Qiao Gang was delighted to receive Ye Mo's call, interpreting it as an indirect means of contact. He quickly reassured Ye Mo that no one would investigate him, unaware that Ye Mo's custom-made phone, a gift from Han Zaixin, only accepted calls from pre-approved numbers.
Ye Mo hung up, sighing at the ease afforded by connections. His phone immediately rang again; it was Ye Ling.
Ye Ling's voice was anxious. Someone had called, urging her to meet Ye Mo at Wuliang Mountain. Angry, Ye Mo instructed Ye Ling to refuse any further calls of this nature, stating her unavailability for several days. He told her to remain at the Ye Family Mansion and avoid going anywhere, even school. He then called Zhang Jue.
"Instructor, I thought you'd ditched us! You haven't contacted us in ages," Zhang Jue exclaimed, his voice brimming with relief. Ye Mo, touched by Zhang Jue's evident friendship, replied seriously, "Please keep an eye on my sister for the next few days. Also, inform Li Hu about the Song Family and ask him to assign surveillance. Call me immediately if anything happens."
"Don't worry, Instructor, leave it to me," Zhang Jue assured him.
Feeling slightly relieved, Ye Mo said, "Brother Zhang, stop calling me Instructor. If we're friends, just call me Ye Mo."
"Haha, okay, I'll call you Young Master Mo from now on," Zhang Jue replied, clearly pleased by the implied brotherhood.
Ye Mo then called Li Hu, still anxious about Ye Ling's safety despite his instructions to Zhang Jue.
Observing Ye Mo's flurry of calls, Tang Beiwei remarked, "Is Ye Ling your sister? You're really good to her." A hint of bitterness tinged her voice, remembering Ye Mo's earlier harshness towards her.
Ye Mo smiled and patted her head. "You're my sister too, and I'll treat you the same. Forget about this morning; it's over and done with."
Before Tang Beiwei could protest his head-patting, she fell into a pensive silence. The thought of finally having a brother, a life free from harassment, brought tears to her eyes. Was this a dream? A pinch confirmed its reality.
"Let's go. What are you thinking about? Let's go inside," Ye Mo prompted, pulling her along.
"Now that we have money, I'll get another room," Tang Beiwei said, snapping out of her reverie.
Ye Mo waved his hand. "No need. You're staying with me tonight."
Tang Beiwei stared in shock. Their newly discovered sibling relationship seemed to complicate shared living arrangements.
Ye Mo pulled her inside, explaining in private, "If you moved tonight, people would know immediately, and my plan would fail."
"Oh..." Tang Beiwei understood but remained worried. "Brother, they have many people, and their plan is meticulous. You're alone."
Ye Mo had planned a confrontation, one unsuitable for Tang Beiwei's involvement.
"No, I want to go too. I may be a girl, but I know a few moves. I can help," Tang Beiwei insisted.
Ye Mo closed the door, feeling warmth at his sister's unexpected loyaltyโa stark contrast to her previous antagonism. Yet, he wouldn't allow her to accompany him. He knew their adversaries were confident in their ability to subdue him, indicating significant preparation. Tang Beiwei's presence would only complicate matters.
"Beiwei, do you think anyone could catch you falling from tens of meters?" Ye Mo asked, using a factual approach instead of persuasion.
Tang Beiwei's face paled; she remembered nothing of her previous fall from such a height. The question hung in the air.
Ye Mo explained, given their newfound sibling bond, "I've learned some Dao magic." Tang Beiwei's confusion was palpable; her atheistic upbringing clashed with the concept of Dao magic.
Ye Mo, recognizing the futility of further explanation, simply said, "You don't need to know now; you'll understand later. Call Wei Yongqian and tell him you've succeeded. Ask him what to do next. I need to prepare; don't disturb me."
Tang Beiwei, though bewildered, understood that a normal person couldn't catch someone falling from that height. She might indeed be a hindrance.
Ye Mo crafted a protective necklace for Tang Beiwei and then began making charms. With ample materials, he produced ten from thirty sets by 5 pm.
When Ye Mo stood, Tang Beiwei awaited him with two boxes of food.
...
Beijing Song Family.
Dongfang Xi, Song Qiming, and Song Hai huddled in a secret room. Only Dongfang Xi remained calm; Song Qiming and Song Hai were visibly anxious.
"Ye Ling says she's unavailable tomorrow and the day after. What's this? Mr. Dongfang, didn't you say Ye Ling would act as soon as she heard from Ye Mo?" Song Qiming fretted.
Song Hai interjected, "Could Ye Ling have contacted Ye Mo and learned he hadn't called her?"
Dongfang Xi remained composed. "Don't worry. Ye Mo's phone is always off. No one can reach him. I've investigated."
Song Hai suggested, "Should we try calling him?"
Dongfang Xi shook his head. "No need. Ye Ling's unavailability confirmed my findings; I tried Ye Mo's phone. It's unreachable. And even if Ye Ling doesn't go, our plan will succeed."
"How?" Song Qiming pressed.
Dongfang Xi smirked. "You'll see. Tang Beiwei just called; she succeeded and asked for further instructions. I've decided to move the plan to tonight."
Song Hai questioned, "Mr. Dongfang, why the change? We agreed on tomorrow morning."
Dongfang Xi waved his hand. "Guards are already at the auction today; I was waiting for Ye Ling. Since she can't go and claims unavailability, extra caution is needed. Everyone else is in position. To prevent further complications, we strike tonight. The key is my success, Dongfang Xi's success."
Seeing their confusion, Dongfang Xi sneered. "Song Family leader, simply watch. I promise you the most satisfying revenge. Song Hai and I will proceed to Wuliang Mountain immediately. I will show Ye Mo the consequences of crossing me."
Dongfang Xi's gaze turned to Song Qiming, laced with contempt. Song Qiming's initial concern for Tang Jin seemed performative, fading quickly. His hypocrisy suited Dongfang Xi's purposes.
Song Qiming, a mixture of excitement and fear, eagerly awaited Ye Mo's torment while simultaneously dreading the consequences of antagonizing Dongfang Xi.
...
After eating, Tang Beiwei offered, "Brother, you didn't sleep last night. I'll sleep on the couch so you can rest."
Ye Mo waved her off. "No need. I have important business tonight. You sleep; don't worry about me."
Before Tang Beiwei could respond, her phone rang. She answered, then looked at Ye Mo. "Brother, it's Wei Yongqian. I called him this afternoon, and now he's calling me."
Ye Mo instructed, "Answer it. Agree to whatever he says."
Tang Beiwei nodded and answered. Ye Mo stood beside her.
"Xiao Tang, change of plans. The client wants to proceed tonight; take Ye Mo to the location. Tomorrow, return to Tan Du and stay with your mother. You don't need to worry about anything else," Wei Yongqian stated.
Tang Beiwei replied, "Okay, I'll take him there immediately. Yes, I understand."
