Su Jingwen sensed something amiss. They wouldn't have taken only Ye Mo, leaving the occupants of the Range Rover untouched. (Unbeknownst to her, the Range Rover was parked outside a hospital.)
โHeโs involved in attempted robbery and assault. Weโre still recording charges. See him tomorrow,โ the black-faced officer said, tolerating her due to her refined demeanor and beauty.
โReally? Thatโs not what I saw! I saw a Range Rover take my friend away. Nothing happened to them, but my friendโs in here! Whatโs the meaning of this?โ Su Jingwen demanded.
โDonโt say things you canโt prove. This is a police station; we need evidence. Continue this, and Iโll arrest you for obstruction of justice!โ The officerโs face tightened, his tone hardening. He hadn't expected a witness.
โOh, really? Letโs see you try,โ Su Jingwenโs voice turned icy. This officer was clearly lying. The young man was likely in serious trouble.
โYou, come with me. I suspect youโre in cahoots with the robbery suspect!โ The officer pointed accusingly. Ye Moโs clothes were inexpensive; this womanโs apparent connection to him suggested insignificant background. He aimed to assert his dominance.
โAre you a cop or a thug?โ Su Jingwenโs anger flared.
โDonโt like it? Report me. My name is Huang Shu. Donโt forget it,โ he said contemptuously.
A junior officer, witnessing Huang Shuโs blatant abuse of power, intervened. โCaptain Huangโฆโ He felt Huang Shu was acting like a bandit, but dared not speak directly.
Before Huang Shu could respond, a voice boomed from the doorway: โWhen did our department become a haven for bandits?โ The voice was deep and authoritative.
โGeng Suoโฆโ Huang Shu and the junior officer recognized the arrival of their superior.
โWhatโs going on here?โ The middle-aged man surveyed the scene.
โOh, CEO Su, what a surprise,โ he quickly recognized Su Jingwen.
โGeng Xuebin? Youโre a cop now?โ Su Jingwen recognized her fatherโs former chauffeur, now seemingly a station manager, whose rapid career advancement surprised her.
โYes, by authority. What happened?โ Geng Xuebin sensed trouble. CEO Su was the daughter of Mayor Su. Mistreating her would have dire consequences.
Su Jingwen's face hardened. โMy friend was abducted, then arrested by your officers, while the abductors were released. I came to see him, only to be accused of attempted robbery! He said to report him if I didn't like it. Is this the new police standard?โ
Huang Shuโs black face paled. He hadn't expected this woman to know the station manager. While Young Master Qiaoโs protection was assured, his career would be irrevocably harmed.
โYou said that? Is that the attitude of a police officer?โ Manager Geng loathed Huang Shu, who typically acted with impunity due to his connection to Zheng Wenqiao. Framing the mayorโs daughter was unforgivable.
โI was angry, but I didnโt mean it,โ Huang Shu admitted, knowing many had heard his outburst.
Manager Geng swiftly acted, disarming Huang Shu and ordering a full investigation. โChen Zhen, take charge. Resolve this immediately! The police protect citizens, not bully and defraud them!โ He removed Huang Shu's badge.
Su Jingwen remained silent, understanding this was merely a show of appeasement. Huang Shu protested, โManager Geng, thatโs illegal. Even if you accuse me, you canโtโฆโ He assumed Geng Wenbin was merely posturing, unaware of his serious intent.
โCEO Su, letโs see your friend. Having such scum in the department is a disgrace. Iโll apologize to Mayor Su personally,โ Geng Wenbin ignored Huang Shu. Even without Su Jingwenโs incident, Huang Shuโs actions warranted a lengthy prison sentence.
โMayor Su?โ Huang Shuโs blood ran cold. He now understood Su Jingwenโs importance. Even Zheng Wenqiao couldn't save him. His heart sank.
