Adrian’s POV

I sat brooding amidst the loud bar music and colorful mist. "How dare she prepare the divorce papers?" I muttered, staring at my drink.

Natalia was not only dull but wicked. I vividly recalled the events leading up to our marriage. On my twenty-first birthday, she drugged me. I woke up next to her in a hotel bed. It had to be Natalia.

I hated her from that day forward, especially after my father forced me to marry her. She must have begged him; as the daughter of a gamma, she had no chance of becoming the pack's luna otherwise. He didn't hesitate to sacrifice his son's life—worse, he blackmailed me about my future position as alpha to force the marriage.

To think she'd set me up, intending to sleep with me on my twenty-first birthday. At such a young age, she'd formulated a plot to trap me.

Although we slept together, I never felt any bond with Natalia, and I never marked her. Oddly, my wolf surprisingly displayed affection for her, despite her lack of a wolf.

Fortunately, fate led me to Lynda, a beautiful and sexy woman. Later, I learned she was the little girl who'd saved me as a child, and she was now working to save me again. She'd heard about the divorce.

I felt her hand on my lap and turned. She pressed against me, saying, "Don't worry. That woman doesn't deserve you. Be with me. I'll always be by your side." She pulled back slightly.

I took her hand and followed her through the crowd to a private room. Her alluring figure tempted me, and I pushed her onto a couch, intending to make love to her. But my wolf frantically stopped me. "If you don't want Lynda because she's not our mate, then why that wolfless woman?" I angrily demanded.

He ignored my question, saying, "I will take control if you insist."

I couldn't risk that, so I sighed and got off Lynda.

"What's wrong?" she asked, frowning.

"You're a pure woman," I said, patting her hand. "I don't want to ruin you. Wait for the right time."

It was an excuse, but what else could I say?

Later, I left the bar, frustrated by my father and my wolf. During the ride home, my driver kept glancing at me. I was furious with Natalia and, upon arriving home, I stormed out of the car and toward her.

"Where are you going?" I demanded, eyeing her suitcase.

"I told you."

"Told me what?" I roared.

She shuddered. So feeble. If my human voice affected her so much, what would my alpha voice do?

"I'm leaving your house and your pack," she said.

I snorted. Who was she kidding? She couldn't leave without permission from my father and mother, the alpha and luna.

She averted her gaze.

"Coward. You have nowhere to go. Who would shelter the divorced wife of a future alpha? No one! You're still a member of this pack. Cross the boundary, and you'll be killed by wolves."

She cried false tears. I scoffed and brushed past her, intending to leave her outside. But as I reached the door, her sobbing stopped. Curious, I turned…
