Chapter 263: Don't Mess With Me

Ye Mo saw the police surrounding them and knew they had come for him, but he didn't care.

"What are you guys doing?" Hu Yang immediately asked, stepping forward.

The middle-aged police officer in front laughed and shoved Hu Yang aside. "Director Hu, I know you're a respected doctor in Tan Du, but please don't obstruct our investigation. We suspect these two of arson. Please step aside."

Pang Haixiang immediately intervened. "Officer Wu, we were under your department's protection when we arrived, and we appreciate the Tan Du police force's assistance. But accusing Doctor Ye of arson is absurd! He possesses incredible medical skills. Why would he need to resort to arson?" Regardless of Ye Mo's guilt, she wouldn't let him be harmed. Her husband's life was at stake.

Officer Wu's expression darkened. "Madam Pang, you're an important guest in Tan Du, but please don't interfere with our duties."

Pang Haixiang's face tightened, but she remained silent.

Ye Mo didn't want to escalate the situation in the hospital. Even if he were guilty of something, he didn't want a large audience. Officer Wu was clearly in league with Qian He. He wondered if the officer would remain so arrogant if he knew Ye Mo had killed Qian He and his superior.

"In that case, I'll go with you," Ye Mo said, then sneered at Officer Wu. "Sister Pang, I'll be back tomorrow night. Send your husband here. Don't worry about me; I don't need your help. I'll be on time." He added, "Your own evil deeds will be your undoing."

"Hmph, come back on time? Keep dreaming," Officer Wu sneered, shoving Tang Beiwei into the police car. His face was grim. This man's arrogance unnerved him. He knew Qian He had a powerful boss; even Chief Commissioner Liu wouldn't dare to cross him. Yet, Qian He's mansion had burned down. Even with Qian He dead, he had to make an arrest to explain to that boss.

Watching the police car drive away with Ye Mo, Pang Haixiang looked worried. Hu Yang comforted her, "Don't worry, I know Vice-Commissioner Lin of Tan Du. I'll call him."

...

The police cars sped to the station. Officer Wu and two other officers brought Ye Mo and Tang Beiwei inside. He immediately picked up the phone and reported their arrival.

"You're arrogant, but that won't last now that you're in my hands," Officer Wu said contemptuously, putting down the phone. He looked at Ye Mo as if he could crush him with a finger. Any resistance would result in immediate action.

Tang Beiwei glared hatefully at the officer. She knew he'd handled Xi Xi's case; Xi Xi hadn't escaped her fate. This officer was clearly connected to those criminals.

Ye Mo looked at the two armed officers at the door and said to Wu Zhengfei, "Is this a threat? Are you threatening me with your authority?"

"Haha… Indeed, I am threatening you as a police officer. What are you going to do about it?" Wu Zhengfei laughed.

"Nothing. If it weren't for the inconvenience it would cause Han Zaixin, I'd kill you now. I will kill you later, but first, I'll wait for a formal judgment."

Ye Mo intended to kill Wu Zhengfei, but killing a police officer, especially one with some status, would be impulsive. While proud, he wasn't arrogant enough to defy the entire country. He had relatives here and didn't want to overstep.

He was decisive in killing but not reckless. He wouldn't drag his relatives into his affairs. He doubted that the country's strongest fighters were in Flying Snow. Han Zaixin was shrewd; he wouldn't reveal the country's trump card.

Ye Mo also wondered if someone had orchestrated the massacre of his family twenty years ago, using Ou Tanhu. If the Song family could enlist a black-level tertiary-stage master like Li Mingqiang, he wouldn't doubt the country's ability to find an earth-level master. Perhaps it just hadn't been necessary yet.

A sneer sounded from the doorway. A middle-aged man entered. "You're quite bold. I, Liu Fang, have never heard anyone threaten to kill a police officer in the station."

Ye Mo wasn't lying; he had the authority to kill. If he were certain of Wu Zhengfei's crimes, he could kill him immediately.

However, mishandling this could give his rivals leverage against Han Zaixin. Han Zaixin was a good man; Ye Mo didn't want to provide ammunition to his political enemies. The timing of the killing didn't matter to him.

Hurried footsteps announced another arrival—a fat, middle-aged police officer. Seeing Liu Fang, he said, "Commissioner Liu, Ye Mo is Director Hu's friend. How could he be a suspect in the mansion fire? Was there a mistake?"

"Vice-Commissioner Lin, it's not about mistakes. I heard Ye Mo threaten to kill Wu Zhengfei. I won't doubt Wu Zhengfei's word. A criminal who threatens the police must be punished. Otherwise, how can we be responsible to the citizens? Tell me, Vice-Commissioner Lin…"

Ye Mo sneered, realizing Liu Fang and Vice-Commissioner Lin were at odds, and that Lin had likely been asked to intervene.

The fat man was speechless. He looked at Ye Mo, implying, If you say things like that publicly, how can I help you?

But he quickly composed himself. This was more complicated than he'd thought; Liu Fang wouldn't be here for a minor issue. He'd rushed in due to Hu Yang's call, but now, he wanted to understand why. Though he didn't get along with Liu Fang, he wouldn't make mistakes on critical matters.

Ring ring…

Liu Fang answered his phone. "Mayor Yu, yes, yes, I understand. We've apprehended them. Yes… I will, I will."

Hanging up, Liu Fang ignored Ye Mo and addressed Lin. "Vice-Commissioner Lin, Mayor Yu just called; this incident is extremely serious. We must act decisively. Ye Mo and Tang Beiwei are the main suspects and will be apprehended immediately. Any thoughts, Vice-Commissioner Lin?"

Lin heard Mayor Yu's involvement and knew things were dire. He felt trapped and blamed Hu Yang. He'd thought it a minor issue, but now even the mayor was involved.

Just as Lin was at a loss, Ye Mo spoke, "Vice-Commissioner Lin, thank you for speaking up. I think you might soon lose that 'vice' prefix."

Liu Fang's face turned green. "Take them away and investigate thoroughly. We need results."

Before Lin could respond, Ye Mo turned to Liu Fang. "If your investigation yields nothing, will you resort to torture? That won't be necessary; I'll conduct the interrogation myself. Open your eyes and look at this, Commissioner Lin; prepare to record."

"You're mad! Arrest him!" Liu Fang coldly ordered, gesturing for the officers to apprehend Ye Mo.

Ye Mo produced a blue booklet and waved it. "Do I have the right?"

"Flying Snow head instructor?" The title and stamp rendered Liu Fang speechless. It was genuine.

Vice-Commissioner Lin also saw it and recognized the stamp. His eyes lit up. "Oh, Instructor Ye, it's an honor to meet you, an honor." He extended his hand.

"You're… you're the Ye Mo from Beijing…" Lin San stammered, realizing Ye Mo's identity—the legendary Ye Mo.

Liu Fang's heart sank. While Ye Mo's instructor status might allow him to kill, he couldn't be involved in police crimes, especially with the mayor's direct involvement.

But the name Ye Mo, and the credentials in his hand, sent a chill down his spine. Many citizens might not know Ye Mo, but he knew—the man the Song family feared, the man who single-handedly destroyed the Ou family. Any member of the Ou family could be a mayor.

Liu Fang broke into a cold sweat. He knew his career was over. Ye Mo had been truthful; he could have easily killed Wu Zhengfei without consequence.
