Chapter 44: Lethal Trap

“Haha, don’t be hasty! Mrs. Wen, let’s discuss business first. I don’t think you’ll object,” the man said slowly.
“All right…” Wen Dong replied, her expression shifting. She turned to Ye Mo. “Open the case and let him see.”
Ye Mo saw the change in Wen Dong’s face and immediately understood she’d detected the hidden men. He didn't know how, but her reaction indicated a plan. However, he couldn't tell if she’d spotted those behind the door or those concealed behind the ping feng screens.
“Mrs. Wen, I know you’re strong, but no matter how strong you are, you'll need more than ten seconds to open the case and ready your weapon. In ten seconds, I could kill you many times. Therefore, let’s avoid impulsiveness,” the man said, sitting down and regarding Wen Dong with derision.
Ye Mo was surprised. He couldn't fathom Wen Dong's boldness in confronting the man; it was like a lamb walking into a tiger's den.
“What does this mean? What’s the significance of armed men standing behind the door? Are you trying to break the rules?” Wen Dong asked smoothly, as if discussing an unrelated matter.
“Clap, clap…” The man clapped. “Mrs. Wen, you’re as sharp as ever. But the rules are irrelevant now. Come in.”
At the man’s command, two men entered, pointing their guns at Ye Mo and Wen Dong. Unexpectedly, the four men behind the main man remained unarmed.
Ye Mo realized Wen Dong had only discovered the two men at the door, missing the pair hidden behind the ping feng screens. His spiritual sense focused on the two men's fingers. He would dodge as soon as they fired, though he wasn't sure he could evade bullets—before reaching the 3rd stage, it seemed quite risky.
Wen Dong acted as if unfazed by the guns. She produced a timer from her pocket. “If you intend to break the rules, I don’t mind us all leaving together. This case contains a gun, but also a timed bomb. It's not immensely powerful, but sufficient to level your mansion and more. I doubt you’ll question its potency.”
“Haha, Mrs. Wen, you're joking. Jiang Yan, let Mrs. Wen inspect the item. And you men, lower your weapons! Don't you know Mrs. Wen is a guest?” The man said, gesturing for the men to holster their weapons. He clearly anticipated Wen Dong's move; playing with bombs was like handling firecrackers to them.
Wen Dong opened the case as if nothing had happened. While everyone’s attention was on it, she swiftly prepared her weapon—in under ten seconds. Though not timed, Ye Mo was certain she'd been quick. Perhaps concerned about the bomb, or perhaps because he hadn't seen what Wen Dong had brought, the man’s expression shifted several times, but he didn’t order his men to fire.
However, Ye Mo knew the case held no bomb; his spiritual sense had scanned it earlier. Wen Dong had already armed her rifle and pulled Ye Mo aside. He chuckled bitterly; while they avoided exposing their backs to the men at the door, they now faced the men hidden behind the ping feng screens.
The man smirked, nodding to the accomplice holding the case.
The man opened the case, revealing approximately $1 million in US dollars.
Ye Mo cursed Wen Dong's stinginess. She’d acquired over a million, yet only paid him tens of thousands, leaving him under threat of gunfire. Nevertheless, Ye Mo also opened his case, aiming it at the man. Simultaneously, he snapped some wooden splinters from a chair, splitting them into eight pieces. He launched one, which accurately pierced the hole in the ping feng screen, killing the hidden man instantly.
No one saw his move. Imbued with chi, the splinter penetrated the man’s forehead, silencing him. Ye Mo showed no mercy to those who threatened his life.
After killing the man, Ye Mo moved toward the center for a clearer spiritual sense view. Wen Dong followed reluctantly.
The man with the money examined Ye Mo's case, while Wen Dong, gun in hand, counted some of the cash.
After inspecting the case, the man nodded.
The boss smiled. “Good. Just like that…” He turned to leave. Ye Mo's spiritual sense detected another hidden man preparing to shoot. The remaining seven splinters flew as Ye Mo pulled Wen Dong several meters away. He wondered why they weren’t afraid of the bomb; perhaps they’d used some instrument to scan Wen Dong's case. Wen Dong had been careless.
The moment the man said “okay,” Wen Dong sensed danger and raised her gun. But Ye Mo pulled her away. Confused by his actions, she reacted immediately to the gunshots. She fired back instinctively, only to find that besides the boss, everyone else was down.
The two men at the door and the four behind the boss all bled from forehead wounds. Wen Dong understood instantly; Ye Mo had killed them.
Wen Dong realized Ye Mo was extraordinary. He’d made her evade gunfire while killing at least seven men in seconds. Without Ye Mo, she could have killed six before being shot, but never dodged the shot from behind the ping feng.
God, who is he? Wen Dong thought, finding bloodstains on the ping feng. Another gunshot confirmed the presence and death of another hidden man.
Finding blood on the other ping feng sent a chill down her spine. Without Ye Mo, she would be dead. She hadn't even noticed the two hidden men. No wonder she’d felt a premonition of danger.
Footsteps approached. Ye Mo was ready to launch more splinters, but Wen Dong shot twice, ending the confrontation.
Ye Mo nodded. Wen Dong couldn’t hear the footsteps like him, but she sensed someone approaching, proving her experience. The boss stared at Wen Dong in disbelief, his face paling. He’d set a lethal trap due to Wen Dong's arrogance; instead, he’d lost all his men. He wished he'd known her bomb was fake.
“Gong Huishan, you wouldn’t kill for a mere million, would you? Or are you keeping information to yourself?” Wen Dong’s face darkened as she pointed her gun at the man.
