Chapter 560: Sister Yan Translator: Timothy Editor: GlobeGlotter
Because the woman seemed lost in nostalgia, Ye Mo broke the silence. “I got this bracelet from an antiques shop in San Francisco. Trying to find its owner, I found my way here.”
“Wait, what’s your connection to this bracelet? Why did you try to find me?” the woman suddenly asked.
“Because I have one just like it.” Ye Mo produced his bracelet.
Her excitement was evident. She took his bracelet, examining both. More tears welled up.
Ye Mo waited patiently for her to compose herself.
“Who are you?” she asked shakily.
Ye Mo sighed. “I’m Ye Mo. I’m from Beijing.”
“Yes, you’re Ye Mo! I know! Your father is Ye Cai, your mother is Ye Qingcheng. You were just learning to walk then, and now you’re so grown. I should have realized it sooner! Your eyes are exactly like his,” she murmured, taking his hand.
Ye Mo was silent. He didn’t know this woman, and when had his father become Ye Cai? He saw the heartfelt joy in her eyes, and his heart stirred. How much love must it take to look at someone like that?
She pulled him down beside her, studying him intently. The care in her eyes was unmistakable. A warmth spread through him; he’d never received such care before. Qingxue’s love was different.
“Tell Sister Yan, how have you been all these years?” She hadn’t released his hand since he’d spoken his name.
‘Sister Yan’? Confused, but not wanting to hide anything, he told her he’d been cast out of the Ye family because he didn’t remember anything.
Hearing he’d been abandoned and forced to fend for himself in Ning Hai, Sister Yan gasped, her face reddening. She stood, cursing, “Ye Wentian, you idiot, hypocrite!”
Ye Mo stared, thinking, You seem to have lived worse than me in Ning Hai, but before he could speak, she embraced him.
Though thin, she had a considerable chest. He was pressed against it, the softness making him uncomfortable, but he couldn’t easily pull away. He still didn’t know who she was. He had so many questions.
Even he couldn’t endure the beautiful woman’s embrace indefinitely. He felt flushed. Just as he was about to push her away, she seemed to remember something and released him.
Her cheeks were flushed. She cupped his face. “You’re grown and capable. I can rest easy now.”
He tried to speak, but she anticipated him, stopping him. A fiery intensity in her eyes made him uneasy. It wasn’t the gentle care of an elder, but more like a lover’s passion. He was taken aback. Though she was pretty, she must be at least forty, an elder.
After a long pause, her gaze remained unsettling. “I’ve masked my face. I want to wash it off and let you see me.”
The intimacy of the statement made him uncomfortable, but he said, “Sister Yan, I already washed it off.”
“Huh?” She snatched a mirror, seeing the makeup was gone, revealing a long-forgotten beauty. She touched her face, tears falling again.
He didn’t understand her feelings, but he knew not to interrupt.
She put down the mirror and questioned him about every detail of his life, especially Ning Qingxue, but never mentioned her own.
Confirmed he was well and needed no rescuing, she seemed reassured.
After a while, she made a decision, looking at him sweetly. “Wait here for me. I’ll be back soon.”
She left for another room. He could have used his spirit sense, but he didn’t.
After a long time, she returned with a bag containing two old books. She’d reapplied her mask. If her face were seen, it would cause a problem.
He stood, and she looked at him, the fire in her eyes replaced by melancholy, then emptiness.
Worried, he took her hand, sending over some chi. She gasped, startled by his chi.
“Can you hug me?” she asked unexpectedly.
Seeing his shock, she smiled. “I’m the closest thing to family you have. What are you embarrassed about? Just now, didn’t you—”
He smiled and hugged her. He sensed she had a reason. As he held her, she trembled. After a long moment, she pushed him away. Though flushed, she’d recovered, smiling at him. “These two books are for you. I’m going.”
“What? You’re leaving? I’ll go with you.” He knew she’d be going far.
She smiled. “My greatest wish was your safety. Since you’re fine and so powerful, my wish is fulfilled. Ye Wentian, that bastard, is dead; he’s lucky. But I still have things to attend to. I can’t go with you.”
He was stunned. He had so many unanswered questions. He didn’t even know their relationship.
“I know what you want to ask, and I’ve shown it to you. You don’t need to worry about me. I can protect myself.” Seeing his worry, she wanted to stay, but quickly dismissed the thought.
He sensed she’d cultivated ancient martial arts, but she wasn’t strong, not even yellow level. He’d checked her meridians; her cultivation method was powerful, however.
He opened his mouth, but she stopped him. “Don’t try to persuade me. I like being alone. After I leave, please look after Yin Jia and Yin Si if you can. They are siblings I found here.”
He sighed. She’d made her decision.
“Oh, and I really liked your wife’s clothes. Thank you. I have nothing to give you, but this bracelet has been with me a long time. I might have lost it, but since you found it, keep it. Well then, I’ll be going.” Her eyes reddened again.
“Wait.” He stopped her, giving her two jade bottles. “These are pills my master gave me. This is a face-preserving pill, and this is a chi-increasing pill – it will boost your power.”
Fearing disbelief, he continued, “These are as good as the lotus life pill. Oh, right, I’ll give you one more.”
She took the pills, nodding. “I’ve been away for many years, but if I hadn’t been ill, I wouldn’t be in this state. Don’t worry.”
He realized something, quickly producing a card. “There’s some money here – take it. The PIN is all 1s.”
“No, I can’t. I have savings. I know you’re not short on money, but I can’t take it.” She pushed the card back.
