Everyone in the car was silent.
"I don't want to leave you here alone, Natalia," Eric said.
"Eric, I'm not a child," I assured him.
"There are so many Alphas here."
"I heard everyone is leaving at noon. You should trust me. I can defend myself."
"I trust you."
He got out of the car, closing the door behind him. Approaching the window, he murmured, "Be careful. Come back to our pack soon."
I nodded and said, "I will."
I watched him check out of the hotel and call a cab to the airport.
Leaning against the seat, I replied to Damia, "Of course not. I'll be fine. Moreover, you shouldn't take it upon yourself. I also want some fresh air."
Damia bit her lip and nodded quietly.
I told the driver, "Start the car."
The driver started the car and drove toward the sights. We spent the day visiting several tourist areas near the forest. Our destination was the Pack Museum, where I saw the pack's history engraved in stone.
The Storm Forest Pack was ancient, once living in the forest in wolf form. However, due to the revolution of time
Damia muttered, "Wow," at something she saw.
"Let's go there, boss," she said, pointing to a beautiful book on a golden stand.
We examined the book. Damia opened it with enthusiasm.
"Be careful," I cautioned as she turned the first page.
She slowed down, carefully turning the pages. I saw many stories of wolves. One page caught my attention.
"Wait a minute," I said, stopping Damia.
She opened the page and began to read.
"The Alphas, who have black fur, are the most powerful wolves. There were two different kinds of black wolves that the members of this pack feared."
Turning to me, Damia said, "I've never seen black wolves. Boss, what color is our Alpha's wolf?"
"Grey," I replied, staring at the book. It reminded me of a pair of red eyes. I'd never seen his wolf form.
I dismissed the thought and continued exploring the museum. Damia was delighted and went shopping for her family afterward. She was excited all day. I was pleased. I also bought clothes for my children. Damia didn't know about my twins, so she asked several times who they were for. I told her
I wanted to tell her about Noah and Aria, but I couldn't reveal that their father was Adrian. It was too risky.
After dinner at a fascinating tourist restaurant, Damia and I headed back to the hotel.
As the car passed through the forest, I looked out the window at the quickly passing landscape. My attention was drawn to the bright moon. I tilted my head and closed my eyes, enjoying the moonlight through the open window.
Suddenly, the car stopped.
We jolted. "What happened?" I asked the driver.
"Miss, let me check," he replied, getting out.
Damia said, "Boss, I should go see."
"No, stay here. I'll check."
Damia was young and an Omega; I couldn't risk her life. I got out of the car.
The driver said, "I called a mechanic. He'll be here in a few minutes."
I nodded and waited, peering into the forest. Only the car's headlights illuminated the area; the rest was dark. The forest was dense, blocking the moonlight.
"There he is," the driver said. I saw a man on a bicycle approaching, carrying a toolbox.
I paid him to work quickly. While he repaired the car, I again noticed something dark moving rapidly in the woods. I blinked, but it was gone.
I checked on Damia. "I'll be back in a few minutes. Don't come out, okay?"
"Boss, I want to come with you."
"No. The driver is Alpha Sheth's trusted man. We can trust him. I'll be back in a minute."
She nodded. I turned and walked toward the forest.
I looked both ways before entering. I searched for what I'd seen, but after five minutes, I couldn't find it.
My phone vibrated. Damia had texted: "Boss, where are you? The driver said we can leave now."
Because Damia was waiting, I turned to leave the forest, but I was surprised. I was lost. I tried to use my phone's map, but my network connection was failing. I tried to find my way but lost connection completely.
"Shit! I'm lost," I muttered.
I didn't know how to get back to my pack. I walked, unsure of my direction.
I heard a growl. My eyes widened. I couldn't help but move toward the sound. My body moved involuntarily, even though I wanted to run.
My steps stopped at a scent that challenged my sanity. My brows lifted in shock.
A large black wolf looked at the moon. The area was open, so the moon was visible. The wolf howled, and my body trembled. I'd never seen this wolf before; its scent was overwhelming.
I took a step back as it turned its head, its intense red eyes meeting mine.
