Chapter 78: Only Love
Although everyone feared Hudson Donald, his work efficiency was admirable. No one anticipated a surprise; memorizing twelve thousand names in three days seemed impossible. Olive was expected to fail.
Hudson asked the cabinet number containing echinacea. The students watched quietly, anticipating Olive's embarrassment.
Olive calmly stated, "Echinacea, the herbal medicinal substance, is in cabinet number 63."
Divine quickly opened cabinet 63, closed her eyes, and prayed. She jumped up, exclaiming, "Director Hudson, echinacea is in cabinet 63!"
Everyone gasped. Olive had answered correctly. Hudson, slightly surprised, immediately asked, "What's in cabinet number 304?"
Olive replied politely, "Cabinet 304 contains valerian."
Intrigued researchers rushed to check. "Director Hudson, it's valerian. Olive is right again!" they chorused.
Awe filled the room. Hudson asked, "Which cabinets contain sage, calendula, and oregano?"
Olive answered, "Sage is in cabinet 74, calendula in cabinet 9009, and oregano in cabinet 750."
The students verified her answers; a cheer erupted, "Olive's right! Olive, you're amazing!"
The students cheered. Pamela clenched her fists and glared at Greg. He stepped forward, pushing Divine away. "Divine, you and Olive are friends. Are you helping her cheat?"
Hudson asked, "What's in cabinets 673, 444, and 6901?"
Olive smiled at Greg, raised her chin, and said, "Cabinets 673, 444, and 6901 contain goldenseal, basil, and potassium."
Greg opened 673 (goldenseal) and 444 (basil), then felt dizzy. He had to open the third cabinet. Upon opening cabinet 6901, the potassium spilled, causing him to sneeze and collapse.
Olive looked at Greg coldly. "Team Leader Greg, do you still suspect collusion? In cabinet 7502 above you is sodium; in cabinet 30 southeast of the director is magnesium; and in cabinet 99 is chromium."
Greg, hoping for a mistake, checked again. Olive was correct.
Everyone stared, speechless. Unbelievably, Olive had memorized twelve thousand medicinal substances in three days. She had passed Hudson's test.
"Director Hudson, do you want to test me further? I've memorized these materials. Ask more if you're unsatisfied," Olive said.
Hudson, admiring her impossible feat, pondered, "This girl, chosen by the deanis she truly intelligent?" His search of Olive's medical history yielded only that she recently arrived from the suburbs and was a high school graduate.
Hudson said, "Olive, congratulations. You've passed. You can intern at the Ivory Council."
Divine hugged Olive, ecstatic. "Wow! My bet doubled! You disappointed everyone who bet against you!"
A student exclaimed, "Olive is incredibly smart! She set a record!" Another added, "Pamela was our treasure, but Olive is beautiful too."
Prejudices vanished, replaced by admiration. Pamela's anger was evident.
Hudson cautioned, "Olive, don't be arrogant. You lack experience; learn from scratch. Make no mistakes, or you'll leave the Ivory Council."
Olive smiled, "I understand, Director Hudson. Thank you, sir."
After Hudson left, a student said, "Olive, welcome as our junior colleague."
Olive smiled playfully, "I still have much to learn."
Pamela, ignored, watched everyone gather around Olive, gnashing her teeth.
Later, Pamela approached, "Olive, congratulations. I always believed in you."
Olive chuckled, "Pamela, aren't you tired? You don't need to act."
Pamela saw the necklace around Olive's neck—an Onlylove necklace, a highly valued brand. Her heart skipped a beat.
