Chapter 663: Big Explosion

Ye Mo initially thought heโd misheard, but a second scream confirmed his suspicion. He flew into the sky and saw a swirling blizzard forming a distant tornado. Snow cascaded from the mountain peak like a waterfall. Several people, clad in red and blue, ran and screamed, luckily remaining a safe distance from the approaching tornado.
Ye Mo was speechless. He didn't know why they were there, but he couldn't leave them to die. Just as he was about to rescue them, the tornado dissipated and the avalanche ceased. Though they were safe, Ye Mo landed and approached them.
He found six people: three men and three women. Two blue tents stood a short distance away. They stared at Ye Mo, a young man who approached them casually, carrying nothing.
"Are you guys alright?" Ye Mo asked, noticing "Beijing University" printed on their gear and tents. Their astonishment grew as they noted his thin clothing, contrasting with their own thick layers, yet he seemed unfazed by the cold.
After a moment, a round-faced girl said, "We're fine now. Do you need help?"
Ye Mo realized they thought he required assistance. He chuckled, "Since you're all fine, I'll leave. Goodbye."
"Wait," the prettiest girl stopped him, retrieving a jacket from the tent. "Did you lose your jacket? It's minus twenty degrees here. You'll freeze to death in that."
Ye Mo realized his clothing was the source of their shock. He waved his hand, "It's fine. I've trained my body; I don't mind the cold. I just heard people calling for help."
The cold, while intense, actually benefited his cultivation; the extreme chill naturally circulated his chi.
"Oh, right, it was Yi He who called. What happened, Yi He?"
The round-faced girl's words drew attention to a girl vomiting nearby. A man patted her back soothingly.
"Dead people," she cried, her eyes wide with horror. "I saw so many dead peopleโ"
Ye Mo's expression changed. He used his spirit sense, but the area was beyond its range. He wanted to fly over but decided against it in front of them.
"What dead people? Yi He, be more specific," a tall, well-built man asked.
The man comforting Yi He said, "Don't worry, talk slowly. There are plenty of people here."
Yi He drank some water, composing herself. "Halfway up the mountain, I used the telescope and saw a huge ditch, full of dead people! Sobโsobโ"
She pointed into the distance. A large snow ditch was visible, though details were obscured from the foot of the mountain.
"That's impossible; you can see that from so far away?" the tall guy frowned.
Yi He grabbed the man beside her. "It's true! I saw it! Many people, lying on top of each other. They must have been dead."
"I'll go have a look," the tall man said, picking up a telescope.
"Chen Guang, don't go there. What ifโ" the round-faced girl protested.
Ye Mo felt something was amiss. So many dead people? He thought of the annihilated submarine. Was their base nearby?
He told them, "Wait here; I'll go have a look." Seeing their worry, he added, "I'm a mountain climber, I'll be fine. I'll tell you what I find."
"Zhi Qi, that man says he's a mountain climber, but he's wearing almost nothing and has no tools. Is he for real? How can he stay here so long in such little clothing and be okay? Would he beโ" the round-faced girl's words, despite the sunlight, sent a chill down everyone's spines. His presence in Antarctica was too abnormal.
"Let's pack our things and contact the tour group. We can't act alone anymore," the tall man agreed.
Zhi Qi shook her head. "Probably not. My grandpa said there are people in China who practice ancient martial arts. They have powers. Perhaps he cultivates ancient martial arts. If so, resisting the cold is normal."
"Are ancient martial arts that strong?" the man beside Yi He asked.
The quiet man spoke, "They are. Much stronger than this."
"Dongfang Wang, how do you know? Did you see this online too?" the man asked.
Dongfang Wang didn't reply, frowning at Ye Mo. Silence fell as they all stared at him.
Ye Mo moved swiftly, reaching Yi He's described location in half an hour. Even without his spirit sense, he saw the ditch's contents. Despite its depth, the sunlight illuminated at least tens of bodies. Yi He was right; it was a body ditch.
His spirit sense revealed experimentation on many bodies. Northern Sand had a base there, though likely not their headquarters. He still needed to find the main base.
As Ye Mo prepared to search for the base, he sensed he was being watched. He turned, catching a sniper rifle bullet as he simultaneously vanished. He found the sniper dead.
Ye Mo sneered. The submarine incident must have leaked. That cultivation home had cost him a night. These people were likely planning their retreat.
He thoroughly searched with his spirit sense, soon finding a snow-covered ditch. Sensing imminent danger beneath his feet, he instantly ascended.
RumbleโA massive explosion rocked the mountain as Ye Mo took off, as if the mountain itself had been overturned. His spirit sense showed testing platforms, laboratories, and machinery reduced to rubble.
Ye Mo's expression darkened. Their decisiveness was chilling; they'd even destroyed the mountain. He'd found Northern Sand's base, but it was as if he hadn't. He believed Luo Yue's future enemy wouldn't be the U.S., but Northern Sand, its hidden foe.
He couldn't understand why they prevented him from entering the laboratory before blowing it up with him. The only explanation: they feared him, fearing he'd take something and survive the explosion.
