Chapter 809: Wu God Chant

“Pang Wei reached True Great Heaven with your cultivation method?” Ye Mo was surprised. Pang Wei’s attainment of Great Heaven was inexplicable given his talent; only a profoundly powerful cultivation method could account for it, perhaps a high-level ancient martial art.

“True Great Heaven? What is that?” Cai Ji asked, confused.

Ye Mo, realizing he’d revealed too much, replied, “You’ll understand later.”

She explained, “His strength surpasses Sect Leader Wang not because of his talent, but because of our family’s cultivation method.”

“Where did your father obtain it? What’s its name?” Ye Mo’s interest was piqued. He believed that, in later stages, an ancient martial artist’s inner qi could rival, even surpass, cultivation essence. Li Cheng’s weaker qi, compared to Ye Mo’s cultivation essence, stemmed from the Three Birth Chant's superiority. Li Cheng likely cultivated a commonplace method, while the Three Birth Chant represented a pinnacle of cultivation.

The cultivation system’s item grading was clearer than in ancient martial arts: mortal, spirit, heaven, immortal, god, and holy, each with nine levels. Luo Yue Continent’s highest-level cultivation method was an incomplete Heaven Grade Level 2. Ye Mo’s current method was a respectable Mortal Grade Level 6. He estimated Meng Zhe’s Primordial Chaos Chant surpassed Immortal Grade, while the Three Birth Chant was at least a grade higher.

Cai Ji recounted, “My father and his friends went to Bu Zhou Mountain. The Great Wilderness Sutra mentioned a wilderness location northwest of the sea, featuring a mountain called Bu Zhou, possibly near the Pamir Plains, Mount Hermon, or Jia Lan Mountain. They searched for it. My father returned injured, having lost his friends but obtaining the Wu God Chant. As the eldest of three sisters, Mother sent me to buy food and medicine for him. Upon returning, I found Pang Wei, that fiend, had massacred my family. My parents and sisters… they were…” She choked back tears.

“Father, though injured, identified Pang Wei of Jiu Ming Academy as the perpetrator. I've spent twenty years at Jiu Ming Academy, yet haven't had a chance to avenge them.”

Ye Mo sympathized. Pang Wei was reprehensible. While Ye Mo wouldn’t object to acquiring an Immortal-level cultivation method, he despised Pang Wei’s brutality.

Ye Mo mused, “Even if I help you reach Great Heaven, you're no match for him. Do you know his current power level? Let me explain True Great Heaven.”

He explained the Heaven level. Cai Ji was incredulous. “Brother Ye, you mean Sect Leader Wang is only Heaven level, not a true Great Heaven master, while Pang Wei is True Great Heaven?”

Ye Mo nodded. He’d scanned Wang Yijian; he was still Heaven level tertiary, weaker than Taiyi's Qi Shen, let alone Len Quan and Ling Wushui.

Despair clouded Cai Ji’s face. Even reaching Heaven level offered little chance of ambushing Pang Wei. If he was truly Great Heaven, even Ye Mo wouldn’t be a match, and certainly had no reason to intervene.

Seeing her despair, Ye Mo sighed, “I can help you reach at least Heaven level.”

While this would have overjoyed her earlier, she now sighed and shook her head, defeated. She bowed and began to leave.

“I can help you kill Pang Wei,” Ye Mo interjected.

A flicker of hope ignited in Cai Ji’s eyes, then dimmed. Ye Mo might die trying. She wanted his help, yet feared harming him. This might be her only chance.

Ye Mo understood her conflict. He smiled, “I’m not risking my life. I believe I can kill him; I’ve slain those as strong as him before.”

“In the small world?” Cai Ji’s eyes brightened.

Ye Mo nodded. “Yes, but I have one request.”

Cai Ji knelt, “Brother Ye, if you kill Pang Wei, I’ll be your maid for life. Even if you sell me, I’ll be eternally grateful.”

Ye Mo waved his hand, and she stood. “I don’t want a maid. Afterward, we part ways. I only want to see the Wu God Chant.”

He would seek Pang Wei for the chant regardless; might as well inform Cai Ji.

Cai Ji was overjoyed. Ye Mo’s power inspired confidence, though she worried about Pang Wei’s ability to fly.

She immediately offered, “Though the Wu God Chant is our family’s, Father obtained it by chance. I don’t need it. Brother Ye can have it; I only want revenge.”

Ye Mo shook his head. “While I haven’t seen it, I suspect it’s a top-level cultivation method. But I have no intention of keeping it. I’ll only read it once; then you can have it back.”

“Now, I’ll help you reach Heaven level. Eat this pill.” He gave her a high-grade essence-enhancing pill.

Cai Ji understood his selfless act. He didn't need to help her, yet he did, driven by sympathy and abhorrence for Pang Wei.

“Thank you!” Cai Ji sniffed, hope rekindling for the first time since her family's loss.
