Chapter 686: Xi Tang Wang

Sensing a bleak qi, Ye Mo immediately sent out his spirit sense. What he saw shocked him—two paper men floated over the wall, slowly approaching.

Ye Mo knew paper couldn't walk itself. His spirit sense revealed the paper men were controlled by two ghosts, which in turn were controlled by a human. The paper men seemed to contain some sort of formation, a low-level one Ye Mo had never encountered.

Dongfang Wang knew Ye Mo was with An Zhiqi. An Zhiqi had mentioned sleeping with Ye Mo that night. Enraged, Dongfang Wang likely intended to kill Ye Mo. The ghosts were undoubtedly his doing.

Ye Mo hadn't expected such methods from Dongfang Wang. Who was this man? Before the paper men reached the window, Ye Mo went outside to the yard.

The paper men paused, seemingly surprised their target wasn't afraid. They soon charged, their faces frightening.

Ye Mo sneered. Two ghosts dared attack him? He underestimated him greatly. Ye Mo stood unmoving, the faint moonlight highlighting the paper men, making them appear even more menacing.

As the paper men approached, Ye Mo sensed the bleak qi intensify. Normal people couldn't withstand it. Fear would make them vulnerable to possession.

But Ye Mo wasn't ordinary. He flung a fireball, instantly reducing one paper man to dust.

A sharp shriek followed. The remaining paper man, realizing Ye Mo's strength, fled.

Ye Mo followed, leaving the An family house. If Dongfang Wang was involved, following the paper man would lead him to Dongfang Wang.

An Zhiqi, worried and unable to sleep, heard the shriek and looked out. The yard was empty. Moments later, her grandfather appeared, prompting her to join him.

“Grandpa, what was that shriek? It sounded so bleak and eerie!” An Zhiqi asked, her fear lessened by her grandfather's presence.

An Zaishan peered into the yard. “Go inside and check on Mr. Ye.”

An Zhiqi quickly returned. “Grandpa, Brother Ye isn't in his room. I knocked, then pushed the door open—he's gone.”

An Zaishan nodded. “I asked Ning Ning. Apparently, he's no simple man, highly influential even in upper levels of Beijing. How do you know him?”

An Zhiqi recounted their Antarctic meeting.

“Okay, Qiqi, go to bed. Someone like Mr. Ye will be fine.” An Zaishan, however, couldn't sleep.

The paper man moved swiftly, like the wind.

Ye Mo followed; it didn't stray far. After about four kilometers, it entered a hotel room. Ye Mo followed.

Inside, a bony old man in his sixties, his face marked by dark qi, sat. Ye Mo knew the man was ordinary, uncultivated, but the bleak qi around him indicated long-term contact with ghosts.

Seeing only one paper man, the old man slammed the table. “Who dared kill my pet ghost! I swear, I'll make you my next pet ghost, or I'm an animal!”

Ye Mo appeared, cold. “I burned your first paper man, and I'll burn this one too. What will you do?”

Ye Mo incinerated the paper man, another shriek accompanying its demise.

The old man recoiled, shocked. “You… you can turn invisible and shoot fireballs?! Y-You—”

Ye Mo ignored him. “Dongfang Wang sent you, right? Tell me where he is.”

“Don't even think about it!” The old man knew he was outmatched. His ghosts were useless. How could he fight?

Betraying Dongfang Wang was impossible, so the old man attempted suicide.

Ye Mo noticed the old man’s eyes were amiss and touched his forehead. The old man’s eyes glazed over. Ye Mo sighed in relief; he'd almost let the old man succeed. How had Dongfang Wang made this man so loyal, willing to die for him?

“What is your name? Where are you from?” Ye Mo began his interrogation.

“Dongfang Chong. I'm from Xi Tang.”

Xi Tang again. Ye Mo's curiosity intensified.

“Where is Xi Tang? Who is Dongfang Wang to you?”

“Xi Tang is in Xi Tang. Dongfang Wang is the Young Master.”

“I need Xi Tang’s general location, and how Dongfang Wang is your Young Master.”

“Xi Tang is southwest. Dongfang Wang is the 19th Xi Tang King—” A flicker of struggle appeared in the old man’s eyes, unnoticed by the thoughtful Ye Mo.

“Where is Dongfang Wang now?”

Black blood flowed from the man's mouth. He had committed suicide, not by poison, but by a secret technique, the foul smell confirming it.

Ye Mo incinerated the body before the process completed.

What surprised Ye Mo most was the old man’s near escape from his mind control. His mental power must have been considerable. Ordinary yellow levels wouldn’t even struggle, yet this man had almost broken free.

The room contained a crate: charms, low-level artifacts, skulls, and books on raising ghosts. Ye Mo burned it all.

Returning to the An family house, Ye Mo detected An Zhiqi’s scent in his room.

The next morning, expecting questions, Ye Mo was surprised neither host mentioned the previous night's events. He remained silent.

With Dongfang Chong dead, Ye Mo assumed Dongfang Wang wouldn't target the An family again. He left for Luo Yue the next morning.
