Listen to this chapter:

“Feelings for him?” Natalia whispered to herself. Did she still have feelings for him? The answer was clear.

Memories flooded back, bringing tears to her eyes.

FLASHBACK

“Natalia, do you still love that man?” Jade Hansley, Luna of the Blue Blood Pack, asked.

Eight months had passed since Natalia's return. Jade had been observing her daughter's depression and pallor. When they’d been reunited with their daughter eight months prior—though her name was Jessica, she preferred Natalia—Alpha Martin and Jade had been overjoyed. They lavished her with the life she’d missed, hoping for a smile.

Natalia, however, couldn't forget her past. Every night, she cried alone in her room, though not without notice.

“No, Mom,” Natalia replied softly.

Standing by her bedroom window, watching two birds in their nest, she was captivated. Jade turned her around, taking her hand.

“Stop thinking about him. He doesn’t deserve you.”

Natalia offered a sad smile. “No, Mom. Maybe I wasn’t meant for him after all.”

Jade was surprised. Cupping Natalia’s cheeks, she tried to reassure her: “Don’t feel that way. You’re not alone. Your loved ones are here, and your babies will be soon.”

Natalia touched her belly, sighing with relief. Only two weeks remained until she would no longer be alone. She hugged her mother, who always tried to encourage her. After their talk, her mother left.

Natalia returned to the window. In those months, she hadn't heard from Adrian. If he truly cared, he would have searched for her. How can you be so cruel, Adrian? she thought, tears rolling down her cheeks.

When she left the Crystal Blood Pack, she’d believed she could survive without him, that she didn't need anyone. But she couldn't forget him. She grieved for him daily. Her family attributed her pain to her past, unaware of the daily agony of her pregnancy. The pack doctor had warned her the pain could be life-threatening.

But Natalia loved her unborn children, silently enduring her suffering. She made the doctor promise secrecy.

Late in the afternoon, Natalia walked down the corridor, wondering when the two weeks would end. She heard her brother Jason’s angry voice from his nearby bedroom. Pausing, she tried to eavesdrop.

“How dare he?” Jason said angrily.

“Calm down, Jason,” Beta Eric, Jason’s best friend, said.

Natalia couldn’t understand them. Approaching the slightly open door, she heard:

“That man should die. He wronged my sister. How dare he live such a happy life?”

Natalia knew immediately who he meant.

“Jason, is this fair to everyone?” Beta Eric asked.

“Fair? My sister grieves for that bastard while he lives happily with his mistress!”

Natalia’s heart ached. He’s with Lynda? Is he going to marry her? Does his family accept them? Pain shot through her, and she retreated.

“Why am I thinking about him? Isn't this what I wanted? I wanted to leave him. He said he didn't love me. Then why do I care? Why?” she mumbled, returning to her room.

Tears streamed down her face as memories of Adrian flooded back. Suddenly, a sharp pain stabbed her stomach.

“Aahh!”

Touching her belly, she felt a searing sensation in her lower abdomen—a familiar pain, but this was different. Her knees trembled; she lost her balance and collapsed. She cried out as she saw blood.

“MOM!”

She screamed, terrified of losing her children. Her mother and maids rushed in, horrified to find her bleeding on the floor. They contacted Alpha Martin and Jason via mind link. Natalia was quickly taken to the pack hospital.

“It’s critical. Mother or children?” the nurses asked the doctor.

Before the doctor could consult Natalia’s family, she weakly requested, “Please, save my children.”

The operation was long. Her family waited outside, praying. When they heard babies crying, their fear intensified. They thought they'd lost her.

The doctor emerged, followed by two nurses carrying infants.

“No, no. My daughter can’t die,” Jade cried, believing only one could survive.

“Doctor, couldn’t you save my daughter? Where is she?” Alpha Martin asked.

The doctor smiled. “Don’t worry, your daughter is a blessing from the Moon Goddess. She came back from the brink of death!”
