Chapter 88: Perhaps They Came to Give Us the Helicopter

Translator: Tim Editor: Tehrn

โ€œThe truth is,โ€ Wu Xueming began, attempting to reassure Yu Miaodan and engage Ye Mo, โ€œIโ€™m also from Metal River. Brother Metal Mountain has been kind and has high hopes for me, even wanting me to replace Huang. Huang, however, also desires Miaodan. Since she chose me, he wants me dead. But even if Huang killed me, Brother Metal Mountain wouldn't blame him. Gang life is dangerous; you have to accept the risks.โ€

He continued, his gaze drifting to the helicopter descending nearby, โ€œThinking back, I suspect Brother Metal Mountain said that in front of everyone while drunk to test me, to see if I could survive Huangโ€™s plot. If I died, it would mean I wasnโ€™t ready for that position, and I wouldnโ€™t blame him; I chose this path.โ€

Ye Mo sighed, unable to comprehend Wu Xuemingโ€™s willingness to be a pawn. He himself wouldnโ€™t tolerate manipulation by Metal Mountain, even for Huangโ€™s position. In Ye Moโ€™s opinion, Wu Xueming was ill-suited for gang life.

โ€œBrother Ye,โ€ Wu Xueming pleaded, โ€œIโ€™ll hold them off, prevent the helicopterโ€™s departure, while you take Miaodan. I won't let Huang get his hands on her!โ€

Yu Miaodan, grabbing Wu Xuemingโ€™s hand, retorted, โ€œNo, Xueming! I wonโ€™t leave you, even in death.โ€

Ye Mo shook his head. โ€œBrother Wu, it might be impossible anyway. Lookโ€ฆโ€

The moonlight illuminated five figures descending from the helicopter. One carried an assault rifle; the other four, submachine guns. All wore bulletproof helmets. Wu Xuemingโ€™s eyes dimmed; escape seemed impossible.

Ye Mo, however, wasn't concerned about the guns. Five men were no threat. His attention was on the helicopter. He envisioned escaping in it.

He turned to Wu Xueming, whose face was rapidly changing. โ€œBrother Wu, donโ€™t worry. Perhaps they came to give us the helicopter.โ€

Though puzzled by Ye Moโ€™s jest, Wu Xueming nodded. His pistol held only four bullets; saving two for suicide left him with only two against five menโ€”unlikely to be effective.

The five men swiftly surrounded the car.

Ye Mo calmly exited the car, his spirit sense focused on the men. Any attempt to fire would result in immediate death. He hadn't killed them yet because he needed the pilot alive.

Wu Xueming, sighing, followed, pulling Yu Miaodan with him.

โ€œBrother White Shark, thereโ€™s an extra person,โ€ one of the men said, clearly surprised.

โ€œTake Wu and Yu; deal with the extra person,โ€ White Shark, their leader, commanded.

Ye Mo interrupted, โ€œHold on. Which of you pilots the helicopter?โ€

White Shark, halting a man about to fire, replied, โ€œI do. Why?โ€

โ€œI want to save someoneโ€™s life,โ€ Ye Mo said, and with a flick of his wrist, four precisely aimed projectiles pierced the throats of the four gunmen. They posed no threat.

Gasps and groans followed as the men clutched their throats, unable to even raise their hands. They collapsed, dead.

White Shark stared, stunned, before Ye Mo snatched his AK-47.

โ€œYouโ€ฆโ€ Wu Xueming finally reacted, recognizing Ye Moโ€™s terrifying power. He realized Ye Mo was a Master, a legendary figure. โ€œWho are you? How dare you interfere with Metal Riverโ€™s business?โ€ He then realized the enormity of Ye Mo's actions: killing Metal River men.

Yu Miaodan was equally shocked.

Ye Mo turned to the still-dazed Wu Xueming. โ€œBrother Wu, get in the helicopter. Iโ€™ll handle this.โ€

Wu Xueming, understanding, ushered Yu Miaodan toward the helicopter, his heart pounding.

Ye Mo addressed White Shark. โ€œThrow those bodies in the car and set it on fire. Iโ€™ll count to ten. If itโ€™s not done, you join them.โ€

White Shark, comprehending the danger, swiftly tossed the bodies in, doused them with gasoline, and ignited the car.

โ€œPick up the guns and get on the chopper,โ€ Ye Mo ordered.

White Shark's relief was palpable, but Ye Moโ€™s next words chilled him. โ€œDo you think you could pull the trigger before I kill you a hundred times?โ€ White Shark retrieved the weapons, his earlier thoughts banished.

As they reached the helicopter, the car exploded. The distance from town muffled the sound.

Inside, Wu Xueming and Yu Miaodan stared at Ye Mo with newfound respect. To Ye Moโ€™s surprise, Wu Xueming was in the pilot's seat. โ€œBrother Wu, you can fly a helicopter?โ€

Wu Xueming nodded. โ€œIโ€™m more comfortable flying it myself. I was a helicopter pilot in the army.โ€

โ€œThen youโ€™re useless,โ€ Ye Mo declared, turning to White Shark. White Shark, sensing his impending demise, quickly pleaded, โ€œDonโ€™t kill me! I can still help.โ€

โ€œWeโ€™ll see. Get in,โ€ Ye Mo said, before instructing Wu Xueming, โ€œStart the helicopter.โ€

โ€œWhere to?โ€ Wu Xueming asked as they ascended.

Ye Mo pondered. โ€œIf Huang dies, does that mean youโ€™re safe?โ€

โ€œYes. Only Huang wants me dead, notโ€ฆโ€ Wu Xueming paused, his eyes widening. โ€œBrother Ye, you donโ€™t meanโ€ฆโ€

Ye Mo smiled. โ€œFate brought us together. Iโ€™ll help you kill Huang. And I need your help with something else.โ€ He planned to aid Wu Xueming, both out of genuine compassion and to benefit from Wu Xuemingโ€™s future control of Metal River.

โ€œMaster, I can help kill Huang!โ€ White Shark interjected.

Ye Moโ€™s cold gaze confirmed that White Sharkโ€™s usefulness had already been planned.
