Chapter 157
Olive was expelled from the research institute. Director Hudson, praising Pamela, said, "Pamela, rest. You saved Mrs. Robert. You're a genius. Olive, come with me!"
Everyone left the intensive care unit. Outside, they were swarmed by reporters eager for information. Director Hudson addressed the cameras: "Mrs. Robert is stable and out of danger."
A cheer erupted. The media's focus shifted back to Pamela's face. "Pamela, you're a world-saver! We adore you!"
Pamela basked in the flattery and applause, instantly becoming the center of attention. It was her first time using gold needles to seal acupuncture points. Remembering Olive's question and alarming remark, Pamela felt it was ridiculous.
"I'm a doctor; this is my job," she said proudly. "Olive, I hope you believe me now. I can teach you to seal acupuncture points with gold needles." Attention immediately turned to Olive.
"Director Hudson, Olive went too far! She lied about saving the old lady. Punish her severely, or everyone will follow suit!" one person exclaimed. "If the institute becomes a battleground, who will bear the responsibility?"
"That's right!" another chimed in. "We don't care how Olive got into the Ivory Council, but expel her! She doesn't deserve to be here!"
Pamela, nervous but thrilled, couldn't wait for Olive's dismissal. She blamed Olive for making a fool of herself. The entire internet was demanding Olive's expulsion.
"Director Hudson," Pamela pleaded hypocritically, "it's okay if you don't send Olive away. She's my sister. Please give her another chance. She'll change."
Hudson's expression was indifferent. Since Olive's arrival, the prestigious Ivory Council had become an internet sensation. This latest incident solidified his decision to dismiss her, regardless of her admission by the dean.
"Olive," Hudson declared, "to quell public anger, you're expelled. Leave the Ivory Council now. We can't tolerate your disruptive behavior!"
Olive was kicked out of the research institute. Hudson dismissed her from the Ivory Council!
Olive returned to the pharmacy to pack. Outside, a crowd had gathered. Her expulsion was trending online.
Divine, holding Olive's hand, was close to tears. "Olive, what happened? I'll talk to Director Hudson; he'll reconsider!"
Olive patted Divine's shoulder, blinking mysteriously. "Divine, don't worry. I'll be back soon."
"Really? Are you lying?" Divine doubted her. "Why did you claim to save the old lady? Everyone's laughing at you!" Divine didn't believe Olive had saved the woman. Olive met Divine's gaze. "Divine, look into my eyes. I saved her. Believe me."
Divine was speechless. Olive nodded, grabbed her suitcase, and left. Before leaving, she winked playfully at Divine. "Divine, don't miss me too much. I'll be back soon!"
The crowd outside was insane. They were there to see Olive leave. Unfazed, Olive walked indifferently, ignoring them.
Pamela smiled. "Olive, I'm here to see you off."
Olive muttered, "Thank you."
"Olive," Pamela said, dropping her pretense, "you shouldn't have come to the research institute, or returned to LA. Isn't it shameful to go back to where you came from?"
Olive tightened her grip on her suitcase. "Pamela Hart, do you really think you've won? Enjoy it while it lasts." Then she left.
Pamela clenched her fists. She hadn't expected the expelled Olive to still threaten her. Why should she be afraid? She was a talented doctor!
Olive's phone beeped. A message from North: "Olive, you're amazing! The internet's on fire. Social media should hire you; you've met their yearly target audience. LA has never been so lively!"
"Is this an exaggeration?" Olive replied.
"Girl, check it out! Three of the top ten trending topics are about you. I suspect you're paying for publicity."
Olive hadn't had time to check the internet. She changed the subject. "North, I know why Pamela's skills improved so rapidly. She must have my mother's medical book."
"Then get it! How could Aunt leave her book for that slut!"
Olive knew she needed to speak to Patrick first. North's next message arrived: "I saw Patrick and his daughter. Want to come over?"
"Where are you?"
"At the hotel. I'm about to livestream to sell my goods."
Olive was confused. North, a top actress, was selective about endorsements, having rejected five major magazines in two years.
"North, why livestream?"
North understood. "That lunatic, Raven, canceled all my work!"
Olive's mother's medical book. Olive's eyes widened. She sent a voice note: "Why did Raven cancel your schedule?"
North replied with a voice message: "He got angry because I didn't go to his room on his birthday. I'll meet him later."
Olive frowned. "North, what does Raven want? Why does he take his anger out on you? Didn't he already humiliate you on your eighteenth birthday? Why is he still bothering you?"
Olive was angry. "I think Raven is mentally unstable. He lured you into his trap and humiliated you. He's dangerous. If you keep following his rules, you'll be ruined."
North knew Raven hated her. She'd overheard his conversation with his mother. She replied calmly, "I understand. Just come over, okay?"
Olive went to the hotel to see North and also to meet Patrick and Pamela about her mother's book. She quickly found Patrick drinking with some executives.
One executive saw Olive and pointed her out to Patrick. "Mr. Hart, is that your second daughter?"
Patrick's smile vanished. He was unhappy to see Olive. "Go ahead, guys. I'll be back."
He approached Olive. "Olive, why are you here?"
Olive looked at him. "Mr. Hart, please return what my mother left me."
Patrick panicked. How did Olive know about the book? He'd given Pamela the first volume. He couldn't give it to Olive.
"Olive, what are you talking about? I don't understand!" Patrick feigned ignorance.
"Mr. Hart, no pretense. I know the truth. Pamela told me she got her skills from my mother's book!"
Patrick inwardly cursed Pamela. How could she be so stupid?
"Olive, I gave Pamela the book, but she lost it!"
Olive withdrew her hand. Her mother had left her a book! And it was with Pamela! Olive wasn't angry or happy. She nodded. "It's fine, Mr. Hart. I'll leave."
Patrick doubted she was leaving. "Olive, are you really leaving?"
Olive chuckled. "Yes, but I believe you'll bring my mother's book to me soon!"
Olive found North in the presidential suite. North tossed her a yogurt. "How did it go?"
Olive took a sip. "My mom left me a book, but Patrick gave it to Pamela."
"That's troublesome. They won't easily return it," North worried.
Olive blinked. "I have a way to get it back." North wasn't worried; she knew Olive could get anything she wanted.
